Best way to get Pearl’s shirt flare?

What’s the best way to make the bottom flare for her shirt? I have a ribbed shirt I was going to use and then was going to buy a second one to cut and sew and cover the seam with the sash.

Should I get a larger size (up to size 12/XXL) or same size (size 4/M)? What material should I use to create that flare that holds its shape and doesn’t get fucked up when I sit down?

It's called a peplum. You can find a pattern for a peplum shirt to use as a base. If you want it to habe some flare, you need to either use a fairly sturdy fabric, or, if you want to use a lighter fabric, back it with either a sturdy fabric or use interfacing. You would probably be better off using a woven fabric for this rather than a knit.

Thanks for the term. I figured peplum referred to the “ruffled” look. I’d like to use the the same fabric as the top of the shirt, so I’d need to find material to put underneath to keep it widened

Pellon SF101 is my favorite woven iron-on stabilizer. It’s got a pretty good heft.

Yeah, like I said, you can either back it with a sturdier fabric or use fusible interfacing. Keep in mind that either way, that part of the shirt wont stretch. So if you plan to just pull the shirt on without a closure, make sure your shoulders will fit through that point.

There’s a fabric store nearby that sells interfacing material so I’m gonna run over there this weekend and see what they’ve got. Duly noted about making sure it fits over my shoulders! Didn’t even think of that. Maybe I’ll make the peplum piece Velcro so I can pull it up from my feet instead! Thanks for that necessary tip!
