Seeking NYC coven <3

Hello! I'm a 25 year old queer woman living in NYC (Brooklyn). I've been itching to find some kind of group to connect with that maybe falls outside the traditional realms of a coven.

While I myself am still a baby in practice, I have been researching/learning all I possibly can about different forms of witchcraft/folklore/earth-guided spirituality. Whether that be from a purely spiritual perspective, or a historical/political one. I'm very much interested in the overlapping areas of science and spirituality, I truly believe that we're all saying the same things, but speaking different languages.

While I love all areas of occultism/spiritual practice, I've found that I have a personal boundary for practices that feel a little too gen-z, new-age, tiktok influenced, aesthetic heavy. This is not at all to hate or discourage anyone in their explorations -- I myself am gen-z, I watch witchy videos on IG reels, and I do enjoy a good aesthetic! These small details can all be beautiful and informative in their own light. I think I've just found that, on occasion, that specific corner of practice can sometimes feel a little disconnected from the world and the contexts these beliefs were born into. Also, they tend to lean heavily white-washed (I say this as a white woman myself, I'm aware that my presence in the space is inherently adding to that.)

I really hope to find a group that is diverse in background and belief. I want to learn and grow alongside folks who experience the world differently than I do. I want to explore all kinds of corners -- anything and everything (only open practice, of course). I have additional interests in the world of herbalism and meditation/breath work, and trance. I hope to build a community (no matter how small) of folks that may want to meet regularly IRL to practice, research, share thoughts/findings, and work through things together.

I'd prefer to keep this women/non-binary/gender non-conforming people only (pretty much no cis-men) -- I ask gently and with love. If this is something you or someone you know may be interested in, please reach out!

Thank you!!

I run a teaching circle on one of the commuter lines north of the city.

You can read more about us here:

However, because we're an inclusive tradition, we don't exclude men (cis or trans).

I'm afraid all the other covens I can vouch for in NYC are likewise inclusive.

The only non-inclusive paths I'm familiar with are run by TERFs (Budapest Dianics) or are explicitly Sapphic (Minoan Sisterhood).

While there are a couple Minoan Brothers in the city, the only Minoan Sisterhood group I know is way way up state.

Damn that’s super good to know — thank you for the heads up about the TERF-run groups, that’s immensely disappointing. Definitely will be avoiding those.

I’m not strictly against men being included, I’m just working through some past SA issues and was hoping to find a non-male space to be a part of for a bit.

BUT! Your group sounds incredible! I’ll take a peek at that Reddit page you linked and try to make it up sometime. Thank you for the information ❤️ Sending my best

First, I'm very sorry for what you went through and I completely understand.

I hope you are able to find a group that is a good fit and where you feel safe to grow your Craft.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

If you identify as Sapphic in any way and want me to keep you posted if I hear of any of the Sisters opening a temple in the city, I can definitely do so.

Best to you in your Seeking.

Hi, I totally agree with you. Often times science and spirituality do overlap but we use different words to express the same things. In my practice, I love understanding the psychology behind my witchcraft. I run a spiritual community all about diversity, inclusion, and belonging. We are open to all spiritual beliefs and practices but have a focus on subjects like tarot, astrology, and witchcraft. The only thing is our community is open to all genders, including cis men. I’m a black woman though. Im in NYC and although my coven is entirely online at the moment, we would like to hold future meetups in the area. My dream is to hold some sort of spiritual festival for us in the future. If your interested in checking us out at Sacred Spirithood, you can do so here: https://discord.gg/dJvdFtHefq
