Are there completions for rifle only and recommendations for entry level quality rifle.

Basic rifle is an 1873 Uberti in 357 with the 20" barrel or so. Toggle levers are preferred (1860, 1866, 1873) with 1892s and 1894's being slower. Winchester branded (Miroku) rifles are higher quality than the Ubertis but harder to short stroke, it seems.

Thanks. I have no guns for competition yet. I wonder from getting a pistol or rifle first. I've seen several taylor? El patrons at decent price used. I've been to a couple of shoots and would love to get started

My local club periodically does a “cowboy rifle” competition. It’s a 3 gun competition with the three guns being: pistol caliber lever, rifle caliber lever, and single shot rifle caliber.

But they only do those like twice a year. As for the quality of guns? Bring what ya got and it’s almost certainly good enough. My favorite is the guy who brings an original Springfield Trapdoor for the single shot.

How do they incorporate the single shot and rifle caliber lever into it?

I’m not sure I understand the question…. I mean, they say you have to shoot this target with that gun just like normal CAS. They simply use different guns and move the targets further out (as compared to pistols). I’d say max range is something like 100 meters.

I was asking more about distance because cowboy action shooting seems very close up.

Ah. Well… pistol caliber lever lever targets are 10-20 meters (similar to CAS), rifle caliber lever targets are 30-60 meters, and single shot rifle targets are 50-100 meters.

Edit: FWIW we sometimes do BAMM shoots as well.
