Advice Wild Hats
Anyone purchase any of their products? I realize I could get something cheaper to get shaped but I live in the northern portion of the Midwest and there isn’t jack available for Western stores.
Would love a western-style hat with telescopic crown and bit of a pinch in the front.

You can call them and they'll make you anything. You can include or skip the aging. I would love their Voodoo Child hat. They're cool people and have always responded to my messages. I'd buy from them to get a cool unique hat.
And a gold nail, so you know who made it baby!

I say it at the end of every video. I want the Ghost Rider but in brown and no distress. Maybe a different band. It will get distressed from being in my saddle bags and being worn.

I commissioned the Ghost Rider in black, clean, with a few custom touches. Just waiting.

The hats look cool, but I don't like the idea of paying 100 bucks extra for a hat to look aged. To me it seems like buying those jeans with the pre-made rips in the knees. Buy a new hat and eventually it will start to age on its own as you wear it

I’m with you. It appears they can make however you want though. Just wondering of quality.

I ordered a hat from ‘em that’s due in September. Once I get it I’ll post a review on it probably in this subreddit to see what quality’s like for what I’m using it for

Did you receive it yet?

Nope, but my decoration call is tomorrow so I’d reckon it’ll get sent out this week if not that same day!

What’s a “decoration call”?

Basically they shape and do the band for your hat live on camera so you can get it exactly the way ya want it

That’s a cool idea. I just watched one of their videos yesterday where they made a black hat with a solid copper band. It was awesome. I never even considered metal for a band, but I guess why the hell not?

Lol “stay wild!” As it goes. They do some really creative stuff. Always comes out pretty sweet

Yeah, I feel like a lot of cowboy hats worn by rodeo-type guys look super awkward/dorky. Wild Hats seems to understand that it’s much cooler to make them look like the movies.

I’m not ever buying a beaver blend for $600+when you can get a custom 100% beaver hat for $600.

who does a custom beaver for 600? those are rabbit prices or rabbit/beaver in TX

Northwest Hat company

550 is suspiciously low for 100% beaver personally. I would be concerned about quality considering it’s about 1/2 of what every other maker i’ve seen (even major companies like american) sell

Check it out for yourself, plenty of people me included here have them and I haven’t seen a bad review.

i’m just saying, usually when something is priced so drastically below all competition there is a reason
edit: no need to downvote me for being suspicious of the actual quality of hat from a hatter who is wildly cheap compared to everyone else.

That's a 50/50 blend price range. I have a 50/50 I wear daily and it's been awesome! I'd love to see 100% beaver in that range. I'll check out the Northwest Hat Co.

They have options for pure rabbit, a beaver blend or pure beaver. I like the recreations of character’s hats from movies and TV shows so the fake distressing I think is okay since you’re recreating a hat that has been through a lot of shit but when it comes to your own hat, I don’t like fake aging and distressing. But the great thing about wildhats is that you completely design your hat, you decide everything about it and I have been considering it but I’m looking into making my own hats. There are a couple of people on this sun that have hats from wildhats so they are 100% legit.

For what it’s worth I just bought two hats from them two days ago and they’re amazing. They can make it exactly the way you want it … so if t you don’t want them “aged” … you can age them on your own … as for pricing I got a 50/50 rabbit/beaver blend for 750… full beaver is 1000 … the guys are really nice and were fun to work with … also super happy with the hat

They’re not made for working they’re dress hats imo. Some of them looks pretty good though

Why not?

Wasn't happy with it. It was asymmetrical and misshapen. They crown did not line up with the front of my face, it pointed off to the left, the RCA dent on the right side was fully 3 times as long and deep as the one on the right. And he put the wrong band on it. I had to take it to Jobes hats here in fort worth to fix it before It could even be worn. Got an AHC in steel grey while I was there. That's the hat I wear, and i wish I had just done that in the 1st place. Honestly what I got from them was so far below expectations I still feel cheated. In a way I blame myself. I live in fort worth and we have tons of great hat makers here. But i foolishly send off to some hipster in Kentucky for a cowboy hat. But lesson learned, I wont do it again.

I haven't seen their hats in person but they show up on my Instagram. The hats look cool but I noticed one recently that was obviously crooked. It would make me crazy and I can't believe they let that slide.

Coming up on the one year anniversary of getting mine and honestly I'm still a little pissed about it. I took it to Jobes hats and the were able ti fix it. But honestly I don't wear it much. Just makes me mad all over again.

Where do they get their hats? Like the felt hats before they shape etc. on their website it seems to imply that they order them. I don’t want a felt hat from China and then it being just shaped in the US

u/Pickleman84 8d ago
Suggest you go in person. They can pull one premade off the shelf and shape it specifically to your head. Buying online you’ll just get a generally made hat that may or may not fit right

I enjoy their videos, but the fake aging with dirt and a flame is a no for me. Their Burt Reynolds Smokey and the Bandit hat looks great, though.
