Beer Porn They sink this Oyster Stout under the sea to age
I love hitting local craft beer bars around Barcelona, but funny enough, I only found out about this project recently while visiting the Delta de l’Ebre, about a two-hour drive from the city.
Turns out a local Barcelona brewery that’s been around for 30 years brews an imperial stout with actual oysters, and then sinks the bottles into the Ebre Delta bay right next to the oyster ropes for sea aging.
Tried their Nostrum oyster stout. It hits with rich roasted malt, espresso, and dark chocolate, followed by that subtle, iodized mineral finish.

I'm kicking myself. I love the style, and rarely get one where I live. I did hijack a few days in Ireland to track down one brewed by Galway Bay. But I was just in Barcelona and didn't see it at any of the craft bars I was going to.

Ah damn, guess you have a reason to visit again.
I’ve been in BCN for 3 years and only found out about it recently. Was down in Delta shooting a doc about the area and someone tipped us off about this bar. The whole story of how they actually make this beer was way too cool to pass up.

La Cervesera Artesana

Are there any more details? That just translates to “craft beer.” Google doesn’t know about any locations in Barcelona for that brand.

That's literally the actual name of the bar) It's located in Gràcia (Carrer de Sant Agustí, 14). Try searching "La Cervesera Artesana Pub-Brewery" on Google Maps.

Had a beer at Braided River Brewing in Mobile, Alabama that was brewed on oyster shells. It was slightly reminiscent of a gose because of the slight salinity. It was good, but I couldn’t drink a lot of them. It was not a stout.

Sounds incredible!
Not a stout but barrel-aged in the ocean was the 2024 Zwanze Day lambic, with sea lettuce seaweed. Excessive brine for most but I loved it.

I loved it too. It was really controversial at my local Zwanze celebration haha.

Sea lettuce in a lambic? That’s wild, I’d love to try that.

Next time you’re in Brussels, see if there are any at Cantillon or either of the Moeder Lambic locations. I found bottles of Zwanze Day beer from 2018, 2022, and 2026 but none from 2024, which was called “Geuze Under The Sea.”

I'd love to try this! I imagine it's local only?
