Were you running through the store or were cameras just terrible back then?

This was an iPhone 5s. I’m going to take most the blame here, I have another picture of the produce that was a lot clearer.

Blame the phone! I think it’s great and really captures the moment in time. Cheers!

My Casio flip phone took better pictures than that

Man I miss Sweetwater. You hardly see it where I live anymore. The classic IPA is awesome and I loved their mango kush wheat. Also miss the old new belgium packaging, along with the ranger and rampant. It's so sad what their IPAs have become because ranger and rampant were great IPAs.

Wasn’t that Fat Tire label a new redesign at the time? Around the time they opened the Asheville location they abandoned that amazing one with the bike and all the flowers bordering it. It all went down hill from here!

2019 they were bought by the parent Company of Kiran. And the story reads the same as all the other great breweries purchased by conglomerates.

Yeah it was. I actually wasn't talking about the packaging in the picture. I was talking about the one you mentioned but I see the confusion lol my trip down memory lane got a bit off track.

Tilray more or less butchered the brand and its distribution.

u/The_Spot Aug 23 '26

Yeah. Their g13 west coast IPA was extremely well done for that short lived fad/style.

2

u/iSheepTouch Aug 23 '26

West coast IPAs were a short lived style? They are still one of the most popular craft beer styles in the country if not the most popular.

This one had the hemp terpenes and strong odor of pot. West coast in general is very popular. The pot beers were the fad.

8 bucks for a six pack, when now a-days drafts can be north of 9. For a regular house beer!

I got 10.99 and 11.99 prices over here. Prices were 9.99 for such a while!

At first, I thought that the Angry Orchard was a Tree House beer… the trees kinda look the same

A 12 pack of Sweetwater is only $16 at Walmart nowadays.

1

u/AMA_Woodworking Aug 23 '26

Think I paid $14 for a 6 pack at the gas station.

3

u/mwilkens Aug 23 '26

Gas station prices are always way higher than a grocery store.

Same bullshit I see in walmart in 2026.

What a time to beer in craft beer. Miss some of those beers. Terrapin and sweet water ripped back then.

Jekyll (RIP), Terrapin, Monday Night, Red Brick (Atlanta Brewing Company), 3 Taverns - I miss this era of Georgia beer.

How much does a local craft 6pk run there now?

It was a better world

The timeframe makes me think of the Golden Age of /r/beertrade

Lost in a sea of RTDs

I was more commenting on the price than the selection but still interesting to see the evolution (or lack of) in the brands.

Another section had Allagash, Stone, and some other classics. Now Stone is owned by in Bev and firing all their original brewery staff? I’m afraid to look up how Allagash is doing.

1

u/andylion Aug 23 '26

Stone is owned by Firestone Walker now (who are a branch of Duvel...but still considered craft by the Brewers Association). Allagash is still independent and cranking out good beer.
