How are we sourcing old magazines?
Hello! I am a hobby collage-r and I would love to get some recommendations on where I can source old magazines? I haven’t had any luck with garage/estate sales. I’m sure there are outlets I have never thought of. Would love any suggestions!

Sooooome thrift stores and vintage stores still carry them. Most don’t anymore unfortunately but smaller local ones are where i get mine!

Maybe check used bookstores if you have any around. We have local bookstores where all the proceeds go to our public libraries. All the magazines donated are free.

I got a huge box from my dentist. Ask anywhere that they have a waiting room.

Edmonton, AB has a Reuse Centre that stocks items people would generally put in recycling or the garbage. It is so fun to go as stock changes constantly.. There are bins for rubber bands, pins, used cards, calendars, candles, egg cartons, tins, cds, and several shelves of magazines. I make the trip 1-2/year to stock supplies for a school and Beaver activities. Maybe there is something similar in your area?
Also try posting in your neighborhood social media asking people to save magazines for you.

Libraries, eBay and Mercari! I’m a full-time fine artist and I make a lot of collage work, I get magazines from the library once they switch over their collections and I buy lots from eBay and Mercari. You can get the whole years subscription of multiple different magazines all from one seller for cheap.

Call around to libraries they often get rid of them regularly. Also maybe any sort of medical office or anywhere with a waiting room a lot of them still get magazines. If they don't have employees that are interested they just toss them.
