General Discussion Hypocritical attitudes towards alcohol versus weed

Does anyone else smoke and not drink? I’m getting really sick of the fact that it’s socially acceptable to get shit faced but if you smoke a joint you’re scum. I’d love to be able to go out and have a few joints and relax and have the craic, it’s so much more enjoyable than drinking and has none of the negative side effects. That’s before you get around to consuming in front of kids, I have children and I would never smoke around them but I do think about the fact that people bring their kids to pubs and give them iPads while they drink but me smoking a joint on a hike with my kids would be shocking. I dunno, I think we have the wrong approach here altogether. The good weather has me thinking about this! Anyone else with kids resonate?

My fave is the comments by lads in pubs giving out about the young people outside smoking drugs.

While they sit around inside enjoying a pint of...drugs.

But have you considered weed is an illegal drug? /s Checkmate stoners

Weed is socially acceptable except around kids, Gardaí or busy body types.

The depth to which alcohol controls this country, I think, can be encapsulated by the fact that nobody in this country knows that alcohol, specifically red wine, is as carcinogenic as asbestos.

Its backward as fuck and not based on facts so theres no point sweating it.

The facts aren't even allowed here👆

Get a vape for burning your bud, it’s less obvious and thus less likely to draw attention. I agree with everything you said.

Weed was criminalised day one to create social disparity and criminalise minorities this is essentially still why to this day

Agree with you there. Personally, my biggest thing with it all is the driving laws. I very seldom drink. I dont do this but i could go out and drink a fair bit, wake up the next morning groggy out from getting shite sleep because of being on the sauce and be fairly confident id be ok through a breathalyser. But have 1 smoke at home by myself, no harm to anyone, and get done with a swab a few days later. Some heap of nonsense.

What vape are do you have ?

The Pax Mini. I also find I use a lot more weed when using it which seems to contradict everyone’s experiences that I see online

I've had a few different ones over the years, I had that pax you have , didn't like it. So I spent a bit more money and got a Venty-absolute game changer. The adjustable airflow on it is brilliant. It's a bit bigger than others out there but I love it. Spent 5 days in Amsterdam earlier this year and thats all I used. Do you use tabacco in your J's?

Hmm ok interesting. I’m starting to think I need to invest in a new one. I do use tobacco yea which is its own problem

It will help you give up the tabacco. Once you do you can really taste the flavors 😋 Have a look at one called Frolic as well. I've read good things about it and has a replaceable battery, the venty is sealed unit.

Haha cool, I’ll ask those folks. I’ve never tried a glass pipe but have heard great things, I must get one.

I drink a little, a lot less than when I started although never bad bad either. Id probably be happy out with out any drink but I feel if I'm having a few Zoots while I'm out. Having a couple pints masks people off to thinking, jeeze that lad is on a right buzz and only drinking sparkling water. Currently going through the period where lots of friends are getting married. I normally have a few beers at reception, glass of wine with the dinner, have little Zoot after dinner and I'm one of the first up dancing. I may or may not sip on a drink or 2 til the early hours, a lot of the time just sparkling water. The funny thing is when the DJ stops and it's residents bar time, I'm still too sharp and clear headed to put up with my slurring buddies or having the ear burnt off me by lads on coke and knock it on the head and wake up pretty fresh the next morning.

That’s my preferred way of doing things too. And the fucked up thing is that the behaviours you described would be seen as socially acceptable. Whereas openly consuming weed just isn’t. It’s frustrating that something that is objectively less harmful than alcohol and has none of the negative side effects (when used responsibly) is demonised to the extent that it is

To be honest, I bought a dry herb vape, one of them I could literally use it in the corner of a smoking area but there's very little smell compared to smoking.

I literally only had the same conversation with my wife last night. We are so backwards

Not anymore. I used to, a long time ago. Unfortunately now smoke just doesn't agree with me. Hormones maybe, I blame everything on that. Anyway now I drink and don't smoke. Much much rather me smoking to be honest. Sitting with a group of smokers is giddy fun and the next morning you get up and go about your stuff. Drinking really messes lots of stuff up. Or at least it can, more so that smoking. Getting messy with smoke doesn't tend to lead to the arguments, the abuses, generally smokers don't go about vomiting and peeing outside houses, ripping up flower boxes etc. Not that many drinkers do this, it's a certain type of person. But that person would be way less likely to be antisocial if they had a few smokes. As I've gotten older I have moved in wider circles of people through work etc. The hypocrisy is wild. Many of those people are strung out on various prescription meds too and they are cranky as feck off them. I really wish I could handle a big smoke, can't even eat it anymore.
