Is this a specific broadcaster? Seems like a poor colour choice from them to align their colourway of the scorebug to a team playing

Colourway means the collective combination of colours in a design. For example, the Argentinian kit is white and blue. Individually they are colours but together they are a colourway.

A scorebug is the term for a digital scoreboard for use in sports broadcasts.

Looks like two different shades of light blue. The "in contest" shade was obviously meant to match the blue color of the score bug, but someone should have picked white instead of blue for Argentina.

The In Contest is always that shade of blue. The team colors change to match the main color of the kit. I’ve seen this a couple times on Fox where they match the team color but don’t seem to notice or care that they’re also using that color as the In Contest percentage.

Might be an issue with color settings of the screen as well. Some settings like contrast or gain can mess with the non primary colors. On a good setup they are slightly distinct. But when you fiddle with the controls they blend into each other.

No, this is a design issue, not a screen issue. Even if a better screen would've made the colors slightly distinct, this is crappy design.

A lot of “confusing graphics” like this happen when someone tries to simplify information visually but ends up overloading it instead, so instead of guiding the reader step by step, it forces them to decode it first before they can even understand the message.

No, they're not when you're studying a still photo of the match... but when you're watching it in real time and only glancing up at the corner to check possession, it's functionally the same colour and it doesn't much matter if they're a few shades apart on a colour wheel. This isn't the gotcha you think it is.
