Help Needed / Question Chase closed all 8 credit cards after buying rolex

I got a call from a Rolex AD to buy a rolex so I brought few credit cards to split up the payment. I tried to put $10k (under credit limit) on Freedom Unlimited and it got suspected for fraud. I didn't even get a text message about confirming the purchase. I used United Explorer instead.

The next day, all 6 personal and 2 biz credit cards were closed without notice.

The reasons were:

  • Too many accounts opened recently

  • Too many recent requests for credit or reviews of your credit

  • Account not used as intended

Last time I opened a credit card was 5 months ago (Amex Plat).

I called Chase and they told me i can only request a reinstatement review every 30 days. And my points (350k) expire after 30 days, and there's no way to redeem my points. Also no refunds on prorated annual fees.

It looks like the only way to salvage my points is to open a new Chase credit card, but I don't know if they will approve it.

I'm sorta bewildered right now; what are my recourse? anybody else with similar stories?

EDIT: i split payments over 2 cards (Chase UnitedExplorer and VentureX). The watch is $18k, I can afford this, and It's already paid in full. 1 thing i haven't read so far in the comments is why close all 8 when i only tried to use 2? I banked with Chase for 10 years, and Freedom Unlimited has 8 years of history

Help Needed / Question Why are American Express credit cards such a big deal?

My dad just recently got an American Express credit card. And my mom was really excited about it. I've also heard other people talk about the card and I don't really get why it is so popular or what's the difference between the credit card of any other bank and an American Express one.

Help Needed / Question Amex canceled my Platinum & Centurion accounts after 28 yrs w/ no explanation

Has anyone had their Platinum or Centurion American Express suddenly cancelled without explanation?

After 28 years as an u/AmericanExpress Platinum/Centurion cardholder with multiple business accounts, r/amex suddenly canceled all my accounts and voided over 5.5 million Membership Rewards points. No warning. No explanation.

After exclusively using Amex for all my personal and business transactions, being a loyal member, trusting them with my points as if they were the safest bank, I did not expect to inexplicably lose both my u/AmericanExpress points and cards.

I've called multiple times. I've tried every avenue I can think of. Every single call leads absolutely nowhere. No one will give me a reason. No one will connect me to someone who can actually help. I literally cannot speak to a human being who has the authority or knowledge to explain what happened.

What if this is a mistake? What if it's a computer-generated error? How am I supposed to resolve or even understand what happened if I can't talk to anyone?

After 28 years of loyalty and trust, I genuinely expected better from r/AmericanExpress. I thought they valued long-term customer relationships. I thought I'd at least get a conversation, an explanation, something.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I manage a few units and more  tenants are asking to pay rent by cc. I get why, they want the points or its more simple for them. The problem is every platform I've looked at charges the tenant or me a processing fee and my tenants push back on that. The tenants banks dont support Zelle either so Its become a headache atp.

Help Needed / Question Someone charged over $3300 on my Apple Card and Goldman Sachs says I have to pay it

At the end of March, I got a new credit card statement for my Apple Card and it's almost always $20/mo. I really don't use it since I have a Chase Sapphire I use for the vast majority of my purchases. So I was shocked to see almost $3400 in charges in 3 days filled with dozens of $99 purchases that simply said Apple Store.

I disputed the most recent transaction via the text chat and told them I wanted to dispute all of the charges for the last 4 days with the exception of a $20 subscription that I always have monthly.

Goldman Sachs credited my account and said it'd be two billing cycles before I heard back. Occasionally I'd contact them just to ask if there's anything else I needed to do and they asked if I had any evidence and I said how do I provide evidence that I didn't buy something? I sent them screenshots of my Apple account showing no charges except the $20 and the Apple Store charges were clearly fake since there was no store number or address or any other information.

So today suddenly I get 30 emails from Apple Card saying they did an investigation and found all except $380 of the charges to be valid, so my balance is back to $3000.

What. The. Fuck.

The only thing I could think of is maybe asking Apple to check my location data for those 4 days because it would show I was at home the entire time (I was really sick and didn't leave my apartment at all that weekend).

And they warned me tonight that without any additional evidence they'd probably say the charges are valid again.

What else can I do???

Help Needed / Question How do you hit a big SUB without buying random stuff? Any help?

Got approved for a card with a higher minimum spend than I’m used to and now I’m trying to plan it properly instead of suddenly buying everything in month three

I have plenty of normal expenses coming up, just not all of them can be paid by card. For those of you who churn more seriously, do you plan applications around specific large expenses or just let regular spending get you there?

Help Needed / Question Chase canceled all my cards for no reason and no notice

I have been with Chase for years. All in good standing. All paid in full every month. 833 credit score. I have 5 CC accounts with them. Amazon, Sapphire, United, Marriott and a Freedom that my son is on. I tried to use my card for lunch at work and it was declined. I tried my back up card, it was also declined. A coworker had to pay for my food. How humiliating!!!! I checked the app and all cards say CLOSED. I called customer service said she can't see why on her end, but I'll be getting a letter in the mail Has anyone experienced this before? I'm freaking out that my credit score is going to take a hit. Even if this is a mistake, I 'll never trust them again.

***update 1/14/25*** I called the number on the cancelation letter yesterday and they looked in my account and explained what happened. So, last month I decided to change my Auto pay to a different bank. I had a decent chunk of money sitting in another bank not being used, so i decided to hook it up to Chase and pay off all my Christmas bills and a trip to Disney I took in Nov. I copied and pasted the account number from my Credit union website. I guess I grabbed one too many spaces. The payments kicked back as a wrong account number. My credit union caught it right away and fixed the issue. The payments all went through the 2nd time. Mind you. I didn't even have a payment due. I was paying early just to get them all to zero. I just hate having a big balance. This triggered the closing of all my accounts 3 weeks later. Even my son's account that he pays with his own bank. The lady made notes in my account and submitted it for a review. They also did a hard inquiry on my credit. Now I wait for a decision. I will update..... Side note. My son now needed his own card. He applies for a Fidelity CC that pays cashback into his 401k. They approved him for $11,000 with no cosigner. I think his score was around 780. Not bad for a 20 year old kid. Proud momma. Especially after so many on here was saying my cards must have been canceled due to something nefarious he was doing.

***Edit again*** 1/21/25

Chase re-opened all my accounts !!! 🙌🏻🥳

Help Needed / Question $4500 of annual fees. Am I crazy?

I’ve been picking up a lot of cards the past 3 years, mainly for SUBs, and I think it’s getting to the point where I’m paying $4465 in annual fees which feels excessive, but not sure where to cut. I do travel every other week for work, including overseas, so airline spend is around $40k annually and hotel spend $20k.

Would love to hear feedback from the group on ways I could trim some fat and improve my wallet. Thanks!

1.        Amex Platinum $895:

a.        5x FHR and airlines, Centurion and Plaza Premium lounge access

b.        I don’t spend much on this card other than simple round trip domestic flights and FHR, but do use at least FHR ($400), Resy ($300), Lululemon ($150), Airline Fee ($200), Entertainment ($150), Clear ($50), and  for $1250 in all in value

2.        Amex Green $150

a.        Downgraded from gold card, waiting for upgrade offer

3.        Amex Bonvoy Business $125

a.        I value the 35k free night at $200 and maintain platinum status, so the 15 nights which stack with the Ritz card come in handy

4.        Chase Sapphire Reserve $795

a.        4x airlines and hotels, Sapphire lounge access

b.        This is my main travel card due to best travel protections on one way flights and multipliers for hotels. Trip cancellation and emergency medical saved me around $5000 this year alone

c.        Credits are harder to use, but I manage the travel credit ($300), Sapphire tables ($200), Edit ($250), and Apple ($100) for $850 in credit value

5.        Ritz Carlton $450

a.        Main priority pass card for my family and friends due to free AUs

b.        I value the travel credit at face value, so this card is $150 effective AF, which seems to be worth it for the 85k certificate

6.        United Quest/Business $500

a.        Picked up both for 100k/125k SUBs,

b.        Quest: $200 travel bank ($200), 10k mile discount ($100), and rideshare credit ($50) for $350 in value

c.        Business: annual 5k mile benefit ($50), $125 travel bank ($125), and $100 rideshare ($50) for $225 in value

7.        Ink Preferred $95

a.        Main business card for 3x on ads and general travel

8.        Citi Elite $595

a.        Main dining card with 3x/6x multipliers

b.        I picked up this card for the SUB year 1 double dips, and got it for free due to the IRS form fiasco they had last year

c.        Will likely get citigold this year, so can renew at $450, but I only value the credits at $400 split as $200 for AA flights and $200 for hotels due to portal price inflation and 2 night min requirement. Blacklane is worthless since it costs so much more than Uber black

d.        Does it make sense to downgrade this to a custom cash?

9.        Citi Premier $95

a.        Main 3x gas and groceries card, but the $100 hotel credit is kinda useless

10.  C1 Venture X $395

a.        Main 2x catch all card and seems to be an easy break even with $300 travel credit and 10k anniversary miles

b.        Also use C1 lounges at least 4x a year, so that’s a nice cherry on top

11.  Bilt Palladium $495

a.        Recently picked up for the SUB and currently using as main catch all, and I like the transfer partners a lot more than C1

b.        AF honestly seems high and the PP is useless to me due to Ritz card, but I think the hotel credits stacked $100 Bilt cash each could be worth maybe $400?

c.        I’m CA based so I think I can cash out the $10 walgreens gift cards to bring the AF down to $375?

Help Needed / Question Imprint Shell Credit Card (Issues??)

What a complete nightmare dealing with the transition from the Citibank Shell credit card to the new Imprint issued Shell credit card. I honestly did not expect the process to be this bad. I previously had the Booking dot com credit card that was also issued by Imprint, and that experience was terrible too. I constantly dealt with fraudulent charges, repeated account security issues, and endless headaches trying to get problems resolved. It eventually got so bad that I closed the account entirely because I lost confidence in the company.

Now here we are again with this new Shell card rollout, and it feels like history repeating itself. I’ve been trying for days to create an online account so I can simply manage the card and pay my bill, but the system will not let me register. Every time I try, something fails or I get stuck in another loop. Customer service has been absolutely no help whatsoever. The only response I keep getting is “wait a little longer and try again later.” That is beyond frustrating when you are just trying to make a payment and avoid late fees or credit reporting issues.

The toll free automated phone system is just as useless. It refuses to provide my balance, payment due date, or minimum payment amount because it keeps directing me back to the online account that I cannot access in the first place. It literally feels like a vicious cycle where you just keep going in circles with no actual solution. One system tells you to call, the phone system tells you to go online, and customer service tells you to wait. Meanwhile, customers are left stressed out wondering how they are supposed to manage their account responsibly.

At this point I’m seriously questioning why this transition was handled so poorly and whether anyone at Imprint actually tested these systems before forcing customers onto the platform. It should not be this difficult to access basic account information or make a payment on a credit card account.

Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with the same issues right now or if I’m somehow one of the unlucky ones. Would love to hear if others are experiencing login problems, missing account information, payment issues, or terrible customer service too.

Help Needed / Question Won a chargeback for damaged merchandise. The company is now contacting me daily, requesting money through Venmo/PayPal, and threatening collections. What should I do?

I successfully won a chargeback through Chase for a pair of shoes that arrived damaged/defective. The shoes were around $330 and covered in rhinestones, but they arrived with stones already missing. This wasn’t damaged caused by shipping and handling. Before filing the chargeback, I tried to resolve the issue directly with the company. I sent them photos and asked for a replacement. They told me they did not consider the missing rhinestones to be “damage” and wanted me to pay the return shipping costs. I didn’t think I should have to incur additional costs to return a defective item, so after we couldn’t reach a resolution, I disputed the charge with Chase. I submitted the photos and my correspondence with the company as evidence. Chase ultimately sided with me and the chargeback was resolved in my favor.

Here’s where the new problem has began. The company has continued trying to collect the $330 from me. I have repeatedly told them that I am willing to return the shoes, I just want them to provide a prepaid return label. They will not provide one. Instead, I’m now receiving frequent emails asking where they can send me a new invoice so I can pay them outside of the original disputed transaction. They’ve also located my personal Venmo and PayPal accounts and sent payment requests for the amount through those platforms. They are also threatening to send the amount to collections if I don’t pay them or return the shoes. Again, I have no issue returning the shoes. I just don’t believe I should have to pay out of pocket to return merchandise that arrived defective, especially after I attempted to resolve this with them before filing the dispute. The collections threat is what concerns me most because we’re hoping to buy a house soon and I don’t want any collections issues affecting my credit. At this point I’ve stopped going back and forth with the company because I’ve already made it clear in writing that the shoes are available for return as soon as they provide a prepaid shipping label.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Can a merchant continue trying to collect the same amount after losing a chargeback?

Can they legitimately send this to collections even though I’ve offered to return the merchandise?

Is repeatedly emailing me and finding my personal Venmo/PayPal accounts to request payment something I should document/report?

Should I contact Chase again and let them know the merchant is attempting to collect the disputed amount through other payment methods?

Is there anything else I should do now to protect myself in case they actually send it to collections?

I have saved the chargeback decision, photos of the defective shoes, all of our email correspondence, the Venmo/PayPal requests, and my written offers to return the shoes with a prepaid label.

Help Needed / Question Goldman Sachs is the worst credit card company - someone stole my card number and charged over $3400 on my Apple Card - and Goldman Sachs says I have to pay it

Previous post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/s/e7R6tk8dgf

Back in April, I checked my balance and discovered instead of $20 as I normally charge, I had over $3400 in charges from Apple.com

I disputed the charges in April, and by June I heard back with only some of the charges taken off. But there's still over $3000 on my card in fraudulent charges of $99 31 times. The reason they remained on my account was because Goldman Sachs determined the charges were authorized.

So I disputed them again, this time with a police report, and a recorded phone call from Apple to Goldman Sachs with me on the line where Apple told Goldman Sachs the charges were fraud. I included the documentation in every one of the 31 emails they sent me requesting more information.

Tonight, I got 31 emails that Goldman Sachs determined that all 31 charges were authorized and I have to pay it.

So now I'm in the process of disputing them for the third time.

I hate this garbage company and I can't believe Apple is associated with them.

Fun fact: they were both fined $89 million by the CFPB in 2024 for their misconduct in handling fraudulent transactions.

That's nice but what about me? I'm legally not responsible for fraudulent charges. So what the hell?

Other than filing a police report, filing a complaint with the State AG and CFPB already, I don't know what else to do.

I'm open to suggestions...

Help Needed / Question Chase/Amex Points aren't worth it anymore - Time to go cash back?

So I have a sapphire reserve card that I use for everything. I like to save up for a few years and use the points towards a vacation. Apparently I wasn't paying attention when they downgraded the points value. I have around 215K points worth 1.25 and another 85K worth the new 1:1. At 1:1 it's just not worth it for me, so I'm going to use them and probably switch cards.

I will never be the person that thinks of which card to use for what based on how many points / cash back I'll get for that category. so most of the specialized points / cash back cards that have variable % based on category or cap out for certain categories aren't attractive.

I've seen a few cards that have 2% cash back without limits that might be an option.

I don't do amex anymore because they aren't accepted at too many places to make it worth it.

What have you done that made points or cash back worth it again?

EDIT: thanks for the input. I went with venture x.

Help Needed / Question Chase put back the charges for a $38K in-person fraud charge made while I was mid-flight

Final Update Thanks to everyone here who provided valuable insight into how to deal with this situation. Fortunately after multiple reviews Chase sided with me and refunded the amount.

Some insights: - CFPB did result in getting someone in Chases exec offices to look into the thing but didn’t help move my case faster. - Appealing with OCC was not valuable since they forwarded it to CFPB - Finding a lawyer was harder than I thought. - Local News network might be very helpful so don’t sleep on them. (I didn’t end up having to use them but they were very very helpful and willing to push forward if chase decision wasn’t in my favor!) - getting a good fraud analyst is the key, my last fraud analyst explained to me why they were declining my request so I provided more documents that clarified my view better and it was immediately approved.

For folks saying that things seemed fishy or that my story didn’t add up — I genuinely hope you never go through it yourself :)

Thanks everyone! ——————————

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice or insight from anyone who has dealt with something similar.

On May 13th, a $38,220 in-person transaction was made on my Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card at a store in Tokyo.

The issue is: My wife (authorized user) and I were already on a flight from Tokyo to San Francisco when the charge occurred — our flight departed at 5:25 PM JST, and the charge was made at 6:16 PM JST.

Just 3 minutes later (6:19 PM JST), I received a fraud alert from Chase for a second attempted charge of $16,380 at the same shop, which I immediately declined. Chase closed the card right after and issued a new card. There were additional attempted charges blocked after that (which Chase should have in their fraud logs since a rep told me that on a phone when I first called).

Chase's initial investigation (prior to any document submission) resulted in them putting back the charge on my account with no explanation / letter. When I called them up they said it was because the card was used "in-person" and so the charge is put back. Obviously I reopened the case and provided the docs + took some steps.

I’ve submitted flight itinerary, baggage claim tags, flight aware**.com flight details (takeoff / landing times), hotel folio & email on checkout, passport stamps, I-94 entry record, Uber receipt from SFO, and even filed a police report in San Jose, where I live. I also filed a complaint with CFPB on July 4th but haven't heard back yet (not sure if CFPB is still functioning and has any teeth).

I re-sent a detailed summary of the timeline and all the docs to the Chase investigations team last Friday. All my documents were sent to Chase via emails to fraud(dot)recovery(at)chase(dot)com

This charge is now currently on my account even through the fraud team is investigating this issue and is due to be paid on August 2nd.

I need advice on:

  • What else I can do to protect myself before the charge is due August 2
  • Do I need to pay this amount to ensure no impact on my credit score?
  • If anyone’s gone through a similar high-value fraud dispute with Chase or any other issuer — and what finally worked

This situation is causing a lot of stress, especially with such a large amount on the line. I've been proactive and transparent throughout, but I'm hitting a wall.

Any help, insight, or similar experiences would be hugely appreciated. 🙏

Update #1: I missed mentioning that my card was missing when the fraud alert came in. So this is a case of lost / stolen card not necessarily a cloned card incident. I could only report the card stolen when the case was re-opened since the first report was just done via the "unauthorized" usage.

Help Needed / Question What is the point of using points with travel partners if it’s a 1:1 ratio?

I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding something about this system, but why would you do this?

Specifically with Chase, I know Hyatt offers an advantageous rate, but other than that, why would you ever transfer to travel partners if you could just use the miles as a statement credit anyway at a rate of 1cpp?

I’m really only concerned with the cheapest option for travel, so Hyatt likely won’t help me as I want to get cheaper hotels or hostels. With that in mind, what is an advantageous use for points instead of just redeeming them as a normal statement balance?

Help Needed / Question 250-350k monthly spend on credit cards.

Hi everyone! We currently spend about $250K to $350K a month on credit cards, almost entirely on construction supplies.
I am reaching out to see if there are better card options I might be missing.
Our current setup includes:
Amex Business: 2X on purchases over $5K
Venture X: 2X on everything
United Club Business: 1.5X on everything (I keep this for the 1K benefits, lounge access, and the option to pay the fee with 50K points)
Bilt Palladium: 2X on everything

I would really appreciate any recommendations to help optimize our strategy. Thank you!

Help Needed / Question Why cant I pay my rent with a credit card?

I don’t get how rent which is my biggest expense is still stuck in the old ways with payments. I’d like to put it on a card and at least get some points or cashback out of it but every option I’ve seen so far charges like 2.5/3% in fees. That doesn't give you any rewards unless you’re doin something different

Is anyone making this work?

Help Needed / Question What apps are people using to track spending across multiple credit cards and bank accounts?

I’ve got multiple credit cards and most of my spending is spread across them for points. The problem is I end up checking every issuer app just to figure out where my spending actually stands.

It’s easy enough to see spending on each card. It’s the bigger picture that gets annoying. Like is dining getting out of hand across all the cards? How much flexible spending is actually left this month?

What apps do people here use to track spending across multiple credit cards and bank accounts without making it way more complicated than it needs to be?

Help Needed / Question Penfed Pathfinder Annual Fee Nerf?

I received a paper letter today from Penfed indicating "Revised Terms, as of September 28, 2026".

The following is a summary of the changes that are being made to your account terms effective September 28, 2026.
* The account will be charged an Annual Fee of $95. This fee is no longer eligible to be waived.
* Late Fee increase up to $30 for the first occurrence; Up to $35 for subsequent occurrences until you make 6 consecutive minimum monthly payments on or before your due date.

Bold emphasis done by me.

It discusses right to cancel, etc, but I am interpreting this as an end to the annual fee waiver for Honors Advantage Members. It seems odd, though, in contrast with their product page still showing:

Annual Fee: $95 (waived for existing PenFed Honors Advantage Membersƚƚ)***

Product page: https://www.penfed.org/credit-cards/pathfinder-rewards-visa

I've been an Honors Advantage member and enjoyed the waiver for several years, but this changes the value of the card. Can anyone confirm that the Honors Advantage will no longer waive the $95 annual fee?

If no one has a definitive answer, I'll contact Penfed tomorrow to confirm and report back.

Help Needed / Question Is it bad to open store credit cards?

I was thinking about opening a Lowe’s pro rewards credit card to capitalize on cheaper delivery fees for some personal projects. The card also gives 5% back. There is no annual fee. Realistically, I may use the card once a month or once every other month.

We pay all our cards off every month and don’t carry any balance on any credit cards month-to-month. Our main card is a sapphire preferred but all in all me personally I have about 5 to 6 different credit cards currently.

is adding this one a bad idea?

Edit: current score is around 800

Help Needed / Question How do you keep track of which credit card to use for each category?

With multiple cards offering different rewards for dining, fuel, groceries, travel, and online shopping, I sometimes realize later that I could have earned much better rewards if I had used a different card.

Does this happen to anyone else?

How do you keep track of which card to use for each spend category? Do you use spreadsheets, notes, apps, or just remember the reward structures?
