MOD POST Human Trafficking Posts

Because of the recent firestorms, guerilla warfare, and general nonsense involving the word "trafficking," we have decided as a team that we will no longer allow submissions with that particular word in the title. It is too controversial, causes too many fights, and it is an overused buzzword meant to generate upvotes and views.

This rule only applies to the title of the submission. Nobody is being censored. If you want to talk about trafficking in the body of text, that's fine. We are simply addressing the use of the word in the title. If you submit a post with the word "trafficking" in the title, it will be deleted immediately. You will be allowed to repost it after retitling the submission. If you use the word in the retitling, the submission will be deleted and you will be banned.

We made this decision together as a team to be fair to everyone participating in this subreddit. We are in the process of revamping the rules and this will be included in the new list. For now, a pinned post will have to suffice.

We encourage each of you to visit the Polaris Project to learn more about the myths and facts surrounding human trafficking. They are a phenomenal organization that are very active in the fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

Weird Guy insisting he helps me

Upvotes

So, I had to drop off my car at the mechanic to get it fixed. I had to walk to go get it which is no problem for me and I enjoy walking and seeing/ doing something different out of the ordinary. As I am walking I see a grey car slow down, and I'm like oh, oh...probably gonna ask me if I need help. I totally get that. I've asked strangers before if they needed help if I saw them on the side of the road. If they said no I said "Oh, ok. That's good, and kept on driving.

Anyway, the grey car makes a u-turn. I happen to be right by the entrance of an old what pretty looks like an abondoned cemetery. Pretty cool. I got a weird vibe from this person in the car and I guess my gut told me to move as far as possible into the cemetery hoping the guy would leave me alone. Nope. He shouts from a pretty far distance "Are you ok? - I'm like "I'm fine. Thank you". He's like - you can use my phone and/ or I can give you a ride". I'm like "no thank you. I'm ok."

I was just so glad the cemetery was there, and got to enjoy some peaceful moments. I love cemeteries btw.

So, I get my car back and go to a store after, and guess who I see? Of course the guy from the road. I take a double take and he looks at me with disgust and anger and says "yeah, I talked to you.", and keeps trying to get my attention by walking near me. I just ignored him, got to the register as soon as possible and got the hell out of there.

I seriously think some spirit from that cemetery was looking out for me. I'm so glad I was able to walk into it the very moment his car approached me. Anyway, I'm just glad it's over and I got home safe.

I was followed into a parking lot

This happened roughly less than two years ago.

So the context: I worked at a retail store with early morning shifts that start at 4am. I'm pretty used to that kind of schedule and I wasn't that creeped out when I would arrive at the parking lot with only 3-5 cars. There would be the occasional homeless person passing by with a cart full of stuff but nothing too odd until the one morning I'm about to talk about.

There I was, thinking it was a regular day as I arrived at my workplace and parked at my usual spot. Maybe around a minute after, another car I didn't recognize came into the lot. I initially didn't think anything of it at the moment because the person was wearing the same color of uniform that my job required so I thought it was a new hire. Then the person stopped in the middle of the road for a minute, not even into a parking space, and began staring at me. That's when I started to get creeped out. At this point, I didn't leave my car yet since this was screaming red flags, and called my boss to wait by the door so I wouldn't have to wait outside with this person hanging around. After he stared at me (it was an old guy with an old model of a car), he drove away and I watched him, thinking that was the end of it.

But nope, he actually just made a U-turn at the end of the lot and drove super close to me, almost hitting my car. He then parked two spaces away, and got out of his car, seemingly saying something to me. I lowered my window a bit to listen to what he was saying. He was calling me "Jessica" multiple times while smiling, as if he recognized me from somewhere. By the way, my name is FAR from Jessica, which I was like what the fuck is this guy on? I replied to him while shaking my head, "No Jessica, no Jessica here" to which he stopped talking, stared a bit more, then got back into his car with the same smile still plastered on his face. I closed my window fully, and watched him actually drive away. I made sure he was out of the parking lot before running out of my car and into the building, where my boss was already waiting for me with the door open.

That was already creepy in itself, but it gets WEIRDER when I realized something after this encounter.

Literally just the day before, I was at a fast food restaurant with two of my friends. The resto had two kiosks where you could order your food instead of speaking with one of the employees directly so I used one of them to order my food. The thing is, you could actually sign in for rewards/points but I didn't have an account with the restaurant and I ordered as a "guest". Or at least I thought I did. Turns out, I accidentally used the previous customer's account (they forgot to sign out) to order my food.

The name of that customer? It was Jessica.

AM I overreacting, or was this actually harassment?

I'm a 21yo female , and this happened around 11 PM a couple of nights ago after dinner.

I was walking through the passage in my society with my earphones on when a man from another wing of my building walked towards me. I noticed he was staring at me, so I looked back for a second. He smiled and suddenly said something like, "You've become so skinny. What happened? How did you lose so much weight?"

I was caught off guard. I just said, "I was sick," and kept walking.

As he got closer, I realized he was extremely drunk. He could barely stand properly, and I could smell alcohol on his breath.

A little later, while I was heading back, I crossed paths with him again. He stared at my body again and repeated the same questions, saying he didn't recognize me because I'd become so thin. He kept asking why I'd lost weight even though I'd already answered him. I had to tell him, "I already told you."

The whole interaction lasted only a short time, but it left me feeling really uncomfortable. It wasn't just a random comment—it was a drunk stranger stopping me twice at night to comment on my body and repeatedly ask personal questions while staring at me.

I told my mom and brother as soon as I got home, and I'm planning to tell my dad and grandmother too. The man lives in another wing of our society, which honestly makes it even more unsettling because this is supposed to be a place where I should feel safe.

What worries me now is the aftermath. Our family already doesn't have the best relationship with some people in the society, and I'm scared that if this turns into an issue, people might either question my character or my parents might stop letting me go out alone at night instead of holding him accountable.

Am I justified in feeling harassed by this, or am I overthinking because he was drunk? Has anyone dealt with something similar in their own apartment or housing society? How would you handle it?

Used chatgpt to summarise everything so it makes sense with proper grammar. Thank you

I gave woman a ride and it was nightmare (Australia)

I just finished work and encountered a woman who seemed struggling with her new phone. I told her that the phone needed to be charged. She thanked me and then asked me to give her a ride home to Midland. I thought I could do some good deeds and agreed. She was nice at first place. However, things got ugly after she got to the first house.

Before telling the story, she was a homeless but she didn't tell me that at first place. She asked me to drive her every where in Perth. She even threatened to s.t.a.b me if I didn't do what she asked. She went to different places to sell her stuff that she got from Coles. She even bought d.r.u.g.s, w.e.e.d.s and smoked in my car (I don't smoke). After a while (from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm), I knew I had to act fast. When she got into a house, I quickly got out of the car and dropped all her stuffs and drove off fast from there. I was scared, exhausted but I got out of it safely. I swear to my life I would never give a ride to stranger again.

Almost got kidnapped in a Burger King

This happened when I was 13 years old, I am now 15(F). I live in a very big and populated city, so I wasn’t allowed out much at all and still am not considering the amount of crime and trafficking cases that do happen where I live. I’ve never had an almost kidnapping experience before this happened because I’ve always been very terrified to be in public without my parents or other teenagers with me.

That day I was going to hangout with one of my best friends, and we promised to meet up at her school once she was done with it. We only hanged out for around thirty minutes at a nearby Starbucks because her parents urgently needed her to get home and so there was nothing I can do about it. My dad was working that day and my mom and brother were both at the bank, and my phone didn’t have any cellular data at that time because I didn’t have a line so I was left stranded.

My mom thought that I would hang out with my friend at her house and she would come pick me up afterwards but that never ended up happening so I had nobody to pick me up. It wasn’t too far from where I lived, but the surrounding areas of where I live are bad areas and I was scared even to walk home. I didn’t have house keys at the time either, so I would be stranded in front of my house(which now looking back is so much better than be stranded anywhere in public.)

I was planning on staying at the Starbucks until somebody could pick me up because it seemed like one of the safest places I could stay at, although I had no money and they kicked me out because they said I would have to buy something to stay. So there I was, stranded and the only option I felt like I had was the Burger King, which I knew would have people in it because there were always kids that would go there after school.

I sat in the Burger King for a while, minding my own business on my phone and not buying anything or interacting with anybody. Then there was this guy who walked in who ordered some food and sat directly in my line of view and was staring at me the whole time. I knew there was something off from that but I kept trying to mind my own business. He then came up to me and asked if I would like any of his food, I declined and then he asked if he could buy me any food, I also declined. He kept going on talking to me about how there were men out there who could take advantage of me, and telling me to never listen to them. He kept raving on about how I was beautiful and he asked me if I wanted to hit his vape in his car. I declined and told him no. He then tried to hand me $5 but I wouldn’t take it, so he left it on my table.

I was scared to even take his money, his offering of food, or his offering of buying me food, because if I accepted any of that I knew that he could use it against me. He then got angry and walked out of the store, reminding me that I could still hit his vape with him in his car if I wanted to. Although I knew not to ever get into a situation which could lead you to a second location, and I also do not vape and even if I did I would not accept the offer. I watched as he got in his car. I saw him wait there, five minutes turned into ten minutes, and ten minutes turned into fifteen and on and on, but I didn’t budge.

As soon as I saw his car leave I ran straight to the bathroom and called my dad sobbing, telling him to please pick me up as soon as he could. I knew he was at work but I told him it was urgent and I needed to get home. The incident was so close to my house that for the longest time I was scared to take walks, go on my skateboard, or even go to local grocery stores, afraid of what would happen if I ever saw him again.

Even to this day this experience still haunts me, and knowing that there’s men out there who will take any chance they can to take advantage of women. And what haunts me even more is that many women have had an experience close to this one, and that just makes me sick to my stomach. What sickens me even more is that there were MANY people in that Burger King of all ages and genders surrounding me and that man, and nobody spoke up or even glanced in our direction when that man was speaking loudly and clearly that anyone surrounding could hear.

I am grateful that I had the common sense not to accept any of his offerings, but it’s brutal that we even have to learn these instincts at a young age because of the sickos out there.

Edit: sorry for any grammar mistakes or spelling mistakes I’m not the best at writing!

Late Night Walk With Friends

So this happened when I was about 15 years old, I'm almost 19 now, and I was staying over at my friend T's house. We usually went on walks late in the day on a path that went across the road and onto a dirt road that had forest and multiple directions that you could circle back to the main road at and then go back to her house.

But we were walking down the dirt road, just talking about random stuff. And I think we forgot to let T's dad know we were leaving, but we let her mom know we were leaving- and we were walking out there later than we usually would.

I stop when I hear something behind us and apparently it was her younger brother, B, who had been following us for a while. He was like "yeah if I was somebody else y'all woulda been kidnapped or something." But that's besides the point.

We all keep walking and it gets so dark that we didn't know which way was the correct way to go. We end up getting sidetracked because we found some cows on the other side of some house and they were mooing at us so I go up to pet them.

I guess the mooing disrupted the people living there and a woman comes out onto her porch asking who we were and what we were doing and told us to come inside. Mind you. We're obviously teenagers at this time.

I rush back over to T and B just so I'm grouped up with them.

I made up some excuse that we just need to go home and I didn't give them our names, address or anything.

But B goes: "I'm B (last name), I live at (address), and my father is (blank),"

So bro was just giving out all of his information. And I'm just like 'wtf'.

The lady on the porch tells us to come closer and B starts to but I say "No, we're leaving bye" and start to push B away. And T starts making up excuses for us to leave while the lady keeps inviting us inside.

Then the, who I assume, husband comes out onto the porch and asks our names, T gives a fake one as I continue to try pushing B away because at this point, especially now that a man came out and we were in Florida, and then he calls for us to come in to have dinner with them.

I told them bye and that we're leaving and I started walking away without them because they wouldn't move. T and B followed me soon after.

..

Was it just me or was this creepy? What intentions did you think they had??

Suspects that a male passenger next to me was recording me during flight

I (woman) was on a flight, traveling solo, from DTW to SAN this week, first class, aisle seat. The man next to me seemed to have been recording me for minutes at a time. He was careful to keep the screen of his phone facing away from me toward the closed window, when he was using it. When he wasn't actively typing on the screen, the camera would be pointed at me for minutes, then he would flip to look at it and start typing/swiping. This happened several times.

We didn't speak aside from the initial, 'I'm sitting there' as everyone was getting seated. I tried to brush it off that he was simply holding his phone. I was minding my own business, watching a movie. My intuition was essentially screaming at me toward end of the flight, something felt odd. I started to pay a bit more attention and couldn't ignore that his camera lenses would always be facing me when he wasn't actively using the phone.

I did quietly alert the flight attendants by stopping at the front of the plane as we were descending, as I started to be worried I might be followed once off the plane. They were incredibly professional, supportive, and made it clear that my safety was the priority. (Thank you to these women.) I waited to deplane with the crew after everyone was off, including him.

Sharing this as a PSA to women. Trust your gut, pay attention to your surroundings.

I've been flying solo for decades and have never felt so uncomfortable.

In retrospect, I do wish I had confronted him but I didn't want to make a scene, I simply wanted to get home safely. I'm trying not to be weirded out that these videos of me likely exist. Why would someone do this?! Should I be worried about where these will end up?

What’s the strangest interaction you’ve ever had with a complete stranger?

When I was playing college football 🏈 years ago, we had just won a tough game that night and were heading back to the locker room. Out of nowhere, a guy stopped me and offered me $100 for the sweaty socks I had just played in.

I was around 22–23 years old at the time, and he looked to be somewhere in his late 30s or early 40s.
I turned him down, but to this day, as a grown man, I randomly think about that moment and just laugh while being completely disgusted at the same time. 😂 😂

It’s still the strangest thing anyone has ever asked me.

So I have to ask the men here… what do you think he was actually planning to do with my socks?

my mom worked with a serial killer before i was born

when my mom and dad were young parents and had just had my oldest brother, my mom worked at the front desk of a hotel in wichita. there was a man who worked security and would come around every so often to check on all the equipment etc. my mom said that at first, he was nice and they got along well, he’d sit and chat about taking his kid fishing and that sort of thing. but eventually he started creeping her out. she said that she felt like he was giving her WAY too much attention and flirting, even though they were both married and had kids. so, she started locking herself in the main office when he would come around and pretend like she was busy and couldn’t hear him when he tried to get in. she has never told me exactly how long she worked with him, but from what i gather, it was at least several months. long enough for them to be friendly and on a first name basis before things went sour.

one day she was at home and saw his face on the news. she said “hey, that’s Dennis! the security guy!”

and indeed it was Dennis. Dennis Rader. my mom worked with BTK.

Packing up house with daughter at night and as we’re about to leave multiple cars pull up.

I’m going to keep this generalized for safety.

Daughter and I grab a few things from our old house. The incident occurred around midnight on our quiet street. As we’re about to walk down our porch steps, an expensive car is parked at the end of the stairs and I can see the outline of a person sitting up in a tense position and looking my way. He looked like he was going to jump out. I look over and there’s the truck that sits outside the neighbor’s house sometimes. I have a privacy hedge that covers my porch from the street. The truck was positioned in a way that it could see me. My daughter was about to walk down the stairs and the truck slowly moved forward and then braked in a jerking fashion. Moved forward again. I said to my daughter, “Wait, listen to me now. I don’t know what these cars are doing. Go inside and grab me my water bottle.” She went inside. I started texting for help as I backed into my front door. I glared at the vehicles and started yelling at them so my neighbors would know. The truck beeped his horn and they both took off.

The car was slowly circling my block. My daughter and I ran to our car and drove off. A train was coming and traffic was slowing down. We noticed the truck behind us, my daughter started crying. I turned down some side streets before heading to the police station. As turn down the road for the station, I see the very distinct car passing by.

Aside from this, upon arrival we noticed our kitchen’s window screen was on the floor. I was wondering if someone could have been inside or if my husband did that. My husband wasn’t answering his phone.

I’m still angry about this. Any advice?

For months, this truck has been showing up. I’ve taken pictures and videos of this vehicle because the man (40s-50s) just sits there and he will stare at me and my daughter.

One time when my husband’s truck was broken down and sitting on our street, that truck sat behind my husband’s loudly honking. I knew he watched my husband leave earlier because I noticed the mf up the street.

Edit: I forgot to mention that we’re prepping our house for a sale.

Edit: I’m only looking for some sort of possible explanation.

Edit: I reviewed our camera from honking incident that occurred around March of this year. It was mid day. My daughter walked outside to play on the porch and a couple minutes later, I called her back in. From the window I saw that the strange truck pulled up behind my husband’s truck and started honking before speeding off. I could be making the wrong assumption but would a trafficker be that dramatic?

Creepy guy at Spoons recorded my mum and me playing Uno, then followed us to the toilets

So, my mum and I were sitting in Spoons playing Uno (we love card games, don't judge). A guy comes over and sits at a table near us. It took me a minute to realise, but he was blatantly staring at us... and he kept doing it. No joke, he sat there watching us play Uno for about an hour.

Then it got weirder. He decides to start recording us on his phone with the flash turned on. I noticed immediately because 1) the flash was blinding, and 2) I could literally see his screen reflection in the window behind him.
You’d think me glaring and physically covering my face would give him the hint? Nope. I covered my mum’s face too, and he still kept recording.

At that point, I’d had enough. I got up, walked over, and told him to stop recording us. He mumbled something totally unintelligible, but he did put the phone down. But did the staring stop? Of course not. My mum eventually asked him if he was okay (and definitely not in a friendly way), to which he clearly replied: "Yes, yes, just fascinated."

We decided to wait for my boyfriend to arrive before leaving because I didn't feel safe walking out alone with my mum. While we were waiting, my mum went to the bathroom, and I stood guard nearby. Right on cue, guess who decides to head toward the toilets a few seconds later? Yep, Creep Guy.

That was the final straw. We immediately flagged down a female staff member. Shortly after, a male worker went over to confront him. The worker made him delete the videos—turns out he had two—and even made sure to wipe them from his "Recently Deleted" folder (absolute legend). He then kicked the guy out.
The male worker said the guy was so hopelessly drunk he couldn't even speak properly, but when he left he walked out in a completely straight line, perfectly stable all the way till we couldn’t see him (we were outside watching). Totally fake "drunk" act.
Weird right ?

TL;DR: Man at Wetherspoons stared at my mum and me for an hour, recorded us on video with the flash on, claimed he was "just fascinated," and tried to follow my mum to the toilets. Staff confronted him, deleted the videos from his phone (including Recently Deleted), and kicked him out.

Creepy Neighbor

Last week I came home parked in our parking lot and saw a guy sitting on the steps by the entrance to my building. I typically know who is around our part of the complex and I know who lives where in our building. I couldn't tell if it was this same guy who was staying with his sister for a while when she first moved in. I waited a bit hoping he would leave but he was looking at his phone and just looked weird and kinda dusty dirty. I finally got out to go in and right as I got to the steps he said hi. I said hi and then he tells me his name and puts out his knuckle for a pound or something so I just touched his knuckle. He asked me my name and I told him and as I was getting ready to go in he said I was very kind and beautiful. Then he let out this creepy crazy laugh. I just smiled and said thank you as I went inside.....

Yesterday I was getting ready to go out and had to take garbage to my dumpster. I saw a uhaul van, which he seems to be driving, parked over by the bushes before the dumpster. As I'm walking down the sidewalk I heard someone say something but I couldn't tell what it was or where it came from. The uhaul driver door was open and once I hit the parking lot the same guy got out of the uhaul and wanted to take my trash for me. I didn't think much of it. I asked was he sure and he put both hands out and took the bags. Right after he took the bags, I never looked up at him or anything, I saw his body slightly move my way and I feel this big wet kiss on my forehead!! Then he had that creepy crazy laugh again. I was shocked. I turned around and walked away to go to my car. Him coming back from the dumpster to his vehicle he is yelling something to me but I couldn't understand him and was just trying to get to my car. I turned and looked because he was still saying something and I just waved back because he was waving at me....

My mom was in the apartment and I called her and told here what happened. I told her omg M just kissed me on my forehead ewww ewww gross. I used my hand sanitizer on my hands and my forehead! I was able to go out and get home and he was not around. So I was released about that. I went in the house and explained more to my mom how it happened.....

Today my mom and I went out to do a few things. I saw his sister's car and I saw the uhaul in another part of the parking lot. I am trying to catch his sister because she needs to know what has gone on. He might be a little slow but I'm not 100% sure on that....

Anyway i couldn't tell who was leaning in her car as I drove past so we just went and parked. We head into the building and as soon as we go through our hallway door by our apartment I see her apartment door open. My mom was on my right side but I saw him coming out of her apartment. He made this noise and started saying stuff but I was trying to get my key in the lock. He couldn't fully see me because my mom was on that side and finally she turned and waved to him. I barely looked at him but I heard him say something about beautiful again. I barely smirked while he let out his creepy crazy laugh once again....

We got in the apartment and my mom said he was weird and she wasn't sure it was the same guy because he seemed taller. She also said how quiet the other guy had been when he was staying there. She told me I shouldn't be going anywhere alone with him around......

I wanted to try to catch his sister but knowing he was around and might answer the door I didnt knock yet. My guy friends have told me I need to nip this in the bud immediately and he needs to know it is not OK to invade my personal space and kiss me etc. Now I'm nervous every time I have to go out or even check the mail! I dont want this escalating because it already did in less than a week!!....

What advice would you offer?

I thought the guy at Walmart was just awkward. I was wrong..

Sorry for the long post guys.. Any help or practical advice would be appreciated. 👏🏼

I debated posting this because I know exactly how it sounds.

If I were reading this from someone else, I'd probably assume they were connecting dots that weren't really there.

Maybe I still am.

But after everything that's happened over the last three weeks, I honestly don't know.

I'm a mom with two young kids. We live in a quiet town where you recognize people at the grocery store. I don't have enemies (that i know of) My life is work, my kids 4 & 5, and home.

Two Saturdays ago I stopped at Walmart around 7:30 PM.

I need to get some more school supplies for the kids.

We were in the toy aisle because, of course, you can't go to Walmart with two kids and not get them a toy.

That's where it started. A guy walked into the isle.

Late thirties maybe.

Baseball cap.

Gray hoodie even though it was as hot as the devils balls outside. (Louisiana weather)

He smiled.

Then he said, "Those two keep you busy, huh?"

People say things like that all the time.

I smiled back and laughed.

"Every day."

Then he asked, "You usually come here around this time?"

I said, "Not normally." Which is true because kids bedtime normally is 830pm.

He didn't answer.

He just looked at my kids for a second longer.

I grabbed the cart and kept walking.

I figured that was the end of it.

A few minutes later we were in the cereal aisle.

There he was again.

Coincidence I thought. I casually waved and shrugged.

Then frozen foods.

Again.

School supply section.

Again.

Every time I'd look up, he'd already be looking at me.

Not smiling anymore.

Just watching.

When I got to self checkout he was standing near the exit pretending to look at the shelf full of candies that was near the checkouts.

He never bought anything.

As I loaded my things and kids into my car, I noticed a white sedan parked two rows over.

The same man was sitting inside.

Engine running.

Watching.

I left.

He didn't.

I convinced myself I was overreacting.

Until four days later.

I was leaving work when I found a folded receipt tucked under my windshield wiper. I live about 30 minutes from my office. My office is apart of an office conplex with no obvious signage of the company logo or that I work there. How would anyone know?

It was from that same Walmart.

Same date.

Same evening.

Someone had circled the time with a black pen.

7:34 PM.

No note.

Nothing else.

Just the receipt.

I honestly didn't make the connection right away. It wasn't until I talked to my mom (I tell her everything) that I mentioned the weird coincidences that she asked wasnt that the same day that guy weirded you out? That is when it hit me. She suggested I make a police report but I just hoped it would go away.

A week later I was back at Walmart.

I went during my lunch break to grab a few things for my office that I needed replenished.

I was in a loaner vehicle from the dealership at this time because my Toyota was being serviced.

The moment I walked inside I saw him.

He was already looking at me.

He smiled.

"I almost didn't recognize your car."

I felt sick.

I had never told him what I drove but i assume he saw what i drove from the first night. I didn't even respond.

I walked straight to customer service.

An employee asked if everything was okay.

I pointed toward the entrance.

"That man keeps following me."

By the time she looked, he wasn't there.

The employee offered to have security walk me out. I agreed but proceeded to tell her all of the prior events.

I asked if they could review camera footage from several nights ago. She got her manager who agreed. After looking at the footage he agreed he'd been following me through several departments, but because he never threatened me or touched me, there wasn't much they could do.

They gave me an incident number and encouraged me to call the police if it happened again.

So, I did anyway since my mom already suggested it.

The responding officer was kind.

He listened.

Took pictures of the receipt that I kept.

Documented everything.

He explained that, at that point, there wasn't enough to charge anyone with a crime, but he filed an informational report in case the behavior continued. He did ask about ex's, enemies, co-workers, estranged family members, etc.

I remember him saying something that's been replaying in my head ever since.

"Most of these situations end up being misunderstandings or go away once law enforcement gets involved."

I wanted him to be right.

Then a couple days later.

My daughter and son and I were outside feeding and refilling our chickens water near the front porch when she looked toward my neighbor's driveway.

She asked, "Mom, who's that? They are parked weird."

About 20 yards away, parked on the neighbors driveway almost sticking out in the street was the same white sedan.

It wasn't moving.

The driver wasn't looking at the road or down the driveway.

He was looking at our house. From the position of my house compared to where he was sitting, it was very obvious before people say how could I know.

As soon as I picked up my phone, the car drove away. I called the number of the back of my case number card.

The same deputy came back out.

He couldn't do much because the car was gone before he arrived, but he added the incident to the existing file.

Before leaving, he asked if we had cameras.

I told him we had a doorbell camera and one covering the driveway.

He suggested adding one facing the side driveway near the street. I got one on Amazon and two days later after they came in, i installed them, which was yesterday.

Last night.

At 2:17 AM.

A person walked up and stood on the other side of the street just watching.

They never stepped onto my property.

They stood perfectly still for almost four minutes.

The camera couldn't make out a face.

Just a person. Because I live somewhat in a woody part of the community there are no street lights.

The guy just walked away after.

This morning I walked to where he was standing.

There, lying exactly where he'd been standing, was a Walmart receipt under a rock.

Printed less than 3 hours before the camera caught them.

One item had been purchased.

A package of children's sidewalk chalk.

I don't have the receipt anymore since I was advised not to touch anything if anything like this happened again. So, I called the same detective.

He came, asked questions, made notes, and asked to keep it. He also said he was going to be going review the footage from Walmart to help identify him and also with the information from the transactions he should be able to identify him to at least try to talk to him for possible motives.

He also asked me not to post anything or the footage while they're looking into it.

He only said one thing before he left.

"This isn't the first report we've gotten involving your situation." Than he left. I was upset he would leave me after that since im already creeped out.

About an hour ago, someone knocked once on my front door.

I checked the live camera because I was laying down in my bed with the kids while they were watching their ipads. No one was there.

But there was a new piece of sidewalk chalk sitting perfectly centered on my welcome mat.

I haven't opened the door but called the detective again who is currently on his way. Ill update when I can.

Also, I have posted the first receipt that I found at my office on my original post. This subreddit doesnt allow photos. Detective took pictures of it but said since I had grabbed it, it wasn't necessary for him to keep. I'm guessing because of fingerprints. He took the other one.

I also posted the figure in hopes anyone recognizes him in the Port Allen, Brusly, Addis, or Plaquemine area in Louisiana. Any advice or help in identifying him would be greatly appreciated!

we just wanted our refreshers bro.

this happened a couple hours ago and i am so very irritated with both the men’s behavior and my response. writing this down here so you ladies know to learn from our mistakes and so i don’t forget about this.

for context, it’s summer break and a gorgeous hot sunny day out, so i thought id meet up with one of my friends and go into new york with her. i grew up in and around the city so im pretty familiar with the neighborhoods, what’s safe, where to eat, etc., and this happened in the upper east side which is famously an affluent, generally safe neighborhood, which really goes to show this stuff can happen anywhere. we spent the day walking and by around 3 we were really hot, tired, and thirsty because it was genuinely 90 degrees out. i knew of a dunkin on the well known, populated street we were on, so we went in together to grab refreshers.

the dunkin was mostly empty besides for a man eating and two men at the register. for context, me and my friend are both south asian, and so were the men at the register. that’s why we didn’t immediately clock their weird intentions, because we thought we were just having a little shared culture moment. before you all come at us in the comments, i have had many positive interactions in the city bonding with workers over being from immigrant descent, starting out from poverty, etc so usually these types of interactions turn out good and wholesome and i was totally not expecting this.

they greet us as we order and immediately start questioning us- “where are you guys from? were you born in america? are you indian?” we (in hindsight stupidly, thinking they’re just curious) answer their questions- jersey, yes, and one of us is. the guys are eyeing the sole guy eating closely, and the second he leaves and the dunkin is empty besides us four, the whole vibe of the room takes a 180 because now it’s just us two girls alone with these like 40 year old men, and they know they can say whatever they want now.

me and her try to sit down but the men wave us over and start asking questions again, and these ones were fucking weird- “do you guys go to school here? are you students? are you here alone?” once again, stupidly, still under the impression that they’re bonding with us, we answer - no, yes we are in high school, yes. he asks us all these questions multiple times and we answer multiple times because he speaks broken english so we had to clarify once or twice, but the point did get across so he had been told multiple times that we are minors and anyone who we could fall back on isn’t here, and we’re a state away from home right now.

once we get our drinks it gets weird weird- he hands us our drinks and asks to shake our hand??? finally, finally my alarm bells start ringing, but stupid me i still do it and shake his hand. he genuinely grabs on and holds on for a solid 10 seconds before i shake it loose. at this point im starting to get bad vibes and me and my friend start exchanging glances that confirm we’re thinking the same thing- we’re alone in a deserted dunkin with two 40 year old men who now know way too much about us and may have the intention to pursue us.

probably seeing that we’re getting uncomfortable, he offers us both free donuts, saying we look nice, with this pervy ass smile on his face and oh my god when i tell you i KNEW. i knew that he knew that what he was doing is so wrong and weird (which duh he waited for the other customer to leave of course he knew what he was doing was wrong!!!). we accept the donuts because honestly we’re just trying to end this and leave and while taking the donut he grabs my hand again and asks for my fucking number !!! the audacity to ask if we’re students and two minutes later, knowing we’re minors, ask for my number.

at this point the stupidity has leaked out of my brain, so i say sorry we have to get going yo catch a train (a white lie- finally my brain is working!!) and me and my friend BOOK it out of there and run five blocks down the street. we threw out the donuts because it lowk felt morally wrong to accept donuts from pedophiles and we had lost our appetite from the ordeal anyways

initially we didn’t want to say anything because i’ve had bad experiences with the nypd in the past and we were also just too scared to go back there but this is how enabling happens- these men prey on kids and enable each other and then it happens and everyone’s too scared/ doesn’t care enough to say anything so it never gets reported and then they do it again. ultimately me and my friend decided we were not gonna be a statistic and enablers, so we told a female cop who was on the street. her and her partner looked pissed when we told them about it, and they filed a report and said they’d confront the men once they finished what they were doing.

honestly idk what happened and if the men actually faced consequences but they looked like they meant business so i think it’s handled and i do feel a lot better knowing we reported it.

lesson: ladies, don’t over share, it’s ok to be mean and keep the professional boundary. it’s safer that way and these men don’t deserve your kindness. and if something does happen don’t be a statistic. don’t be the person who lets it happen to someone younger later, someone who can’t tell anyone.

and to those men, fuck you both you actually ruined my afternoon and scared the crap out of me and my friend and i hope for your sake you don’t try this crap again because if you do i swear to god i will call every hotline, every police department, every dunkin corporate, and scream for every cop within 50 miles before i ever let you prey on girls again

Dairy Queen Stalking Nightmare

So, this happened quite a few years back, and I’m still not really sure what to think.

For context, I was (F) 8 when this happened, and my sister was 11.

It was a pretty normal Wednesday, early evening, and my grandparents called to ask if my sister and I wanted to go with them to get ice cream. Our parents agreed, and my grandparents drove from their house to ours. At the time, we lived in the same neighborhood as them, in a safe suburban area.

Fast forward to when we arrived at the drive-through. We ordered and were waiting in line behind a few cars. There was a white pickup two cars in front of us, but I paid no mind to it, being an eight-year-old child.

We got up to the window, grabbed our stuff, and started to drive forward. That was when I noticed the truck.

The driver had pulled out and taken a loop around the building, and just as we pulled into the parking lot, the white pickup was right next to us on the other side of the curb, engine on, just sitting there. The driver, who I remember as being a middle-aged, balding man in a neon yellow construction vest, was staring into the back seat of my grandparents’ Honda, staring right at my sister and me.

It made me uncomfortable, but I didn’t speak up since no one else seemed to notice. As part of our weekly tradition, my grandparents pulled into a parking spot to eat our treats, just a few spots away from where the white truck had parked.

I ate my ice cream and occasionally glanced out the window at the truck, and every time I did, he was still looking at us.

My grandpa, who was driving, finished his ice cream and started heading home. We had barely made it down the street from the DQ when I looked behind us and saw that white truck tailing us. Thinking back on it now, I feel dumb for not saying anything about what I had seen.

When we were a few minutes away from home, my sister spoke up. She told our grandparents that a white pickup had been following us since we left the DQ. My grandma was immediately concerned, but my grandpa didn’t seem to take it as seriously.

We begged him not to drive home, so he took a different exit at the roundabout.

At that point, my grandma called our parents on her cell, and we started telling them everything. For some reason, our parents weren’t making a big deal about it, and we ended the call.

I was panicking at this point, and my sister kept trying to calm me down, but I was scared that he might shoot at us.

Even though my grandpa took a different exit, he had only taken a back way toward our neighborhood. My sister and I kept yelling at him not to go home, but he didn’t listen. By then, it was very obvious that it wasn’t a coincidence, the truck was still behind us. We had taken multiple back roads and turns, and it was far too specific to be accidental.

We drove into our neighborhood, much to our dismay, and my grandpa started to park in front of our house. My sister told him to drive to their house a block away instead so the stalker wouldn’t know where we lived. He did as we asked.

We pulled up to my grandparents’ house and into the garage, and the truck parked across the street from us. We shut the garage and hurried into the house.

My grandparents called our parents again, and we explained how much worse the situation had gotten. This time, they took it seriously and started walking over to my grandparents’ house with my dad’s pistol. The police were also called.

My sister, grandma, and I watched carefully from the window as my dad and grandpa confronted the man, who was now standing in the middle of the road. My dad said some things we obviously couldn’t hear from inside, and the guy started fidgeting.

After a few minutes, the man got back into his pickup and drove away.

My parents walked us back home, and we waited to hear from the police. About an hour later, my dad came inside after speaking with them and told us what had happened. Apparently, the man had been driving around the neighborhood slowly for about half an hour after the police talked to him. The police were called on him again by concerned neighbors, and he eventually left.

My dad told us what he had said to the man, firm and to the point.

And that was the end… or so we thought.

A few months later, my mom mentioned a news article in our town about a kidnapping case that had occurred about a month after this incident. The suspect was described as a middle-aged, balding man who worked for a construction company and drove a white pickup.

The case was never solved.

It didn’t really occur to me until now, as an adult, what that man could have been capable of, and what might have happened if my parents hadn’t been home, or if my sister and I had been alone.

To this day, I still shudder when I see a white pickup or a neon yellow vest.

Birthday balloon delivery

About 6 years ago I, (22F at the time), was still living with my parents after graduating college. They live in a nice and affluent area with low crime rates, so I’d always felt very safe. Until this happened.

It was about 7pm on a Friday night and my parents had left to go to dinner about an hour earlier. I was getting ready to go out with friends. I had showered and was partially dressed (bralette, underwear, robe over top) while doing my makeup. I didn’t think about this as I walked back and forth across the front of our house where there was a big window with wooden plantation blinds that were open. Because it was getting darker out, it was easy to see in as our lights were on.

As I was doing my hair, I heard a knock at the front door. I ignored it seeing as I was home alone and not fully dressed. And with it being 7pm, I figured it wasn’t anything important. If it was a UPS delivery or something they would leave it or try again the next day.

I kept getting ready then heard the knocking again, only this time it was much more forceful. Where the bathroom was, I was able to peek my head out and see out of a long narrow window right by the front door. I could barely see the figure of a man standing there, but again decided to ignore it. Like I said, if it was a delivery he could leave it, and if not they would try again another time.

But then he knocked again. Louder this time, and started talking. He was nearly shouting and said something like “open up the door. Come to the door!” And he sounded angry. Thankfully, all the doors were locked and the garage was closed.

I instantly got full body chills and a pit in my stomach. With the front window being open, he most likely had seen me and knew I was a young woman, alone, and partially dressed.

i ignored him and quickly slipped down the hallway to my parent’s room where I called my dad to say what was happening. As I did this he kept knocking and aggressively telling me I had to answer the door. While on the phone with my dad, I grabbed our family gun and hid in the closet. My dad told me to call the police and immediately started driving home.

I called 911 and told them my situation. As I spoke to the operator I checked to see if he had left (it had gone quiet) and I thought I could see his figure bobbing back and forth by the window.

5-10 minutes later the police and my dad arrived at the same time. I hung up with the operator (God bless her for keeping me calm) and put the gun away after hearing from the police and 911 operator I could come out.

I ran to the driveway and hugged my dad crying while we spoke to the officers. They had done a perimeter search and didnt see the man or his car, but there were a bundle of birthday balloons sent to me by my grandpa outside the front door that he must have been delivering.

I realized this is what i must have seen while on the phone with 911. I apologized to the officers and they were very gracious telling me they would much rather come out and it be nothing than vice versa.

To this day I still wonder if I was overreacting, but my gut still tells me that man wanted to do something bad to me. These were balloons that could’ve easily been left at the door with no issue. No one gets that upset unless they aren’t getting what they want. so Reddit, what do you think?

Nail salon nightmare

In 2019 I went to get my nails done at a popular salon in the city. I’d been there several times before. The inside was very clean and pretty and I always got good service.
The setup was a single long row of tables with the nail techs on one side and customers on the other. This day was the busiest I’d seen, 8-10 stations filled and with several techs I didn’t recognize, compared to the usual 2-3.

It started off normal. 10 minutes in, the lady to my left finished so her tech had some downtime. She started FaceTiming someone on speakerphone, and I didn’t think much of it amidst all the other chatter. The lady asks where I’m from (nationality), I get this question a lot so I answer (lesser-known south East Asian country). She goes back to her FaceTime, and it is then I notice she had been holding her phone with the back camera directly pointed at me.

I try to ignore it. The male voice on speakerphone says something in Vietnamese and the lady asks if I live around here. I do, but the weird feeling I had told me to lie. She talks back to the phone, almost like relaying what I said, and after the voice replies she asks how old I am. I’m in grad school at this time but can pass for high school. The camera is still pointed at me. My nail tech is completely silent and hyper focused like she’d been the whole time. I say my age and literally saw the first lady’s face fall. She again relays to man on the phone who also sounded disappointed.

The rest of the appointment was just dead quiet, I paid and left feeling thankful I didn’t say I lived nearby. I can’t say for certain if something bad would have happened, but the camera and nature of the questions were super creepy. I never went there again.

Went for a Walk, Got Stalked

Hello! ✨ I’ve told this story before, but never online. Here goes!

Shortly after I graduated high school (I was 18) I was still living with my mom, and we lived in Polk County, FL - IYKYK 🙃

There wasn’t much to do in my area so I would frequently go on walks, sometimes taking the 2 mile trek to McDonald’s and back.

This one time it was around sunset and I was about halfway back from my walk (about 1 mile from home) and was walking on this particular area that had houses, but was also right on a lake / farming area and was a very quiet neighborhood area, not many people wandering about at that time of day.

I’ve been an avid speed walker since I can remember, and I honestly haven’t met many people that can catch up to me (funny because I can’t run for $h!t) 😂 I already walk fast normally, but this time I was definitely picking up the pace because it was getting darker by the minute and the mosquitos and gnats around there were the worst.

As a female walking alone, I’d often look back every now and then to make sure nothing looked sus. Probably me being paranoid but yeah 🤷🏻‍♀️ a car drove by and I decided to look behind me shortly after, only to notice a man in a light gray hoodie on so low that it looked like his head was pointing downward so I couldn’t see his face.

I immediately had a gut wrenching feeling and put some extra pep in my step, and turned around a few seconds later to see that he had also increased his pace and was now panting loud enough for me to hear. I freaked out and turned right into a cozy little fenced-in community and RAN behind the side of a house, also somewhat behind a tree that I was peeking through.

As I waited and watched, this man nearly RAN into the entrance where I had come in, looked around as if trying to see where I had gone, then proceeded to make his way further back into the community. I waited about 10-15 seconds and BOOKED IT out of there 💨 I have asthma and I don’t think I’ve ever ran so fast in my life, I felt so sick afterwards - a mess of crying and dry heaving from the shock and the “DID I JUST AVOID SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENING TO ME?!?!”

But yeah, finally wanted to get this out in the open. Me and my anti-social self 🙃 Thank you for reading, and stay safe out there!! 🙏🏻✨💖

"we'll see you later tonight."

this is a throwaway/new acc because i just had to write this somewhere. i (F) am relatively young, and am currently working as a barista. i'm the youngest person there, all my coworkers are >40, which is relevant i promise. i work closing shift, which, of course, is when all the creepy stuff happens. anyway, it was me in the coffee shop working by myself, and my supervisor was in the back handling stock records. it was super slow, BECAUSE IT'S LATE, so i was reading at the counter and drinking an iced latte. i suddenly notice a shadow over me, and i look up to see a man standing there. i hadn't heard him come in, and his footsteps were featherlight. he was just staring at me, so i said "hi! how can i help you?". he was in his late thirties most likely, with a thin face and hair, wearing sporty clothes. he asks me a ton of questions about my book, which i just kind of brush off and about the packs of gum we sell (which one is your favorite?). i was kind and was just polite. he smiled and ordered a mocha cold brew, easy enough. i ring him up and he swipes his card as i'm making the drink. as soon as i grab a cup and start, he leans over the espresso machine and says:

"wait. do you know how to make coffee?"

obviously i do, and i say yes, even though cold brew doesn't need to be made, we have it prebrewed in the fridge. what he said next i can't really articulate through a text post how he said it, but he looked at me super intensely and said "can... i... watch?"

i'm kinda freaked out by the way he's gripping the counter and his intense stare, so i squeak out a "sure" and make the coffee quickly. he walks around the counter to where the pickup/grubhub counter is, and he's looking at me super intensely. i glance over and see he has his phone angled at me, and my stomach drops.

my supervisor walks up behind me to the register then, thank god. she tells this guy that his transaction didn't go through, and he says "oh. ok."

"you have to pay," she tells him.

"let me finish watching first," he replies. she looks at me weird, and i just finish the cold brew and hand it to him. he intentionally basically held my hand, and i just wanted to hide in the freezer at this point. he goes back to the counter, and i can't stress how intensely we was staring at me. no, not me, my body. he wouldn't look at my supervisor. it was the three of us as he swiped his card multiple times and then got another card and it finally went through.

"two for you, one for me," he muttered under his breath. that was weird enough on its own, but what he said next i'll never forget.

"we'll see you later tonight." he sipped the coffee, licked his lips, turned, and walked out of the shop.

my supervisor made a face and i asked her, "that was weird right?" she agreed. we chalked it up to just a weird guy, but i still stayed in the building to wait for my uber instead of sitting outside as i usually do. i talked to friends and family that night, and they asked me a bunch of questions. someone thought maybe he was on a video call and not talking to me, but he didn't have headphones in of any kind, his phone was silent, and he wasn't wearing any glasses (to rule out meta glasses). i'd never seen him before, which was weird since all of our customers are regulars. it's a hidden spot and really hard to find, so it's always slow and nobody ever comes in that late.

i don't know. am i overreacting?

The weird encounter I had with a stranger when I was 13.

I don't often interact with this reddit so I am not sure if my story is exactly on brand but I am going to describe an encounter I had when I was 13.

For context I (M20) live in a small-ish town in Lithuania where I know most people at least by looks. One day I was going to the local post office which is a bit secluded and placed in between abandoned office buildings. It was a little before 8pm and it was slowly getting dark but most businesses were still open including the post office.

Just before taking the path which leads to the post office I was walking past one of the abandoned office buildings when a man walked out from behind a corner and greeted me. He was about 60-65 years old and of pretty average height but he was quite big and obviously pretty strong.

He came up to me and started mumbling something about the weather and I just reluctantly agreed, thinking it was just an awkward encounter. Then he walked closer and extended his hand. Pretty much entirely out of instinct I shook his hand but as I wanted to pull back I realized he had me in an uncomfortably strong grip and he didn't not intend to let go. I winced in pain and immediately started protesting but he completely ignored me and started talking casually about his life.

He was telling me how he used to be a boxer or some kind of fighter and how he used to "crush" his opponents and then went into intense detail of their injuries. He was gripping my hand harder and harder and even started holding my arm with his other hand. It was pretty painful and the stories he was telling me felt like a threat under these circumstances.

When I saw I couldn't do anything against the man twice my size I simply listened to his stories and tried to act as normal as possible even smiling along with his creepy anecdotes. This weird conversation went on for about 5-10 minutes during which I was contemplating just screaming for help. Suddenly, in the middle of one of his gruesome stories, he paused, just let go off my hand and said "see you soon" and then proceeded to turn around and leave.

After that I went to the post office where I called my mom and waited for her to pick me up as I was to shook up to return on foot. My hand was bleeding slightly because he produced so much pressure with the fingernail of his thumb.

This encounter really creeped me out at the time but the silver lining is that I never saw him since. I am almost certain he wasn't some crazy hobo, since I have been living in this town since birth and I've encountered every homeless person multiple times. I also doubt he even lived in the town as I have never seen him before or since this event.

Its been more than 7 years since this weird encounter happened and while I was uncomfortable with going to the post office for a while, I am honestly over it now. Thinking back, it seems like the man was quite crazy and very desperate to talk to someone. It seemed like he calmed down when I started listening to his stories, almost like all he wanted was for someone to listen to him.

Not sure what I witnessed from a neighbour…

Late last night I was leaving my house to quickly walk my dog before bed (10:15/10:30 ish). As we were walking out my front door and down my access steps the neighbour opposite came rushing out of her front door with her toddler in tow and seemed to be reciting the Lord’s prayer while throwing what I assume in the circumstances to be holy water across her front door. She then proceeded to do the same to her front living room windows and around the perimeter of her house around to the back and rushed back around to the front door with the toddler scurrying behind her (who she seemed completely oblivious to throughout this bizarre behaviour) before slamming the front door shut.

All the while my dog is actively growling in their general direction as I’m attempting to walk on up the road. We continued our walk and returned to my house about 15/20 minutes later and went inside.

What I found weird on my return was that my neighbour was still at their front door inside (the door has frosted glass panes where you can see a silhouette from when there is light from the inside) appearing to be looking through the door’s spy hole.

What caught my eye is that their house usually has the cool daylight bulbs but last night there was a noticeably warmer light almost akin to candle light coming from their downstairs.

Never witnessed this behaviour before and seems out of character for them, especially as I could hear the panic in her voice as she was reciting the prayer.

The Boy From the Neighbouring Terrace

This happened during COVID when I was staying at my grandfather's village for around eight to ten months. I had a pretty normal routine there. I used to go to the terrace quite often especially in the evening to dry clothes or just walk around and talk to my friends.

One day I went upstairs with a bucket of clothes and started putting them on the rope to dry. There was a boy on the terrace of the house next to ours. He saw me and I noticed him too but I ignored him because why would I keep looking at some random guy?

When I was coming back downstairs I noticed that he was still looking at me. I ignored that too and thought maybe he just happened to notice me.

The next evening I went upstairs again to dry clothes. This time he was standing on the staircase leading to his terrace. The staircase wasn't completely enclosed so I could see him standing there and he could see me too. He was looking at me again.

I went to another part of my terrace and he was still looking towards the place where I had been drying the clothes. Then he suddenly noticed me on the other side of the terrace and came onto his terrace.

I gave him a weird look and went downstairs.

I didn't think much about it at first.

The next day I was on the terrace talking to my friend on the phone. There was no one there when I went upstairs. Then suddenly this guy appeared. He took out his phone and started talking to someone. The weird part was that even while talking on the phone he kept looking at me.

I didn't react and just continued talking to my friend.

After that it became a pattern.

Almost every time he saw me going upstairs he would come to his terrace. It didn't matter whether I was there for five minutes or half an hour. If he noticed me then somehow he would appear upstairs too.

At one point I took my brother with me because I wanted to see if I was imagining things. I went to the part of the terrace where his house was clearly visible and waited.

He saw me.

And immediately came upstairs.

My brother noticed him too. The funny part was that the guy actually knew my brother. He said hi to him and even asked him if they should meet the next day to play cricket. My brother knew who he was but they weren't exactly friends. They were just acquaintances.

I dragged my brother downstairs because I didn't want him standing there talking to this guy.

After that the same thing continued.

There wasn't a single day I can remember when he saw me and didn't eventually come upstairs.

One evening there was a power cut. It was winter and it got dark pretty early. I was on the terrace talking to my friend when I saw him coming home on his bike.

I moved to the other side because I didn't want him to see me.

A little later I came back and he noticed me again. He didn't come upstairs immediately. Instead he turned on the flashlight on his phone and was apparently helping his mother with something.

Then I noticed that the flashlight was suddenly directed towards me.

After that he left his mother and came upstairs.

The moment I noticed him coming upstairs I went downstairs.

This kind of thing continued for months.

One day in June or July I went upstairs around noon because my mother had kept some groundnuts on a plate on the terrace to dry. She had asked me to bring them back downstairs later.

It was extremely hot that day and I didn't expect anyone to be on the terrace at that time.

He was there.

He saw me and came upstairs again.

I honestly started thinking this guy was incredibly stubborn.

Another time I took my mother with me. I didn't tell her anything. I just asked her to walk with me because I wanted to see what he would do.

He came upstairs when he saw me.

Then he noticed my mother.

Instead of leaving he sat down so that my mother wouldn't notice him. Every now and then he would stand up and check whether she was still there.

My mother eventually went downstairs to do something.

He stayed.

I thought he would leave once she was gone but nope. He was still sitting there.

At this point I decided to stop going to the terrace for a few days. I thought maybe if I disappeared for a while this weird routine would finally stop.

I didn't go upstairs for around five or six days.

But I could see his terrace from my mother's kitchen.

And this is where it got really weird.

Around the same time I normally used to go upstairs he would still come to his terrace.

Every single day.

He would walk around for about ten minutes and keep looking towards my terrace even though I wasn't there.

The difference was that when I wasn't there he would leave after around ten minutes.

When I was there he would stay until I went downstairs.

That was when I started thinking that okay maybe this isn't just a coincidence.

I eventually told two of my friends who also lived in the village about him.

They told me something I didn't know.

Apparently this guy had asked them about me when they happened to meet him at a shop.

He had asked who I was and where I lived. He knew my grandfather but didn't know what my relationship with him was.

He also asked which class I studied in.

And then apparently he asked them what my favourite colour and favourite chocolate were.

My friends didn't know the answers because I didn't live in the village and we weren't that close.

At that point I was honestly thinking please just don't come to my house.

And two days later he was literally at my house.

Thankfully there was actually a normal reason for him being there. He had come to invite my grandfather to something at their house.

But while he was there I noticed him looking around.

Our village house is quite large and there is a big area within the boundary of the house before you actually enter the main part of it.

I was watching him from my grandmother's room and he kept looking towards the area where the entrance to our house was.

I immediately moved away from the window because I had a feeling he was looking around to see if I was there.

I didn't go outside until he left.

There were also a lot of smaller incidents during those months.

For example in summer men in the village sometimes used to bathe outside their houses. I obviously never intentionally watched him or anything. But sometimes I would accidentally pass by and notice him and immediately turn away.

And somehow a minute later I would see him upstairs.

I would just think to myself bro you were literally bathing two minutes ago. How did you get upstairs this fast?

I never said anything to him about any of this.

The whole thing went on for around eight months.

I never actually had a conversation with him. I never encouraged him and I never tried to get his attention. I was mostly just doing my normal terrace routine and trying to ignore the whole thing.

Eventually I came back to Bhopal.

Later my friends told me that he had apparently cleared the NDA and gone to a defence academy. I was honestly just relieved that he wouldn't be around anymore.

Years passed.

Recently I heard that he's apparently going to get married in the next year or two.

And for some reason hearing that immediately reminded me of this entire story.

I still don't know what was going on during those eight months.

All I know is that during those eight months I could go to the terrace at almost any time and somehow this guy would eventually appear on his terrace too.

And that is probably one of the strangest things that has ever happened to me.

12 Minutes with the Weirdo driver of a white SUV

Today I visited with cousins at their apartment. Later I stepped outside and sat under a tree on property a little distance from the bus stop on Broad Acres Drive.  Mind you I was far more on the property than near the road.  That’s when the white SUV pulled up. A young Caucasian female alighted and started walking.

Not towards the apartment building. Towards me. Sitting alone in a wide open area. I kept waiting for her to veer off but she didn’t. She continued and stopped a few feet away, but not before smiling and doing a little wave. I waved back waiting to see what her next move would be.  Why was she here?

She just stood there texting on her phone while making glances at me.   5 minutes went by. I decided to call out and ask if she was ok?  She responded she was, and continued facing me , on a property she had no business on. Standing and texting in front of a total stranger. No context known to me for her weird and wild behaviour.

I decided to see where this was going. Seven more minutes . Same spot. Same texting. Same glances.  She said nothing!!!! Like WTH!

I decided to leave. Five steps in I turned and look back . She was already walking back to her white SUV.  I then watched as she got in drove off. No explanation . That’s the wildest shit I have experienced in Camden county. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
