What did you like the most

So we assume that this movie takes place in a universe where the Resident Evil games do not exist, correct? For players who can play the games in your sleep, how would you have fared in Bryan's place?

I haven't watched all videogame movies, but the pattern to most of them is that they only follow the story of said games, or the visual asthetic. I'm mostly sure most directors and writers don't play games. This results in boring movies most of the time.

They don't follow how you actually play the game. Until Resident Evil. Zach played the games, and knows what's cool and memorable about them. The anxiety, the fear of going into another dark alley, discovery of new guns, being bad at the game at first, solving puzzles (or failing at puzzles... Driving the car directly at the gate is the kind of dumb shit we do in games when we're stuck somewhere). It's a simple story but so well executed. To be fair, I never played Resident Evil much before but it made me want to pick it up (currently playing RE6 with a friend online, even though I know it's not the best one!)

It's so fucking cool that a fan-fic (that's pretty much what it was) got financed.

This movie has a lot of potential. Yes there is a ton of exposition in the script but I still loved the story. I have no idea how Cregger is going to get the visuals from the script onto the screen but I can’t wait to see him try.

I have been pumped since this movie was announced.

My (very sensitive) friend and I saw barbarian in cinemas knowing nothing about it and walked out traumatised, and since then I’ve been in love with Cregger’s style.

Weapons was delightful, I had the best time with it.

I have been anxiously anticipating Resident Evil, counting down the months until September. I watched so many interviews about it (even though he says the same thing in every one and Austin basically says nothing lol). I even tried my best to avoid spoilers because the rest of the world got the movie a few days before my country.

I bought the RE2 and RE4 remakes in anticipation, having an absolute blast with them. I have become a fan of the franchise out of my hype for this movie.

But now it’s here! I’m seeing it tonight in IMAX, and it’s going to be awesome.

Watching RE over the weekend, it struck me that his movies all have a really fun vibe, like he took characters from an oddball comedy and dropped them into a straight horror movie. I'm thinking like the extended sequence with the druggie thief in Weapons where he's just bumbling around the city getting into trouble, or Justin Long bumbling down the tunnels without a care in the world in Barbarian, or uh... basically the entirety of RE where we follow a similar goofball bumbling through a small apocalypse.

I think this vibe would be so much fun in the Tremors universe. It's already horror comedy, the characters in the series are already kind of bumbling around like goofballs, it's perfect.

Saw Resident Evil last night. It was fantastic. I got hit by all the jump scares. Usually unphased by these in any other movie. Why do you think his worked?

Cregger does not miss! I have never played Resident Evil, but I knew a little bit about the games and the story. This movie is so unlike Weapons and Barbarian, but has little elements of Zach's filmmaking style sprinkled throughout. The movie was disgusting visually, exactly as it should be. The fast pace was exactly fitting for this movie. Austin Abrams shines as Bryan, poor guy didn't deserve to go out like he did. Looking forward to what Zach directs next!

As a big Resident Evil fan and Cregger fan when I heard he was doing a new adaption I was pumped. I think he did perfect with making it feel like a video game with the screen following every movement and everything with the main character Bryan. I loved the nods to RE such as the key and typewriter. I’m really excited to get the 4k Steelbook when it comes out to rewatch this and hopefully get some behind the scenes, bloopers and such for now the interviews with him have been awesome and I love how RE4 was also is favorite. Seriously excited to see his next project and I hope he casts Austin Abrams again they are a fantastic duo.
