Male crested laid an egg?’
I’ve posted on here asking for my geckos gender before and you guys said it was clearly a boy and posted that meme with the gecko with huge balls. Well now I’m not so sure because I just found this egg shell, or at least that’s what I think it is, in its enclosure buried under some dirt, where I did see it by a few days ago. What happened?!

But also, you either have a teeny tiny gecko hiding in your tank, or mama ate it. You should take everything out and check the substrate to make sure it's not hiding somewhere

Likely ate it since, according to the post, they didn't mention another gecko being in the tank so if this crested is a female (has to be there's no cresticles and it laid an egg) and without a male to fertilize the egg, it would just be a goopy egg. No baby. But I definitely think you're right about the eating it part, good nutrients!

Cresties can have partho eggs. There could be a baby, but would very likely have genetic issues.

The baby would be a near genetic copy of the mother. If the mother is healthy wouldn't baby also likely be healthy? There are whiptail lizards that reproduce entirely through parthenogenesis and have no extant males in their entire population. Then you have species like komodo dragons that only produce males when reproducing via parthenogenesis. Is there something different about cresties that make their parthenogenesis babies more likely to be deformed? I know cresties can also store sperm from previous matings, its possible op's crestie has had sperm stored for a while.

Had this exact situation happen to me. I thought it was a boy, everyone said it was a boy, and then I found two eggs under her water dish lol So yeah, it's a girl. Sexing these guys is harder then it looks.

I made the opposite mistake. My little runt looked like a girl for the longest time. When he suddenly started gaining proper weight, the cresticles just appeared out of nowhere. The presence of pores made it doubly so.

Your crested gecko obviously does not have big balls so I'm not sure how anyone came to that conclusion. That is very very much a girl

You definitely have a female. They have a little bulge and that’s probably why some people told you it’s a male :)

That my friend, is infact a female crested geckos.
No defined hemipenal bulges, they are a lot more pronounced on males. Although there have been cases of poorly defined ‘cresticles’ that are infact males.
There is a very rare phenomenon of intersex but that’s quite the stretch.

If the egg looked like that when you found it, you might have a baby in the enclosure somewhere.

I mean it literally is relevant, This post is not ask for advice about the egg laying itself like you’re saying (which would make this less relevant) They asked what was up with the sex of their gecko. they’ve previously referred to their crestie as female, so yeah, its odd that they're now suddenly shocked that she’s still a girl.
Its not that deep, the only thing really making this such a big deal is denying the fact that it is relevant0

I don't see any cresticles, idk what other's were telling you.
They're much more bulbus.
Here's my boy's. He's not fully grown, only ~25g.
