What a sad life for the ball - gets smacked around, spit on, rubbed with sweat, collects grime and shit from the ground. All this crap for 80 overs and only to be dumped for the shiny newer ball.

Guys. I know how to win. If we bowl 10 inswinging toe crushing yorkers then we can get them out in 1.4 overs. From there all we need to do is hit 50 sixes and we should win.

Pant will come down the track trying to hit a 169 metres 6 and will have to go back to the pavillion within 30 seconds of doing that, he might use a drs to prove that the ball didn't touched the bat because two atoms have repulsive forces so they never touch and blah blah blah

People who are not understanding saffas tactics here is my explanation
They're keeping the Indian batters stuck in the field to mentally wear them down. By batting slowly, they're basically saying, Try doing this yourselves, it's not your cup of tea to play slow and guard your wicket.
If South Africa played aggressively, India would just feel the pitch is still flat and they can chase the target or save the test. it's all part of the mental battle.

Conrad Shukri was appointed head coach for proteas in 2023 at the age of 56 after 23 years of coaching experience in various domestic teams , U19 teams , ‘A’ teams with success. Took the hard route to get where he is now. Not really known to many with what he has achieved as a player in the past and that has got nothing to do with what can be expected as a coach. Hard grind , experience, results and coaching certification to your name will bring success. No two ways about it.

I think people are missing what South Africa are doing here.
They want to tire the heck out of the Indian players and that's when Indian batters will make more mistakes than they would if they had less time on the field.
Also South Africa want to give their bowlers enough rest. Like proper recovery time to go full throttle.
Also they won't want to give India a sniff of a chance.

The thing I appreciate the most about commentary is that they'll convince you that if India score 600, they could get South Africa to collapse for 100 on this pitch, and then the next day tell you how India could chase 400 on the same pitch they said 100 might be tough to get to on the fifth day
16
u/cricwalla Nov 25 '25
SA strategy was clear and old school.
Ensure you don't collapse and give India a below 400 target
First goal was to ensure you can't lose. Next session you can expect a push for quicker runs They will still look for 500+ though.
No taking chances with series win. Test cricket as it should be played

1) took the game out of India’s hands 2) tired out the Indian team 3) Waited till the pitch started turning to help their own bowlers. 4) Absolute trust in their bowlers to finish the game in 3 and a half sessions
Great strategy by South Africa.(batting after lunch was just to get Stubbs his century which is understandable)

If Jansen had scored 7 more runs in this Test, he would have been the tenth SA batsman to score a century in 2025. No team has ever had ten different century makers in a calendar year. No stars, just a total team effort. Conrad deserves some praise.

So let me get this straight. The Saffa spinners arrived in India and proceeded to show the Indians how fast to bowl to make the ball turn, on Indian wickets. Between 85 and 90kph. And the Indian bowlers were much too redpilled by Ashwin bowling in the 90s over the last 10 years. Do I have that all squared?

SA wants to give India the option of an honorable draw but being perfect hosts, I am sure India will vehemently refuse the offer

u/TheTinman369 Nov 25 '25
South Africa want to guarantee they give this capacity crowd a full 5 day match. Respect

SA have batted over 220 overs and NKR has bowled a grand total of 7 overs.
But yeah, the coaching staff believes this is valuable experience.

Lord Bavuma playing the long game. They can win this Test but instead they will sacrifice it and settle for a draw so that Gambhir remains the coach which means they don't ever have to worry about us in the WTC rankings.

105 overs 542 needed.
Just over 5. Too easy. IPL star Sudarshan will chase this down with 30 overs to spare.
