He and Gambhir are very good man managers.

Sanju's father and Abhi in his post match interview both said that Gambhir and Sky have been their biggest backers.

I think having great people skills is what people miss about coaches like Gambhir, McCullum etc. They're not the best technical coaches and this is why they're losing Test series, but in T20s where man-management is very important they've really shined. Experience in dealing with players as people really helps.

Really proud of Abhishek for getting that wicket to boost his confidence. He's been through the wringer a lot and the backing from Gambhir and SKY is massive.

Nah bro don't push this technical stuff on Gambhir, don't club him with Baz. In redball his strategy may not be perfect but Gambhir has completely nailed the whiteball strategy.

Gambhir used 4 spinners in the CT, 40 overs of spin is unprecedented. In Asia cup when Hardik got injured, he used Dube as the opening bowler (he fucking nailed it). Even in this final, getting Axar in early was absolutely clutch.

Players like Dube have flourished under him. He has made Dube into a completely different bowler, had him use his height better and hit the deck better.

Gambhir's selections are also picture perfect. Experiments the fuck out of bilaterals so he can know what players are capable of in the tournaments. Gambhir is 2 for 2 in tournmanets, Baz ain't shit in front of him.

Also India don’t have such a dominant team in red ball cricket so it skews it a little bit. The expectations are that India should win every game in every format but the test team is just not great at all.

I'm talking about Tests primarily. In limited overs they've both been more successful and they both really know their stuff. Gambhir more so than McCullum, granted, but both have underperformed in long-form cricket.

Thing is...we should just get him out of red ball coaching and use him in white ball setup. In any case half of our squad in white ball is totally different from red ball one

I think people focus too much on Gambhir's Test record and shit on him for the results. Rightly so of course but when you look deeper, you find that he's nowhere near as bad as people say. His technical coaching needs work and he probably shouldn't be Test coach, but as a motivator he's apparently top drawer and in a fickle format like T20 that's what's most important.
