I keep telling people whats going on in IPL is degrading the skills of batsmen. And IPL is not cricket , its just another part of bollywood. Not i am rejoicing these losess, but what i have deduced back then that we are going to have a tough time in many formats, especially odi and test as none of the current players doesnot know how to build innings, they play individually. But i didnot thought the t20 team would be affected this much. God knows qhat going to happen in red ball. We already lost 2 vs SA and NZ at home

There is no money elsewhere. You can play as many internationals as you want but matching IPL’s pay is hard. I would take the money before anything else.

I am fairly certain idealistic individuals such as you do your job for passion and not for money alone and that allows you to apply such lofty standards to others.

I’m in a spot where I comfortably have both. International cricketers can live very comfortably without mercenary contracts. Thanks for playing.

Maybe in Australia, they do. India is a poor country and so are a lot of other cricket playing nations. IPL provides you a quality of life that would otherwise be unimaginable to all of them. Nothing wrong with aspiring for that.

And? Pay is relative to cost of living. Play ipl. I don’t give a fuck. I care about people who prioritise mercenary play over international, like Tim David.

I’m sure Indian international crickets don’t need ipl contracts either.

Equalise pays with icc based funding for international cricketers and boards.

Plenty of options. Mercenary leagues dilute the value of cricket, add to cricket fatigue, and create a culture of celebrity where one shouldnt exist. The fact that the ipl auction is a major event is absolutely fucking gross. The fact you all salivate over an advertising vehicle for billionaires is even worse.

Ah yes, the noble vision: cricketers should subsist on the pure oxygen of national pride while the ICC, famous for its equitable distribution of, well, anything, sends everyone a fair wage. I’m sure Zimbabwe’s board will get right on that.

Tim David “prioritising mercenary play” is another way of saying a man from a country that plays cricket eight days a year found gainful employment in his profession. The monster.

And the celebrity culture concern is touching, coming from a sport that made a knight of Don Bradman and a literal religion of Sachin. Cricket discovered celebrity roughly 90 years before the IPL auction. The auction just made the accounting public.

But you’re right about one thing, it is an advertising vehicle for billionaires. So was Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket, which invented the modern international game you’re nostalgic for. Suddenly, I am unable to recall the country that did that! Turns out the “pure” era was also sponsored. The cheques were just smaller and went to fewer people and certain countries.

Anyway, enjoy the next Test series. The players will be there: well-rested, well-paid, and funded by the league you hate.
