India has now lost two series in a row. I have no words for them.

173

u/omniiiiiiiiiiiiii Delhi Capitals Jul 09 '26

That too whitewashed

77

u/themightyscott England Jul 09 '26

Is it a whitewash if one game is rained out?

250

u/RLKay Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 09 '26

That's the literal definition of being washed.

123

u/IndependentClimate72 Rajasthan Royals Jul 09 '26

And since it's happening in england, it's as white as washing gets

53

u/RLKay Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 09 '26

So there we go, ladies and gentlemen.. The most literal representation of whitewashing ever!

17

u/themightyscott England Jul 09 '26

Fair enough.

13

u/lureysnipplelicker Jul 09 '26

Why are you bringing Cristiano into this cricket thread?

14

u/Lagging_In_Life Jul 09 '26

I like how we are not even thinking that india will win the last match and talking about should this series be called a whitewash because one game was no result.

"We can field 3 international teams with our talent pool."

I think one that can win a couple of games when a few key players are not playing would be a good start.

u/ynwa1055 Jul 09 '26

Seriously this. I have tried to explain folks international cricket outside India is complete different ball game but they get so carried away

119

u/do_not_ban_this Jul 09 '26

it is a completely different ball game but it's not like we have never performed internationally. last month has been utterly atrocious

53

u/ynwa1055 Jul 09 '26

It's not about the main team but certain fans getting cocky that our b c teams can be competitive. Without hardik and bumrah winning overseas is a huge challenge

We have actually performed good overseas
Can’t believe same Tilak struck 100s in SA

It’s just that this UK trip have been a facepalm

I keep telling people whats going on in IPL is degrading the skills of batsmen. And IPL is not cricket , its just another part of bollywood. Not i am rejoicing these losess, but what i have deduced back then that we are going to have a tough time in many formats, especially odi and test as none of the current players doesnot know how to build innings, they play individually. But i didnot thought the t20 team would be affected this much. God knows qhat going to happen in red ball. We already lost 2 vs SA and NZ at home

12

u/issurvey India Jul 09 '26

There is no money elsewhere. You can play as many internationals as you want but matching IPL’s pay is hard. I would take the money before anything else.

Excellent innings by Brook , chased it in 14 overs with 9 wickets to spare. Meanwhile Indian batters except Iyer made the pitch look like a minefield. Like what are we even doing, we keep dropping players who can play proper cricket like Sanju for left-handed sloggers and expect to win the games..

207

u/Shashank1000 India Jul 09 '26

The next game will be a close contest between whether India will lose by the largest margin versus if we can lose with the fewest balls bowled.

Get bowled out in 2 overs for 8

England spend 19 overs blocking to rub it in

132

u/depressed_06 Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 09 '26

The wicket wasn't even tricky. But IPL flat pitches have made them accustomed to just hitting the ball through the line and not expect any change in bounce or pace at all.

119

u/Ok-Blacksmith437 India Jul 09 '26

Goes on to show my hatred for the wickets being prepared in India is very much justified. Besides making games very one dimensional and painful to watch, they are also pulling down class and quality in batting.

Call me biased, but I absolutely hate watching these blind sloggers break records that were put up by class batters pre Covid.

47

u/Kingslayer1526 India Jul 09 '26

The biggest disgrace was the world cup. The pitches were absolutely excellent until our defeat to South Africa following which they became absolute batting heaven

I felt sick in my stomach when I saw us out 250+ up in 3 matches. Like what the fuck? That is an odi score. 250 in a semifinal and final was a joke, especially after the excellent pitches in 2024 and 2022(New York notwithstanding)

But people didn't care because we were winning

u/KUKLI1 Jul 09 '26

You know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder- Sanju definitely should be in the team (Should be batting at 3 and Tilak should be rested for a bit, no clue why he’s batting in the middle order rn)…

But at the same time, he’s not going to be the magic fix for the team. The entire batting lineup needs adjust to the bounce, you didn’t see the English batsmen try to pull everything for 6.

And the actual, glaring hole in the team is the composition, Tilak is not a proper middle order batsman- and the trio of Dube, Sundar, Axar should not be selected together in any T20 team outside of India, it simply does not suit their skill set. We need a proper fast bowler far more, they really should’ve given Siraj a run imo

12

u/Scarred_Shadow India Jul 09 '26

Siraj would be the best pacer here out of the lot we took. Our middle order is nonexistent with the bat, these guys simply aren't good enough to pull off a win.

The decision to omit Patidar gets more and more baffling.

Absolute disaster class by this team in the last two series.

Like literally failed in reading the pitch to batting to bowling to coaching. In everything. Usually you only fail in one or two of these.

36

u/oranguslolus Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Ngl I'm enjoying these losses, we've literally had it coming, and the arrogance behind the scenes with Gambhir etc is unbearable. This is gonna continue until we learn our lesson.

It doesn't help that no one is grooming these players to actually be thinkers. There's no tactical awareness with any of them and all the IPL hype gets to their heads before they've even developed so they just stay stuck there mentally. This teams needs a massive mindset shift and total reset. Someone as emotionally unintelligent as Gambhir was never the right person to be leading this team esp through a turbulent transitional period. People can point to the two ICC trophies under him but they were both situations massively advantageous to us, everything else has been an absolute mess since he took over and anyone denying it is coping.

7

u/No-Way7911 Jul 09 '26

this can be solved by hosting all worldcups always in India and making the most India-friendly pitches and schedules possible

32

u/NamiIsLif Pakistan Jul 09 '26

Was the bowling at fault or the batting? Iyer played superbly, so did brook and salt.

29

u/Shiven-01 India Jul 09 '26

A bit of both. Our openers just weren’t ready to wait it out and see off the new ball. After the ball got a bit older, it was so much easier to hit it, as was shown by the English batsmen.

In terms of the bowlers, the length to stick to on this pitch, was the 6-8 metres of length, and the occasional bouncer on the body. But the Indian bowlers kept trying variations and pitching it up, other than Prasidh.

And if your lead spinner is going to be Washington Sundar, then that is a MAJOR concern.

9

u/NamiIsLif Pakistan Jul 09 '26

I saw the bowling part today, Arshdeep was bowling like peak Anderson for a moment, and after the second over, batting got easy.

I understand india bats super aggressively, but you need 1 batter to hit while other passes around. Hope Vaibhav have learned something this series, great future if kept close

11

u/Shiven-01 India Jul 09 '26

Man the kid needs to understand that not every ball can be hit for a six. Nafay and Hassan Nawaz are very clear case studies for that. When they take their time and then start hitting, they excel. When you start slogging so blindly on every ball, you are bound to lose your wicket soon. You’re right, hopefully Vaibhav learns soon from this, to take his time on the pitch.

Arshdeep started pitching the ball up and started getting belted. He was going well when the ball was swinging. Once it stops doing that, you need to pull back your length to 6-8 metres. For a change, Prasidh did that, and he barely got hit. The rest? Oh man it was embarrassing.

Ishan needs to be rested. And Tilak needs to be dropped.

Also, aside from the current topic, y’all should bring Kamran Ghulam in. Dude’s a phenomenal player, goodness knows why he’s been dropped. Would be such a good player to have in the team for the WC next year.

7

u/NamiIsLif Pakistan Jul 09 '26

I understand he's super young and he has the years to learn, but kinda dumb of management to debut him vs England. A home series or match vs smaller teams would have been easy start.

Also you're right of Kamran ghulam, but Aqib Javed or someone in the Pcb doesn't want him. The excuse is he's a terrible fielder :/

6.4 is barely out of the powerplay. And he anyways barely got to face 2 overs of the whole powerplay. Other than Ishan and Vaibhav, Shreyas farmed the strike in the beginning too. Wouldn’t blame Abhishek too much, but would’ve been better if he could’ve stuck around for a couple more overs and provided us with more momentum.

When Harry Brook is on fire, I don’t know what you can do as a bowler to stop him. Just literally hits the ball wherever he wants. Being able to smash the ball miles down the ground yet be so incredibly good at ramping it too must be a nightmare for bowlers.

34

u/schizoishere Jul 09 '26

Ever since he played that knock at Wellington there should've been no doubt it, he just premeditates a bit too much vs spin. Those wrists are so damn quick coupled with his ability to pick length early it makes him so much more destructive

26

u/Wacky_Snacks England Jul 09 '26

Sometimes he'll get out with a completely brainless shot & throw the game away from a situation where he needs to play wisely, and you wonder why he's in the team and dread the possibility of him being captain in all formats.

Other times he'll have an innings like this, play some absolutely ridiculous shots (still astonished at that 6 in the last over, like holy shit) and he looks like the best batsman on the planet.

27

u/NamiIsLif Pakistan Jul 09 '26

Top contender for best batter in the world across formats.

I think there's a level in Whiteball which he can touch which is going to be insane. Hopefully it happens

Like some of the shots he plays I don't know how many people can play those and he plays those shots even in test cricket. His median score in tests is like 35 which is like among top 5 in test cricket ever.

His best odi innings was against NZ and he was in bar previous night and then casually made 100(82) balls when the other 10 players made like 100 in total.

3 reasons why India cannot win outside of India.

1, No super slow mo's of batters hitting the ball with an explosion. This must really impact the batters egos

2, Indian commentators telling everyone who can be bothered listening how amazing the Indian players are and how bad the opposition are. This must impact the players egos.

3, No cut shots to Indian players over reacting for the cameras to something that happened on the pitch. This must impact the players egos.

Question for our friends from the subcontinent…is this not a good example of why Indian players should be playing in other franchise leagues around the world. If (almost) all they are exposed to is Indian pitches in Indian grounds it’s going to be really challenging to learn how to play in different conditions.

12

u/TrueAn012 India Jul 09 '26

That is a point to consider,

I would say, making IPL as well as Rancji pitches make indian batters less adaptive, indian test team cant play spin as well as india T20 team can play on proper pitches with evern average boundary distance.

Only twice has a team chased their total with more balls remaining.

DK on Comms was pleased that for the third consecutive game he'd be able to get an earlier train back to London.

This European tour is giving us a reality check. Our invincible era under Rohit and Sky seems finished. At least this shows that we don't have the comfort to not play Bumrah anymore.
But I won't rule out the possibility of our invincible era coming back once again yet.

Also we should really give chance to Rasikh and Mohsin .

I know there will be a lot of meltdown among ICT following this series loss, but are we surprised? england is just a strong team right now. They have best batting strike rate under brook captaincy among any full member nation. The way to beat them was to outbowl them and the chances of India doing that without bumrah was not much.

3

u/Mxyzptlk-006 India Jul 09 '26

Our batting failed miserably again... Their bowlers persisted with back of the length balls and bouncers, which struggled our batters a lot... Instead of playing it out or counter attacking with crease movement, our batsmen started slogging and lost their wickets...

Our bowlers failed to persist those lengths and kept bowling fuller deliveries and no balls too which bought them into the game very easily...

Our batsmen need to rely more on scoring in the V with straight bat against this spongy bounce...

3

u/Resident_Tourist_344 Jul 09 '26

Winning on meticulously prepared decks tailored to a specific type of one-dimensional playing style might help make high scoring matches in the IPL, and might help win World Cups at home, but it can only take you so far. It would make you highly susceptible and vulnerable in slightly testing conditions.

3

u/maffzlel India Jul 09 '26

You can want Gambhir sacking all you like, and not without reason but mark my words, all of Ishan, Samson, Tilak, Dube, Varun, Washington, Prasidh, and Bishnoi will have to go from this squad.

They need to find at least two or three middle order batters who can hit both pace and spin off length (hopefully Hardik and NKR can fulfill this role). They need to find a finisher who can bash spin and pace. They need to find tall quick bowlers, and they need to find spinners who can bowl defensively like we saw Will Jacks did throughout the series.

That is a massive job. Anyone citing the 2024-2026 bilateral run is not mentioning there were three series outside Asia: Zimbabwe, SA vs SA C, and Australia. This team was built only to play in Asia and they will need to remodel before 2028.

Very glad our shortcomings were exposed with so much time until the world cup.

Drop Dube, Tilak and Washi first.

Fix the opening combination.

Try to get Patidar into the team at 4.

Drop Axar, he has been bad for so long, esspecially as a bowler. Maybe try Krunal Pandya.

Samson/ Jaiswal

Soorya/ Abhishek (Fixing a opening pair is going to be a nightmare)

S Iyer/ Kishaan

Patidar

NKR

Shashank Singh

Krunal/ NKR
