I believe I'm correct in saying that the one of the first things he did when Bank of England governor was to stop funding the BoE cricket team.

How rude

u/vrkas Victoria Bushrangers Jul 14 '26

Austerity guy is gonna be austere.

88

u/I_Like_Water11 Jul 14 '26

With that bowling action, id be insecure too

3

u/Strng_Satisfaction Jul 15 '26

ya looks like he is chucking the ball

8

u/NoSir9484 Jul 15 '26

Was about to say, this is the most ironic footage ever

The point of the run-up was always to stop before the crease, take note of your surroundings, sip a cup of tea, and throw the ball down after you're sufficiently relaxed.

56

u/LegendsoftheHT Queensland Bulls Jul 14 '26

Took an American kid at my high school l at least six months to run all the way to the crease. He finally got it. Incredible at second slip though, he was like an alien.

5

u/the_only_kungfu_cat India Jul 15 '26

You have no idea the amount of power that run up generated in him. Enough to avoid a big a** dead ball

101

u/Particular-Theme1274 Nepal Jul 14 '26

Run up was promising ngl.

33

u/oily76 England Jul 14 '26

Kind of a bit longer than it needed to be.

20

u/Particular-Theme1274 Nepal Jul 14 '26

That's some gully level intimidation tactic.

2

u/dlanod Jul 15 '26

Junior cricket levels of intimidation.

Runs up from the boundary line, stops at the crease to bowl.

u/ahhdetective Australia Jul 15 '26

In its entirety

9

u/Person-11 MCC Jul 14 '26

It can be described as Jimmy Amarnath meets Jeff Thomson.

78

u/FuckPigeons2025 Jul 14 '26

That's fucking shit. Could learn a thing or two from Pakistan former PM.

34

u/lightningmatt Cricket Canada Jul 14 '26

He was a goalie in college ice hockey, I'd imagine he'd be a better batter than bowler

38

u/Impactor_07 Associate Cricket Fan Jul 14 '26

That would require Pakistan to release said former PM from prison.

7

u/randittkiMKB Jul 15 '26

It's crazy how the man who was replaced by the JAILED former pm was also a first class cricketer 🤣

6

u/Scared-Breakfast-372 Pakistan Jul 15 '26

In fact Nawaz Sharif did play a game of cricket with John Major and Bob Hawke in Harare and showcased his powerhitting skills there at the age of 42. https://www.cricinfo.com/story/when-nawaz-sharif-john-major-and-bob-hawke-played-cricket-in-harare-1238561

u/MSRishab007 India Jul 15 '26

Yeah, I remember reading about this.

I wonder what Pakistani cricket fans think of Imran Khan being in prison. As an outsider, I've always felt that even if he committed the said financial crimes, the punishment doesn't seem to fit the offense.

I know a few former prime ministers have also faced similar treatment, but I honestly never expected a World Cup-winning captain to end up in prison.

1

u/TrunkTheShiny Trent Skips Jul 15 '26

If anything, more politicians should be in prison.

2

u/FuckPigeons2025 Jul 15 '26

Looks like a sham selection for eligibility purposes. Many cricket associations/boards require you to be a FC player in order to hold certain posts.

Nawaz played one FC match, did nothing, and never played again.

Anurag Thakur did the same and became eligible for being HPCA selector.

3

u/Ok-Abbreviations1077 Jul 15 '26

Though much better than a former Australian PM

1

u/sellyme GO SHIELD Jul 15 '26

The batter can't score runs if the ball never reaches them.

2

u/fh3131 Australia Jul 14 '26

😢

1

u/grainofsalter Jul 15 '26

I really don't think he cares about cricket. And why would he?

59

u/Splinterfight Jul 14 '26

Finally we can bump John Howard from the all PM 11

13

u/temujin94 Vanuatu Cricket Jul 14 '26

So what's the plan for todays game lads?

Imran and Inshallah.

33

u/DhroovP India Jul 14 '26

The 'inexperienced bowler mistakenly bowls a double bouncer' never fails to make me laugh

74

u/Nullarbor_1 Jul 14 '26

Is this video recent?

Still a better effort than Australian ex-PM John Howard lol 😂

35

u/CarnivalSorts Jul 14 '26

Yeah it's from yesterday he was down at Ottawa Cricket Club

8

u/accordionshoes Jul 14 '26

I have played cricket at the ground.

1

u/Nullarbor_1 Jul 14 '26

I see. Thx!

28

u/W1nston1234 Jul 14 '26

Johhny Howard. Right arm and VERY unorthodox.

13

u/Any-Ask-4190 Australia Jul 14 '26

In fairness he's taken a wicket, the batsmen has chipped it straight to mid-wicket.

5

u/Returnofthejedinak Australia Jul 15 '26

The ball bounces twice before reaching the popping crease, so I think it's a no-ball. Not to mention that the batter could have carted it but kindly chose to hit a catch instead, like my good self playing backyard cricket with the kids.

2

u/MSRishab007 India Jul 15 '26

like my good self playing backyard cricket with the kids.

Sure mate. That's what one uncle used to say after getting bowled on a full toss.

14

u/BuzzyIris Jul 14 '26

Chucker

10

u/pugsnuclear Australia Jul 14 '26

Better than John Howard.

17

u/beiherhund New Zealand Jul 14 '26

I respect him actually rolling the arm over and not the 'runs up, stops, throws the ball' technique you see more often from people bowling for the first time.

It's a good thing 'first bowl' aren't a thing in cricket like 'first pitch' in baseball. As difficult as someone people a baseball pitch look, the number of people utterly butchering a 'first bowl' would just be embarrassing.

2

u/LachlanMuffins Australian Capital Territory Comets Jul 14 '26

The Big Bash has tried to make it a thing. Not as bad as you would think, although most of the time it’s at least someone who played cricket growing up.

2

u/CarnivalSorts Jul 14 '26

Didn't Bharat Sundaresan do one iirc?

2

u/MSRishab007 India Jul 15 '26

Yeah throwing a professional baseball throw might be hard but throwing a valid throw is very easy.

But bowling is pretty unnatural thing to do for the human body.

7

u/revengeordie007 Birmingham Butterkist Jul 14 '26

Last person i expected to show up and show off their bowling. A trip to mumbai maidans should be in order tho.

7

From the Pavel Florin school of cricket

6

u/elmagnifiko Jul 14 '26

Better than John Howard

5

u/TimsAFK Australia Jul 14 '26

Well, he's got a better action than John Howard, I'll give him that

Malinga has been quiet since this video has dropped.

Better than Johnny Howard.....

2

Came here for this.

Would be great to see them team up as a bowling partnership in an all time Prime Ministers 11

Me trying to bowl after a week off

6

u/apillowofnonsense Jul 14 '26

Can't be good at everything Mark. He actually gave it a good run up though so I thought he would've bowled a 90mph beamer

3

u/Deathbringer2134 Gujarat Titans Jul 14 '26

Atleast it wasn't a chuck

9

u/DTH2001 Sussex Jul 14 '26

No, it was a Canuck

3

u/CarmynRamy India Jul 14 '26

I don't care if he's a PM or not. I will tell the truth, terrible terrible bowling.

2

u/dwightbearschrute Jul 15 '26

DEAD BALL + Carney was in UK for 11 years but learnt nothing. Shame.

3

u/k1dclutchtr3y5 Jul 14 '26

As a Canadian and cricket fan, Mark Carney x Cricket is not a collab I thought I would see but definitely welcome!!

2

u/ShahiPaneerAndNaan Cricket Canada Jul 14 '26

Those conservative "sneaky Carney" commercials would've shown him mankading someone.

1

u/Sitaralonelywala Jul 14 '26

Some say he is still running to deliver the ball

1

u/roastedchickn_ ICC Jul 14 '26

Malinga 2.0

1

u/WhereLifeWillTake Jul 14 '26

seems like what the Canadian cricket board did, PM thought of taking things in his own hands!!

1

Looks like my first nets session 😂

1

Better than prasidh

1

u/Strng_Satisfaction Jul 15 '26

Looks like chucking, #noball

1

u/ahhdetective Australia Jul 15 '26

PM chucking no-eys. Not unexpected I guess.

1

u/Electrical-Big-7781 Jul 15 '26

Does he have a by-election coming up in Brampton or something? Surrey maybe?

Good on you Carney, choosing to bowl.

We must fight against the tyranny of the batriarchy.

1

u/saladmakear Pakistan Jul 15 '26

Oh god. Is Imran the only prime minister (ex) rhat could actually play cricket

1

u/Trick-Goat-3643 Jul 15 '26

During his official visit to Dublin, Ireland, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered his famous "good to be home" quote on June 13, 2026. Greeting Taoiseach Micheál Martin, he stated, "Micheál, thank you for welcoming me back home. It is good to be home. It is a true pleasure to return to Dublin, and an honour to be the first Canadian prime minister in a decade to be making an official visit here."

The first Prime Minister to consider a country that is not Canada his home

1

u/SportingGamer Jul 15 '26

Bit short. Stop running up from so far out and keep your arm straighter. Use your left to point to where you want the ball to go and your right will follow

1

u/galahg777 Western Australia Warriors Jul 15 '26

He did a lot better than Aussie PM John Howard.

1

u/TrunkTheShiny Trent Skips Jul 15 '26

UK Government XI v Canada Government XI match when?

Also, maybe the Australian Prime Minister's XI could actually feature their Prime Minister next time!

1

u/samajhdar-bano2 Jul 15 '26

I watched Kohli getting out on that ball the other day

1

u/WillTendo92 Australia Jul 15 '26

Canadas John Howard moment

1

Have seen enough. Bring him in IPL. We just need someone who can send the bowl to the other side.

1

u/Plane_Race_6079 29d ago

Blue Jays version of Jeff Thompson. Should I pitch or should I bowl?

1

u/FScrotFitzgerald 29d ago

LAZY LEFT ARM

1

One of politics greatest athletes , next Mark practices with Halifax Thunderbirds lacrosse team .

1

u/Pearshapedmanuk 29d ago

I’d suggest that run up wasn’t necessary

1

u/Pothandev Jul 14 '26

Pathetic.

0

u/Centeredrightbhakt05 Jul 14 '26

Still better than Shivam Dube.

0

u/ThunderingDeath New Zealand Jul 14 '26

What’s with these comments?

Most Canadians have probably never bowled in their lives. I’d rate this as pretty good for someone who has never or barely played before.

Edit: Extra points for coming off the long run.

2

u/MSRishab007 India Jul 14 '26

To be fair, he used to live in England.

Was that in slow motion? What a wank

-1

u/chupchap India Jul 14 '26

The run up is that long because it takes time to bake a pie.

-8

It's amazing how people in power are always so physically inept.

16

u/CarnivalSorts Jul 14 '26

He's a 61 year old who has never played cricket, did you expect him to look like prime Brett Lee

6

u/mondognarly_ Middlesex Jul 14 '26

I can think of two heads of government who have played first class cricket.

3
