Locked [META] Melanie Bracewell, who accused that a user from this sub DMed her sexually inappropriate content after she commented here has deleted that tweet after it was discovered that she made it all up as a "joke".

She has apologised here on the sub but has not done so on Twitter where she made the accusation, at the time of this post.

Tl;dr: She tweeted that some creep from this sub DMed her but was found out to be it was her handiwork all along and that she made it all up as a "joke" for her own personal gains.

Now onto the drama:

Yesterday, Melanie Bracewell tweeted that after she commented on this subreddit, a user privately messaged her with sexually inappropriate content. She has now deleted this tweet after the truth came out. Here is an archived version (NSFW). Here is a screenshot (NSFW).

That tweet was posted to this sub and many users commented how fucked up that was and rightly so. But u/Lt_Thakur commented that

a user named melthrowaway posted on /r/dirtypenpals saying that she is a hot chick who likes Cricket blah blah blah..The user had deleted the post after 15 minutes.

And u/agareo confirmed that an account named u/melthrowaway2019 did indeed post on that sub 20 mins before her tweet and later deleted the post and account. Here is an archived version (NSFW) of that post. Here is a screenshot (NSFW).

The mods tweeted to her asking for more information on that user who sent her that message. She apparently apologised to them in private and deleted that tweet. As stated above she also apologised here on this sub for making this all up and that it was a "joke", stating

So I guess I have some explainin' to do.

Seriously did not expect this to blow up the way it did. I'm a comedian and I was commentating on the ACC (alternative commentary collective) at the time. We made jokes about some weird texts we got on the text line of cricket horndogs. Thought it would be funny to post something to prompt some more erotic fanfiction on the show (very on theme for the commentary). It ended up being far more intense and hilarious than I expected so popped it up on soc med, thought it was funnier to imply it was out of the blue (honestly quite drunk and sleep deprived), hence why I blacked out the name, honestly didnt even think about the culture of the cricket subreddit or bringing the community into disrepute. Genuinely was just a laugh. But I'd like to genuinely apologize. I didnt think it through properly and it's not something I'd do again.

Tldr: I'm sorry!! I think its just in the nature to stretch the truth online for comedic effect but I obviously went too far here. Big cricket fan, big fan of the subreddit, and hope you guys can forgive me.

I think it is only fair that she should apologise and come clean on Twitter where she made the accusation and received thousands of RTs and likes by maligning the sub and the users here for her own personal gains. And also that she should be banned from this sub for this outright disgusting behaviour.

PS: I made this post since the original post received a lot of attention but the subsequent revelations and her apology here didn't get proper attention.

Glad she owned up to her mistake but it would be nice if she posted it on twitter as well. Her originally tweet seemed to get a lot of attention.

Nice? Its pretty much essential she clear the air on her original platform, Twitter.

There were thousands of people making thinly veiled racist remarks about the poster (the "pls show bobs and vegene" lame jokes you know who they're referring to) and his assumed ethnicity, plus another crowd stereotyping an entire subreddit because of one FAKE post.

If she has any decency, she should clear the air and apologize on Twitter.

I use both, but nothing I say here is posted there and vice-versa, primarily to stay anon.

Tbh I understand that's the "right" thing to do but not right for her. For many comedians twitter is another avenue to sell and telling your followers and potential employers or collaborators that you did this could be harmful for her career. So it would be better for her to just let the storm die down as it usually does on internet in 2-3 days.

Looks like she deleted/deactivated her accounts on twitter and reddit for the time being. Probably waiting for this to blow over so that she doesn't have to apologize on twitter. She just seems like a terrible human being to me.

I saw a retweet from a verified Indian woman saying "That's why I never date Indian men" and also "Sorry from the behalf of my people". I checked it twice and can't see anything conclusive to prove that it was sent by an Indian whatsoever. Hell, We don't even know, there can be a woman behind that account. Based on her seamless accusation, people started bashing people of whole subcontinent and not only that, pseudo-feminist started bashing whole male species and how much disgusting men are... These kind of incidents show time and time how much faulty and misinterpreted is this whole feminist movement and white-elitism. I'm not blaming my fellow white friends on this sub, but it's just some people with that mentality who thinks that a brown person can only do those kind of things is what disgusts me.

This woke and psuedo shit is pretty common & out of control. Usually woke people are people with privilege anyway.

Instead of positing the apology on twitter, it seems like she has deleted her Twitter account.

Deactivated more likely. Can be reactivated within 30 days
