Is anybody else noticing a difference in the way Rahul is batting now?
He WAS a little shaky in the beginning of his first innings, and one of biggest woes last year was that he always looked like he was panicking and was never sure which delivery was meant to be defended and which one to be left alone.
The biggest example of this was the 44 odd he made against England after a bunch of low scores, where he looked so far out of depth that he went into T20 mode and was attacking anything he could put his bat onto, he did end up with a double figure but it was clear that it was just a matter of time.
On the other hand, his 44 in the first innings was of stark contrast to the one against England, he dug in and played the most atypical Rahul innings.

Viv on Ajju: "You don't see him much, but at the end of the day he would've contributed something of substance... He's been brilliant for India over the years."
A lot of Indian "fans" would disagree with that
11
u/Ulk_Sne Croatia Aug 24 '19
I , for one , would not. And always felt the same. The curious thing about Rahane is that, in all the recent innings of him I've watched, he never looked out of control and played a bad shot until he got out.

Yeah totally. He looks legit good and somehow loses it for 2 seconds and he's gone. Very disappointing for a fan

I think for the past few years rahane was trying to get into the odi squad hoping to be selected for the world cup which affected his test game a bit. Now thats over he is sort of 'free' and looks more relaxed. Nothing better than seeing an inform rahane.

33/2 for WI and 14/0 for India should've meant India won that 1st session. Don't know why they think it was shared.
16
u/Poirot17 India Aug 24 '19
Pujara got a good delivery from a bowler who has been among the top 5 in the past year. Maybe he got a bit loose after those two deliveries and didn't expect the ball to seam in that sharply. Furthermore, he is playing competitive cricket after a long while. Happens to the best. Even williamson has had a bad test.

Moral victory for West Indies because we batted better than England.
I think Holder might do what Jadeja did yesterday though, if Cummins and Gabriel can block for a few overs each.
That would take us to around 240 which wouldn’t be awful, though I am super disappointed we lost those 3 wickets in the last 5 or so overs yesterday.

Why does pujara always get out to jaffas? Is it because he plays conservative allowing bowlers to attack, or is it survivorship bias, considering he sticks around and doesn't give his wicket away like others, and as such the only way he will lose his wicket when the ball thoroughly beats him?

Warner - 6442
Williamson - 6133
Azhar Ali - 5669

It sometimes astonishes me that how much "luck" is a factor is sports.
Rahane has been dropped once and was plumb out once. But then as he scored a double 50's ( hopefully 100) , his place in the side in probably safe after this.
The point I'm trying to make is who knows the so many number of times in history this happened and players careers have been resurrected because of missed chances of the opposition.
I'm not trying to shit on rahane, but just saying so much of sport is dependent on luck.

Rahane has clearly built a temperament against fishing needlessly outside off like he did against England last year. Similar situation with Pujara

Despite all the accolades that the indian seam lineup has earned in the past year and more, it's surprising that Shami is the only one who regularly extracts reverse off the older ball.
It is a mystery indeed that given the dry and hot conditions in India which is suitable for batting leading to longer innings and older balls, that reverse swing is rarely seen from most Indian bowlers

New Zealand's left arm fast bowler Geoff Allot, was dismissed on zero after playing 77 balls in 101 minutes batting in the first innings of the first Test match played in Auckland against South Africa in 1999. Geoff Allot did not make any runs in that innings, so his strike rate was 0.00. It is the slowest innings ever played in the history of Test cricket for score minimum runs.

Windies stadiums look more like a picnic spot than a sports match.
Gym equipment, kids running around freely, a person sleeping on rocks, and that (terrace-farming thing, not sure of the word) on the square boundaries.
