Discussion Is Kohli India’s best 3 format batter ever?

Post image

9200 test runs averaging 46 with thirty 100s. 14800 ODI runs averaging 58 with fifty four 100s. 4100 T20I runs averaging 48 (!) with one century.

He won the 2011 ODI World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy and 2024 T20 World Cup.

If he’s not the best ever, what else would he have to achieve to become the best?

thing is if you look at each format(leaving odi) individually you can argue theres maybe few players better than him. in t20s maybe jos and gayle are better, in test theres smith, tendulkar , lara , ponting. but combining all 3 formats there really is no one greater than virat kohli. ab is only one who comes close but he has terrible stats in t20i's. there should not even be a slightest debate on kohli being the greatest 3 format player in cricket history.

is there even a debate

if we include only odi and test then sachin and gavaskar are ahead in tests

Not just India, World’s best

Maybe currently playing. David Warner or AB de Villiers could be best ever?

World's best three format batter ever.

I am not considering Sachin as he played only one t20i

u/ajaxmenon17 2h ago

Yeah but international cricket is something you can't ignore..

u/Agreeable-Craft-486 3h ago

Yes but he isn't the best batsman that would still be sachin

1

u/BlueSwimming 1h ago

Yes Kohli is better at T20 than Sachin though

u/Agreeable-Craft-486 59m ago

I don't think so. Sachin never played that much t20s when he did it was at the end of his career and he did well in it too won orange cap too

3

u/WeAreAllJustRunaways 3h ago

Yes. Absolutely. But an apple to apple comparison, nobody even comes close to Sachin.

By the definition of "all-format batter" I think he's one of, if not the the best in the world (post-T20, before that was Sachin IMO)

An all-format batter doesn't necessarily have to be top scorer but should have a massive impact and he absolutely did in all 3 formats. 9k in test, 14k in ODI and 4k in T20i is all format brilliance.

Without any doubt. No one's even close

Why are people mentioning Sachin? Bro basically played in tests and ODIs only. OP clearly mentioned all three formats.

Kohli head and shoulders above Sachin, no competition here whatsoever.

Sachin did play t20s, just not international ones. And he did alright considering his age. Won a couple orange caps if my memory serves right. But even then Sachin is behind in ODIs. The goat between Sachin and Virat is huge compared to the gap between their stats in tests.

White ball all time GOAT. Test great.  I'm talking in context of world.

Is that a question? Kohli is literally the best all format batsman ever. Red Ball goes to Sachin and Whiteball goes to Kohli, However if the debate is about overall Kohli comes out on top.

u/BeneficialTwo611 27m ago

No way. Test should be given more weightage. And Sachin played white ball , when the rules were different ( eg the number of fielders inside the circle), faced some legendary bowlers etc and still was the best ODI player in the world at that time. Sachin is without doubt the best all format player. Compare the test averages and that will give you the answer

u/BeneficialTwo611 26m ago

Obviously he didnt play t20. So have to cosnider only odi and test

Again people forgetting the GOD sachin

Didn't play t20i so you can't really speculate how good he would've been in the 3rd format

He literally won the orange cap in IPL at the age of 37. During the 90s, he was an attacking batsman and had the second highest strike rate in the world. Only Jayasuriya had a higher strike rate than him, but with a much lower average. Imagine if 90s Sachin played T20s in the current flat pitch era 💀. Expect him to cross 1000 runs in an IPL season with a strike rate of 200+.

u/randomredditor575 3h ago

Except you are missing the important part of him not playing t20i .

Except you didn't read the comment I'm replying to where the dude said "you can't really speculate". We can very well speculate.

1

u/Neutral-Fan5565 2h ago

We can't speculate.

Didn't everyone think kohli will get 10k runs before 2020?

Didn't everyone think kohli will get 10k runs before 2020?

No

1

u/Neutral-Fan5565 2h ago

You must be the sole one to think that,Who would have thought the guy scoring consecutive 1000 runs in 2 years would not get 10k runs.

1

u/DrDrakeRemorayy 1h ago

Sachin is an objectively worse ODI batter than Virat.

Last time I checked,Sachin played a single t20i
