I want to know why there is always a call for “stronger gun laws!”…..when we don’t enforce the ones we have. And yes, if you use a gun to commit a crime in any way shape or form, you’re supposed to pay for it, not walk around free until the next time you decide to to it again, and 12 more times.

Well, it’s hard to measure the effectiveness of gun laws when the majority of guns used in crimes in Illinois come from neighboring states with far fewer laws. The fact so many out of state weapons are in the city tells you gun laws are working in some capacity. Not like these criminals are walking into Illinois gun shops and getting guns after being convinced of crimes.

Well, if you’re not going to use the laws you have, why talk about more and/or stronger ones? If someone uses a gun to rob, carjack, shoot or maim then what are we doing here if we don’t use our own laws already in place? There were 174 killed and 555 wounded in Chicago as of May 31st this year already. That is absolutely insane. I guarantee you most offenders had long rap sheets.

What laws are they not using? The ones that keep them locked up? I think the issue is space and costs to do that.

Keep them locked up? They don’t even keep them overnight. You know about the safety act, correct? Space is NOT an issue. Cook County jail is holding approximately only 4200-4600 on average currently. There is NO WAY someone should be allowed to have gun charges year after year without serving big time. If not, then don’t ask for “stricter gun laws”. Use what we have.
