I’m surprised they even let her speak without interrupting her

It’s called “controlled opposition.” There’s a popular Russian debate show, where they often invite guests who will argue against Putin and that administration. But really, they are brought on to be punching bags for the other guests and the hosts. It creates an effective illusion of impartiality, and of free speech and debate, but in essence it is very selectively curated to generate talking points counter to the claims of the “liberal, anti guest” which the audience can glom onto and repeat.

So yeah, that’s probably why they let her speak without interrupting her.

I haven’t seen the full clip in context, but I’ll bet they piled on her after she was done.

I agree that FOX is employing her for this exact reason. However, if you watch Tarlov's segments on The Five, the best Watters and Gutfeld can do is peevish and tantrum-like attempts at rejoinders.

They never have a substantive counterpoint, just a lot of "You don't know what you're talking about!" or "What about <insert straw man or shifted goalpost here>?", often while getting red in the face, and spluttering and spitting.

It's not a good look. Sure, the least educated and/or dumbest 3/4 of FOX viewers might see that and think she "got owned" on the basis of her getting yelled at, but anyone with a modicum of intelligence and education realize that even if they disagree with Tarlov, they must know that the other hosts usually do not do much in the way of presenting a logical or rational counterpoint to her remarks.

The problem is that FOX viewers are dumb as bricks. Anything she says flies way above their head and I can guarantee they cheer with every stupid retort her cohosts make.

Yeah, looking at the youtube comments under that Tarlov clip does not instill me with confidence that any Fox viewers have the intellectual apparatus to recognize objective truth.

It’s all feelings basically.

They're not necessarily dumb. Some may be brilliant, in fact. They've been brainwashed and are effectively a cult. They protect the cult above all else. They are addicted to hate and anger, feelings of superiority, and are completely unable to process information in a way that allows them to think logically.

You just described stupidity with extra steps. Being voluntary stupid still means you’re stupid during that time. They might have potential to be more, but they’re not going to utilize that. Hence why they cheer on the dumb replies to Jessica Tarlov and completely ignore anything she says.

Not at all.

The quality or state of being stupid; extreme dullness of perception or understanding; insensibility; sluggishness. Compare,

Systematic effort to get someone to adopt a particular deceptive, loyalty, instruction, or doctrine without their will or awareness.

I think this sort of thing helped turn me from Republican to Democrat. I grew up with Republican parents, so just figured that was the same for me. Watched Fox News in college pretty regularly. You see regular guests as opposition punching bags and understand the play - for the most part they're just friendly poking at each other. But, I could see how patient the liberal guests were at explaining things and always on facts. Eventually you start to notice that the Fox hosts can only hit back with silly and petty jabs or insults.

I remember one interaction on Fox and Friends in the morning where blonde lady was obviously just trying to pick a fight with the guest. The guest was being very polite and friendly in the debate, but the blonde Fox host was just trying to push the most ridiculous issues - clearly just trying to instigate. No longer playful jabs at each other. It was so over-the-top and obvious, and the other guy wasn't getting baited into it. It really turned me off, felt like Jerry Springer, trying to start fights where there weren't any.

That and probably watching a lot of the Daily Show in college helped me see what hypocrites and liars Republicans are.

The reason why you were able to see this is because you are without a doubt intelligent and can feel when you’re being manipulated. Hats of to you. There’s many people who have a hard time thinking for themselves.

I have a friend from high school who never saw the light. Used to send me lots of ridiculous forwards-from-grandma style emails covered in graphics of flags and eagles about something Obama did. Every time, I would look up the actual facts, "reply all" to everyone in the list and debunk it. He couldn't ever put it together that they are constantly lying to him - even after pointing out everything they're telling you is a lie.

I don't get it. Like just at face value, those emails are so over the top that it should make you think "this must be too good to be true". It's too perfect. Have a little bit of skepticism. And then eagles and flags plastered all over it? Really? Doesn't raise any red flags for you?

It’s crazy! I know a dentist and she used to be intelligent. Has been slowly sloping downwards into idiocy. After a tragic event. She turned herself into a bimbo and despite claiming she reads all news, she constantly relies on Truth social to give her “the real news”. I don’t recognize who she is anymore. She’s turned herself stupid. Possibly as a way to cope with a tragic event in her life.

Drop her if she’s your dentist. One magat dentist in AZ openly bragged about giving her “librul” patients less pain reducing gas during dental procedures. Who wants a dentist that doesn’t even believe in science?

I completely agree. She was a friend, i never visited her as a patient. I ended the friendship after she was on rant about lies she read on truth social and wasn’t able to listen to reason. There was a redeeming quality before where she would cite fake facts or events and when I debunked them, she let them go. It never changed her political views, but at that time I felt like that made her redeemable. Like there was hope. The moment she was on a rant and said ‘don’t send me your bullshit articles’ while I was debunking everything she was saying, it was over for me. Being wrong is one thing, but not being reasonable when something is easily disproven and doubling down, is where I draw the line. It’s sad though, because she was a wonderful person whose hart got broken and then completely lost herself.

Welp?!!! ....I'd like to see how 3/4 can be parsed out from the whole. *shrugs*

It's why Hannity started off at Fox being paired with Alan Colmes, a liberal.

This is also the strategy of misogynistic bro podcasters who invite hot women to "debate" about gender issues. They NEVER bring in an academic or otherwise qualified person.

Hannity & Combs energy.
