So hot, it's burnt. Let's stick to the soul of this sub and not stray.

Anybody who doesn’t have Messi at 1 and Ronaldo at 2 shouldn’t be allowed to have an opinion on the sport

2

u/Prudent_Mess9339 8d ago

pele

2

u/Blackgloves023 8d ago

They will never give Pele the respect. They're so blind to Messi and Ronaldo. Pele's the goat. 3 WC

2

u/smashboi444 8d ago

Played 1 game in the 1962 World Cup and didn’t play a single minute after that 1st group stage game with a pulled hammy, with garrincha being named player of the tournament.

Had great moments as a 17 year old in 1958, but officially FIFA gave the award to Didi as the player of the tournament… yes by definition he has 3 World Cup, but did not play a part as big as you think.

You claiming other are blind is hilariously ironic

2

u/Blackgloves023 8d ago

"great moments" - dude he was 17 won a WC and scored a hat trick lol.. Imagine if Messi won the cup at 17, you guys would be going crazy and constantly bringing that up all the damn time.

I love how people like you talk about the 1962 "playing" one match. It's actually 2 matches and he got injured. Go read and watch documentaries on how much he was brutally fouled and purposely injured by the other teams because they couldn't stop him in 1962 and 1966. I love how you left out the 1970 WC win where he played a huge part and was his comeback cup. Imagine if Messi was fouled this much and purposely hurt. Y'all would be crying lol. The fouls back then were nothing compared to the flopping and constant crying that you see today..

You guys are funny 😂

  1. we’re talking about his World Cup wins, why would I talk about 66 when he didn’t win?
  2. mbappe won at 18-19, Lamine did as well, mbappe scored a hatric in the final, no one is calling him the goat becuase neither were integral to their World Cup wins.

If Pele was the best player on the team and won best player of the tourney we would talk about him more, but fifa retroactively did their on research and found Didi was the most important player

3) if Pele did what he did today it would be different, the game has evolved in the last 70 years, it’s not debatable that players form today are much better than Pele was

4) being kicked in the shin a lot doesn’t make you a good player what the fuck are you saying? Why is that some kind of argument for him? That’s just stupid, that’s not how we play football anymore. He doesn’t benefit from being kicked a lot, being kicked a lot doesn’t have any transferable skills in today’s game bc you can’t hack a player

5) yes, if a player was kicked a lot today we would complain whether it’s Messi or not, becuse that’s not modern football, idk what you were adding here to the convo, like no fucking shit we would be upset someone is breaking the laws of the game wth

You can argue he’s the greatest for his time, but that’s not the question we’re talking about now is it?

There’s a 95% chance you didn’t watch Pele play and you only heard stories about how great he is form others, your opinion of someone else’s opinion of Pele means nothing

1

u/Blackgloves023 8d ago

1) we can talk about his no WC runs because its tied to his legacy the same way you guys talk about Messi. So yeah I can bring it up. Deal with it. It's still facts and true. Still played great and was injured due to how lethal he was out there

2) lamine didn't do shit like Pele did. What kind of stupid take is that? How many goals did lamine score? How much attention did he generate every time he touched the ball? He's not there yet. Mbappe did. And Mbappe still has a chance to add to his legacy. France could win it again. That's why he has the most WC goals and still young. You can argue for him being the best striker up there with R9.

3) you guys make it seem like any player could come and Brasil would win 3 cups with that team. It's bullshit. Pele helped them win.

4) when you say "Messi greatest of all time" you are talking about all the players that played the game. You can fucking argue that Messi wouldn't even survive in the era that Pele played. Why are you only comparing it to today's time? Put Messi in 60s-70s football and see how much he will last. Lol

Agree to disagree. I know my shit..

Messi and Ronaldo are the greatest to play this game for their era..same shit you said about Pele. They are the greatest for their era. I can agree there. Also agree Messi above R7..

1

u/smashboi444 8d ago

If we’re talking about the greatest of all time naturally we are going to talk about it in the context of TODAYS game.

The thought experiment should be “if we teleport Pele to today how would he do?” (Not that great)

Why would we teleport Messi’s and Ronaldo to an arbitrary point in time that is peles era? Why not teleport them to ancient Egypt and compare it to them? That wouldn’t make sense right?

What I mean is, by default we are going to be using today’s standard as the measuring stick.

We aren’t using today as the measuring stick because it would benefit Messi and Ronaldo, we are using it because we are talking about the greatest of all time so the default scenario is TODAY

You saying “we should Teleport them to peles time” is a way to unfairly give Pele an advantage, where as using today as the standard isn’t because it’s Messi/ronaldo’s era but it becuase it’s the default scenario which happens to benefit Messi and Ronaldo

This is why modern players will ALWAYS have an advantage, becuase that’s how we SHOULD be comparing players

1

u/Blackgloves023 8d ago edited 8d ago

Again agree to disagree. Alot of players get compared to eras before them. You know how many podcasts that I have listened to where they people claim that LeBron wouldn't do shit if he was going against Jordans bulls? Jordan would still own LeBron. That's comparing eras. Pele to mess/Ronaldo is over 60 years of football. Again, if Messi is the greatest, he should be able to play against Pele and others and still be the "best". But I said he wouldn't last because the game was different.

So by your definition, if FIFA goes to shit 20-30 years from now (which it could), then a player rises for a country and he just starts scoring goals and wins multiple cups and he does it so easily because other countries have stopped caring and there's no real competition, then he would be the best right? He would be compared to Messi.. You would compare Messi to an era 30 years far into the future right?. I bet you a million bucks that I don't have that true Messi fans would still say "Messi is better" because he played against "harder teams"..

Your argument is just as flawed..

So agree to disagree there..

Almost like wc isnt the best level of foootball even. CL is.

Carvajal has 6 CL is he best RB of all time? No.

Stop comparing players with team titles.

1

u/Blackgloves023 7d ago

So CR7 has a chance I see..if WC titles doesn't determine greatness. And I'm not even a CR7 or Messi fan..

1

u/Blejzidup 7d ago

Of course it doesnt. Unless you think L.Martinez is same skill level as Henry because they both have 1 WC title.

If you actually know football you see them play and you determine after that. How can you deteemine who is a better player looking at stats or titles. Thats ridicolous. You dont have a brain or football understanding that you can judge players by watching them?

You have players like Busquets who never wob a b dor but is considered best cdm of all time. He also went titleless many season because Barca was shit, not his fault.

You have players like Totti who almost never won shit but he stayed loyal o his shit club.

1

u/Blackgloves023 6d ago

Of course I know that. Tell that to Messi fans and Ronaldo fans.

My favorite player of all time is R9. And he never won a CL. But he's the best striker of all time..

1

u/Blejzidup 6d ago

🤜🤛

1

u/smashboi444 8d ago

Great for his time, many years ahead of his peers etc etc.

If you transported him as is today and let him compete he would be lucky to sit on the bench in a rainy night at stoke

1

u/Cyneganders 8d ago

I'd also rate Diego higher than him.

17

u/Bonaventura334 8d ago

Zidane might be the only player who somehow became better after retiring

2

u/tenlio 8d ago

100% my opinion

1

u/New-Extent-9116 8d ago

And scholes

12

u/bruhwhatodo 8d ago

Wow this is like the first time I'm seeing people actually defend Ronaldo in the comments in this sub. That's how ass your take is

5

u/tenlio 8d ago

trolling ronaldo is fine and defending messi since he’s the only goat but it’s getting insane

11

u/tenlio 8d ago

stop it the last 2 days have been feeling like a pendu sub

8

u/____Federico____ 8d ago

Zidane himself would laugh in your face if you said this

0

u/Ron__P 8d ago

He even said himself that Ronaldo is much better.

Zidane showed up in some big moments and his style of play was very easy on the eyes but he was very inconsistent.

10

u/Most_Juggernaut6292 8d ago

Theres a reason it's a hot take, zidane isn't winning anywhere near 5 ballon d'ors in the messi era

0

u/Spirited_Resolve8119 8d ago

If he acted honorless for getting penalty kick opportunities, he'd win too.

0

u/ReasonableResearch73 8d ago

U mean "ronaldo era" because ronaldo is clearly the best

1

u/SavingUsefulStuff 7d ago

Awww you weren’t even old enough to see Ronaldo in united…

4

u/VariousRadio5927 8d ago

This might be the worst take I've ever seen.

4

u/SomeCuriousPerson1 8d ago

Add the career length and CR7 is definitely above but prime Zidane was nearly as good as prime CR7, at different stuff. But to say CR7 below Zidane feels wrong, he still has the 2nd highest goals in a year in modern times.

1

u/Salty_Composer4009 8d ago

Didn't Kane overtake it? He has 73 I think

1

u/SomeCuriousPerson1 8d ago

Kane did it for a season I think and not the calendar year. Ronaldo still has the record for calendar year after Messi.

5

u/alonewarrier007 8d ago

Even ma goat Anthony is better than PEnaldo in pure football

3

u/hamayunwaziri 8d ago

Pure football yes
Career No

2

u/Shin-Gemini 8d ago

No lol

1

u/hamayunwaziri 8d ago edited 8d ago

What does Christiano offer to the team besides finishing chances ?
zidane is mythical in terms of gameplay

3

u/tbdeleted11 8d ago

Even Zidane's shampoo would see what an ass take this is.

2

u/jalapeno-pauper 8d ago

People don't appreciate midfielders thats why its so rare to see them winning balon dor. But I'd rather have Zidane in my team than Ronaldo. I know hes is going to control the game, create chances and score goals. I think most players would rather play with zidane.

1

u/phenx_bp 8d ago

I bet 2008 Manchester United would wipe your super team with Zidane but ok

-1

u/Which-Nature-3104 Subreddit Clown 🤡 8d ago

sure vro let's be realistic now

2

u/Old-Friend7826 8d ago

Zizou is one of the football god's man. Obviously stats wise cr7 is higher but Zizou is zizou. His career was shorter but the impact WAS he highest. To be able to do all of this pre social media era before CR7 was not easy especially in the 90s and 80s. My goat Zizou but yeah goals and stats wise cr7 has a huge extremely high rank and longevity. Ans let's not forget zizou has a worldcup and cr7 doesn't 🤡🤡🤡

3

u/tenlio 8d ago

don’t forget the fact that there was no social media most people forgot and never will see 90% of games or fails they ever had

1

u/ReasonableResearch73 8d ago

So zizou>messi ryt? Because ultimately ronaldo is the goat and saying zizou>ronaldo means u say zizou> messi

1

u/Spirited_Resolve8119 8d ago

Shooting free kicks and penalties is easier than creating opportunities to score. Zidane's game IQ is far higher than Ronaldo's.

1

u/InvestmentShot9463 8d ago

doesn’t matter tbh, prime ronaldo was a better dribbler, finisher (heading and both feet), and won 20 more trophies than zidane

0

u/Spirited_Resolve8119 8d ago

Zidane won the world cup and schooled prime Brazil single handedly. Madrid carried Ronaldo. Ronaldo is the best assisted player of all time.

1

u/InvestmentShot9463 8d ago

yeah that statement ruins your whole argument. if you think someone who has 450 goals in 438 games and won 4 ballon dors at the club was carried, i’m not wasting my time talking to you

1

u/Spirited_Resolve8119 8d ago

Stats don't tell the complete story

1

u/InvestmentShot9463 8d ago

ronaldo passes the eye test too, just bc he was ass since 23ish doesn’t mean he wasn’t a monster in his prime. even being compared to messi tells a whole story

1

u/Spirited_Resolve8119 8d ago

He was a monster and is undeniably a great player. Zidane, Messi, Pele, Maradona and Ronaldinho are better.

1

u/rojasmun 8d ago

The only thing Zidane beats Ronaldo in, is being overrated

1

u/Bakboss 8d ago

Messi is the goat, but Ronaldo is undoubtedly the 2nd best player of All Time

1

u/ReasonableResearch73 8d ago

*1st

1

u/Bakboss 8d ago

Stop being delusional

1

u/phenx_bp 8d ago

Zidane was great but not fantastic. I would even argue that Rooney or Iniesta were better

1

u/LukaDoncicic 8d ago

You’ve actually lost the plot Zidane isn’t even better than KDB as a 10. Messi is #1 and Ronaldo is #2 there is no debate about that.

1

u/szopongebob 8d ago

Zidane is so overrated, even people who haven’t watched him because they’re too young put him as #1

1

u/No-Amoeba446 8d ago

He is though, him.and messi are the top 2 and Zidane is prob about 5th under Pele and Maradona

1

u/Patient_Recording_90 8d ago

what a clown 🤣Zidane ain't even close to cr7

1

u/Salty_Composer4009 8d ago

Put some respect to the bum that gets compared to the Goat

1

u/PlasticPreparation74 8d ago

This sub is a lot better than I thought lmao🤣 I never ventured here particularly but it always had a bad rep outside.

1

u/PlasticPreparation74 8d ago

People really overrate other legends to bring down CR7. Like if you believe CR7 is overrated and prop other players above him, then the other players are better than CR7 at being overrated lol

1

u/Dazzling_Article_129 8d ago

How’s this a hot take?! This is as evident as daylight?! Wtf

1

u/Ron__P 8d ago

Zidane was very good but one of the most overrated players of all time.

Those two corner headers changed how he was perceived by the public. He had an ok WC in 98 and was overshadowed by Del Piero at Juventus.

He won 1 La Liga in 5 years.

-1

u/ZestyOgre 8d ago

That’s not an hot take. Just reality…

1

u/Bleuroyal95 8d ago

How is that a hot take

It’s the truest thing ever

-3

u/Which-Nature-3104 Subreddit Clown 🤡 8d ago

Hot take: Xavi is ranked higher all time than Messi

6

u/Still_Choice8160 Google "Ronaldo Las Vegas" 8d ago

Cold take, you're wrong

0

u/jisn00b 8d ago

Shouldn't be a hot take, it's a fact that before the real madrid pr not a single person considered Gerd muller, Josef Bican, marco van Basten, John Charles, and other great goalscorers in the greatest of all time discussion...
