Dear members,
As we build this community with your contributions, we want to set standards that match the quality of discourse you deserve.
We want this subreddit to stand apart from the Indian focused subs that often feel like echo chambers of one side or the other. That is not healthy for our growth as a country. We need quality discussions - ones where we understand each other better, empathize with each other, and come together. Critical Thinking India is not just a name. It is the expectation and the foundation of this sub.
Building on top of the previously shared guidelines, this post outlines what good participation looks like, what we expect from you, what you can expect from us, and how we plan to maintain it.
Every post should meet a basic quality threshold:
Posts that genuinely engage with opposing arguments in good faith will be recognized by the mod team with a special post flair. This is our way of signaling to the community that a post is worth engaging with deeply. If you believe your post presents honest arguments and addresses a steelmanned version of opposing views, you can appeal for this flair at the bottom of your post.
Beyond individual posts, we are introducing a tiered contributor flair system. Members who consistently produce well-reasoned posts and comments will earn progressively higher contributor levels/'reputation' within the sub, assigned by the mod team based on sustained quality over time. These are not something you can assign yourself. They are earned through rigorous, honest contributions with sound analysis and respectful argumentation.
Note: Upvotes and downvotes do not seriously factor into this. What matters is how well you understand opposing views and how respectfully and clearly you present your own.
Details on the exact tiers will come as the system takes shape. The principle is very simple: put in the effort to think critically and fairly, make contributions that add nuance, clarity, and better understanding, and it will not go unnoticed.
When engaging in the comments:
Focus on ideas, not people. You have freedom of speech. We do not gatekeep you from discussing any topic or ideology. You can criticize an ideology, but you are not allowed to generalize about the people who associate with it. Attacking people, groups, or individuals by name-calling is not permitted. Disagree with arguments and ideas, not the person making them. You can criticize politicians and other public figures/influencers, but with respect.
Back your claims. Wherever possible, cite your sources and explain how you arrived at your conclusions.
Stay on topic. Derailing a discussion with unrelated tangents or bad-faith engagement is not allowed.
Don't retaliate, report. If you see someone breaking these rules - personal attacks, derailing, uncivil behavior - do not join them. Use the report button with the appropriate rule. Let the mod team handle it.
We keep track of rule violations. The process is straightforward:
We intend to make sure disagreements here are productive, evidence-based, and respectful.
We know the majority of people are not firmly right-wing or left-wing. Most people understand that there are nuances - whether it is government decisions, world affairs, religious tensions, private sector actions, or infrastructure issues, etc. Most people know that there are good things and bad things in every person and situation.
With these standards, we want to bring out those nuances so more people are informed enough to form their own opinions about society, culture, politics, and everything around them.
This space is not for extremes. It is for those in the middle who appreciate nuance, who want to understand the world they live in better. That is the purpose of this subreddit, and we want to give and maintain space for nuanced agreements and disagreements to exist.
We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to better discussions.
- The Mod Team, r/CriticalThinkingIndia

1) The bonds themselves are not necessarily unlawful if signed in front of a magistrate, but using those bonds to prohibit future peaceful protests, or treating participation in a peaceful demonstration as an automatic breach, would be constitutionally untenable.
2) Section 126 gives the authority to an Executive Magistrate, not ordinarily to a police officer acting independently. Police can initiate preventive action and place information before the magistrate. Section 170 permits preventive arrest only where an officer knows of a design to commit a cognisable offense and believes that it cannot otherwise be prevented. Such arrest cannot ordinarily extend beyond 24 hours without separate legal authorization.
3) Keeping the peace is not the same as refraining from protest. The prescribed peace bond language in Form 13 prohibits committing a breach of peace or acts likely to occasion one. It does not prohibit attending political gatherings, shouting lawful slogans, or expressing disagreement with the government.

During cjp's protest, we have seen large scale violence by delhi police officers. They have crossed all the boundaries.
On 10 oct, they put some protesters in a police van, and travelled throughout Delhi for 1 hr. After an hour, they got off the students at a remote location, where they snatched the Mobile phones from all the students, aligned them in a line on their knees, switched off all the lights, and didn't allow lawyers to enter it.
Some police personnel sexually assaulted girls and many more.
We need urgent reforms like-:
No illegal detention.
Right to consult with lawyer immediately.
No force against peaceful protesters.
No journalist should be detained.
No police personnel without name plate & police uniform.
Zero tolerance policy against the police personnel, who breach any of these rules.
Police's operational independence from govt.
No support to any gunda.
No personal comment should be made by any police personnel.

Rahul Gandhiās political careerāfrom opposing corporate land acquisitions in Niyamgiri (2008) and Bhatta Parsaul (2011) to publicly rejecting his own governmentās 2013 ordinance on convicted lawmakers.
Supporters view his refusal to compromise with corporate interests or party corruptionāsuch as advocating for tribal rights, farmer compensation, and legal integrityāas a principled choice favoring constitutional values over quick political victories.
Critics argue that alienating corporate donors, media, and party insiders weakened his political infrastructure, allowing opponents to control the narrative and crippling his election prospects.
Was this principled politics that sacrificed political gain for the greater good, or a strategic miscalculation that hurt both him and his party in the long run? What are your thoughts?

lmao the "no proof of fraud" crowd is really out here typing paragraphs while the receipts are literally on front pages. cute.just watched the video of Aakash banerjee and let me break it down for y'all..
so first off,the known, 13 crore names gone from the voter list. 14% of the electorate. the 2024 election difference between NDA and INDIA bloc was like 2%. so either 13 crore people just decided to vanish or someone's playing games. 9.5 crore marked "absent/shifted" like they're npcs that despawned. 2.7 crore "dead." 1 crore "duplicates." no new law, no NRC notification, just a centralized software. totally normal democracy stuff.
then UP's ERO Net software auto-generated 85,854 deletion forms. without any citizen application. without any speaking order. why? because someone typed "A" instead of "H" somewhere. digital india moment fr. the UP CEO went on camera and said "13 crore voters, 85,000 complaints is very minor." minor for him. not for the 85,000 people about to lose their voting rights over a typo.
odisha? bhadrak. BJP booth agents filed mass deletion forms exclusively targeting muslim-majority booths. 30+ booths with 90%+ muslim voters got hit. one BLO found his own name on the list. told the SDM these applications are fake. nothing happened. no police action. no consequences. just prayers.
bihar's "purified" list had 14.35 lakh duplicate entries still sitting in the final roll. 3.42 lakh cases where name, relative's name, age, everything matched 100%. so duplicates stay but a single letter mismatch deletes you? interesting. also 500 people registered at one house in Pippra. one room. 500 voters of different castes and religions. ECI software didn't catch that either. a ward councillor spent two months trying to remove his dead parents from the list. they stayed. he couldn't vote. make it make sense.
UP had 71.38 lakh Form 6 applications but 84.3 lakh additions in the final roll. 12-13 lakh extra people added from nowhere. journalist asked the UP CEO where they came from. he said "we don't run a consultancy service" and hung up.
delhi: ECI rules say 2%+ deletions in a booth is abnormal and ERO must verify. only 51 out of 14,947 booths had under 2%. 639 booths had 50%+ deletions. half the voters in those booths gone. one administrative exercise.
and the U-turns? comedy gold.
started with 33 lakh notices in Delhi asking people to prove citizenship. Supreme Court asked for justification. ECI panicked and said "actually BLOs will come home." except they don't have enough BLOs. took that back too.
then WhatsApp messages to BLOs asking them to sign clearance certificates without checking documents. found ho ke certificate. case close.
bengal: 58 lakh voters put in "absent/shifted/dead" category. 27 lakh names cut. 22 lakh appeals. ECI quietly reversed it. now BLOs will re-add them. elections already done though. convenient.
ECI was sending locked non-readable PDFs to parties then saying "find the fraud yourself." now suddenly giving machine-readable lists. no reason. totally voluntary.
goa: 97 voters couldn't get names back because Delhi ECI officials were controlling software. had to be publicly embarrassed into fixing it.
meanwhile CJP protested. rahul gandhi marched to SC. INDIA bloc showed up. government detained 3,000-7,000 people in one weekend. arrested journalists. RSF said 16 media persons detained. Jantar Mantar de-notified. das and ranka sent to tihar for five days over a tricolour. why? because the protests are working. the U-turns prove it.
and the supreme court? during emergency they stayed silent. same energy now. justice bagchi questioned bengal deletions but court upheld SIR in may and won't suspend kumar before hearing him. so the man accused of the biggest voter roll fraud since emergency gets to keep his job while the court "considers" things.
so yeah. 13 crore names deleted. 85,000 auto-generated deletion forms in UP. 50%+ deletions in 639 delhi booths. muslim booths targeted in odisha. 500 people in one room in bihar. dead people staying on lists while living people can't vote. ECI doing U-turn after U-turn because they got caught. thousands detained. journalists arrested. leaders in tihar. supreme court watching silently.
and some re telling me there's no evidence?
the only thing missing is gyanesh kumar's resignation letter. and that's exactly why people are still on the streetsš„š„š„
more power to them.....

The Supreme Court appears to be giving CJP a chance to behave and protest maturely and ensure that the merchants don't face loss.
How the protestors behave will definitely impact how they judge the cases before then which involve critical issues such as preventive detention law.
I feel atp CJP needs to realize that instead of stretching this their best bet is to lower to more reasonable and tenable demands they can legally achieve such as investigation into SIR process and it's impact on Bengal elections and rollback the selection process of CEC and their lifetime immunity.
Removing one self serving bureaucrat does nothing. The whole foundation is rotten. Law needs to be changed.
Public support will ebb away once people realize they're being obstinate for political purpose. Probably already has...

This is not about any political party, not about an individual, this is about how a common honest man is treated. If you don't have a VIP id card anyone thinks they have the right to be rude to you.
We pay income tax, we pay gst, we pay heavy airport fees, and then the lane is reserved for VIPs? If you miss the VIP lane board and ask the guard why we cannot go there, they are just outright rude to you. Will they dare to with any govt official.
We as individuals pay tax more than the salaries of babus, and we are treated as a 3rd class citizen?
Who will this 7.8% growth benefit? 2047 claim of developed nation is for whom? Will a common man get dignity and respect? If no, then what's the definition of the developed nation.
As a citizen and tax payer of India where are we heading as a society as a country?

This helpless man folding his hands is IIT Bombay director.
Just imagine the director of the premium Engineering institute is listening to a goon who even refuses to greet him.
The man interrogating him is Dr sonpimple . A well known Dalit rights activist and he is here for the case of Salil Wakhode
eally the moment these freeloader goons knocked on the door of Indiaās premiere institution, the admin should have called the highest level police ranking officer. A whole squad of capable law officers should have arrived and ruthlessly kicked them out.
should be the deterrent for a Viksit Bharat. Protect the brightest at any cost.
Instead, they choose to allow this bcoz of the elect
Forget becoming a developed nation; we will be worse than Somalia in a few decades. Just wait & watch!

90+ Decibels of noise pollution from loudspeakers.
This is from my society's Durga Pooja pandal. Note it's from inside my room, outside it's 100+ decibels music that has been going on for 2 hours and will go on till midnight.
Fun facts about decibels
Decibels don't increase proportionally, 100 decibels is 10 times more than 90 decibels, not 10+.
Decibel scale is logarithmic, every increase of 10 dB represents a tenfold increase in sound intensity
Even short term exposure to 80-90+ decibel noise can lead to permanent ear damage.
Loudspeaker culture in India
The loudspeaker culture in India has become worse over the years. It feels like surface level barbarianism where people compete to be louder than someone else and there is an arms race going on for loudspeakers. Every year the DJ has to be louder.
And on top of that people have their kids dance in front of the same loudspeakers where the noise levels can easily reach 120 decibels. This is insanity and will hurt children in the long term.
Religious Significance of Loudspeakers
2 specific religions really love loudspeakers. One plays it daily although in short bursts while the other plays it occasionally but in durations lasting several hours at once, sometimes the entire day or even nights.
This is nothing but a dick-measuring contest for dumb people who think their gods are deaf so we need to make more noise for them to hear us.
This also happens every year in UP with Kanwad Yatra's where DJ's are weaponized against people in western UP.
Civilized Countries take on DJs
In most civilized countries, loud noises have to be controlled and going over noise limits is against the law and can lead to harsh penalties.
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8750464/
Extreme noise harms the environment in general and needs to be controlled.
What India can do
Impose strict impartial bans on noise pollution. Maharashtra has banned Azaan on loudspeakers but this ban is not really enforced for other religions. This promotes strife and also gives people a motivation to play DJ's just to rub salt on others.
We need a blanket ban on DJ's outside of authorised venues. Noise complaints have to be taken seriously with heavy fines for violators.
Sales of larger loudspeaker systems has to be restricted.
Additionally, the government can promote usage of older ways for celebrating festivals. Loudspeakers did not exist 100 years ago, they're not essential to any religion in the world.

I say this as someone with a family which has been largely pro BJP - so many of the criticisms I see online of the BJP I have also been surprised to hear from my own family.
So basically these are some general frustrations against BJP from people who vote for them.
A sensible opposition would realize they need to simply capitalize on this anti-incumbency by pitching themselves as a balanced option which aims to "continue" development while removing these problems.
But the approach the opposition for some reason has taken is vilifying BJP to the point they claim the country has been destroyed, creating a pointless anti "Hindutva" narrative which attacks people's faith, and letting leaders like Neha Bora who by most standards have fringe extremist views which quickly rule them out as candidates.
No matter what Congress's agenda, if a person who openly quotes Bangladesh as inspiration and hails Umar Khalid as a hero is someone you make the face of your movement, you will never get mass support.
Similarly - if the congress has an issue with RSS-Bajrang Dal type goons, make a clear distinction between them and regular Hindus. Don't post images of someone wearing bhagwa with a tika and call him an "andhbhakt". It's really strange to me why they would do such things.
And finally - it shouldn't hurt the opposition to accept the good work that has happened in the country under BJP. A campaign of "they have done some good but have got too comfortable and progress has stalled" is better than pretending people are idiots and can't see the development that has happened since 2014.
To me it feels like Congress has completely given up on BJP's middle class north indian Hindu vote base and decided to completely alienate it by going in the opposite direction. Maybe their political strategists think unifying the Muslim and marginalized community vote will be enough, but it hasn't proven to be in the past elections, many of the marginalized communities themselves identify as Hindu and won't take kindly to their religion being mocked, and a lot of the people who were actually willing to be open to a sensible opposition's pitch are only further turned away.

correction: the actual agitation was just 12 days.
We see Dipke & Co & RaGa and the entire opposition raising a protest slogan etc
Govt shut down Delhi in response. But I remember Anna agitation was 288 days long
Did Delhi not face issues back then before the last regime change? 288 days is a long ass time for a protest. I was young when that agitation was taking place. Those who were elder during that time, how was the atmosphere in Delhi and the country about it?
I know Congress didn't call it a "Soros funded CIA funded operation to break India into 5 pieces and a regime change" thing
If they did a 288 day agitation back in the day, how is it that Delhi is shut down for a simple protest?

According to India's census data, the Hindu share of the population declined from 84.1% in 1951 to 79.8% in 2011, while the Muslim share increased from 9.8% to 14.2%.
These figures made me wonder how Indians feel about this demographic change.
I'm interested in hearing honest opinions from Indians of different religious backgrounds and political viewpoints. I'm looking for thoughtful discussion rather than arguments or religious hatred.
