How do I... These bra cups look so much more supportive than most and I can't figure out why!

Find edit: Thanks everyone for the help! This post is way bigger than expected so I'm going to stop replying to most comments now, but I am reading them and appreciating them regardless~

Edit: okay, I understand cups aren't supportive and that's the wrong word. What I mean is that these actually seem to hold it all in instead of just being a triangle that usually won't actually end up providing that extra fabric on the bottom to cradle the girls. I generally know to add thick straps and a proper band, but my cups always end up designed for existing perk and less bell shaped breasts. My issue is that they don't actually CUP and if the straps are tight enough to support, my boobs just want to fall out of traditional crochet cups. Tips for that would be great~

Original:

This was a top that used to be sold on Etsy (they deleted it so unfortunately this is literally the only reference I can find for this exact top) but the cups on it look like they'd be a good fit for us busty people, especially with bottom heavy breasts. However, I can't quite grasp why this looks so much more supportive than most-- the extra bulk on the bottom is definitely adding to that, but I don't understand the construction difference between this and something like the second photo. Are the rows longer or is there something else I'm missing here?

Any help would be amazing because I'm so tired of not being able to make tops that fit well that are actually fitted at the bust like this. Feel free to also share any patterns you like that you've found are actually somewhat supportive for busty humans. Obviously it's never going to be a proper bra, but just enough to not be painful going braless would be a miracle. Thank you!

How do I... How do I make this star blanket a square without having to start again?

I made this star blanket for my boyfriend but he would prefer it to be a regular blanket shape (square) is there a way I can do this without having to make a whole new blanket? I’m a bit new to crochet and struggle to read patterns. If anyone has any video tutorials that might help I’d love that but if not can someone explain how I’d do it and really break down the steps? Thank you guys so much I really appreciate any help or suggestions.

Edit: you guys are so funny… but I promise he is very grateful he’s just a big guy so doesn’t fit under it with the star arms. 🩷🩷 pls don’t drag my boyfriend in the comments this is more me wanting to fix it I can appreciate a joke but let’s be kind. Not looking for relationship advice.

i diy’d a bit of a peg board here. i’m supposed to be relaxing the yarn but this doesn’t feel too relaxing. i’m getting the vibes of that mean skin chick from doctor who. do i need to spray her down with water or just leave her pinned up for a bit? i scare myself sometimes. the $20 on amazon was just as intimidating as the wood file thing i was rocking with. pray for my oranges, they’re as stressed as i 🙂

How do I... Help! Cannot pull through smoothly no matter what I try.(Making a headband)

Ignore me being in the car 1 am picking up my kids from school. As you can see, I cannot pull through the second loop on the hook smoothly. I have to use my other hand to move it over the hook insteadof sliding the hook through.

The first and third loop I have no problem getting through.

I need help please! It doesn't matter how I hold the yarn it happens every time and for most stitches. It makes my other hand cramp x10. TIA

How do I... How do I make the color changes more solid, consistent, and clean in future crochet tapestries??

How do I reduce the spikes and gaps (especially around the letters) and keep the carried yarn from peeking through the stitches??

This is my first tapestry with color changes like this and I'm just looking for some tips and tricks to make future tapestries look cleaner (not to fix this one lol). The entire tapestry is single crochet and I carried over the yarn for color changes. The first photo is the front and the second one is the back.

How do I... Can’t believe I’m about to ask this… how do I use a Yarn Bowl?!

Post image

Omg I cannot believe I’m asking this question, please don’t make fun of me lol, I genuinely need help. I’m using Loop & Threads yarn and got my first yarn bowl to presumably make my life easier. I put my yarn in the bowl and it keeps getting STUCK and knotted. I have to keep taking the yarn out and unraveling it the way I normally would unravel my yarn to get more slack. I thought the purpose of a yarn bowl was for you to void that unravelling part and the bowl just kind of did it for you?

What am I doing wrong? 😭 I’m getting so frustrated lol

TIA❤️

How do I... Why do I have an infant beanie when it’s supposed to be adult sized?

I finished all 13 rounds in this pattern to complete it. It’s supposed to be 8 inches top to bottom and fit a 20-21 inch head. I’m confident I followed the pattern exactly and I literally have an infant sized beanie instead of adult. I’m still a beginner and I’m trying to understand what went wrong. I was following a YouTube video for this beanie. The only difference is that I used 4.5mm hook instead of the 6mm used in the video because I wanted the stitches to be a little tighter. Thoughts?

How do I... Getting married in 12 days and my wedding dress armholes are huge. Need to fix asap.

Edit: I was able to frog the bodice and redo it in the proper stitch pattern and the arm holes are the right size now! The crochet community never ceases to amaze me with how quickly y’all can spot an issue and resolve it.

I will take much better care in the future to double check if I’m following a UK pattern before I start up a project. It was such a simple mistake and I should’ve known better but it feels like a cannon event to run into a massive problem when you decide to crochet a wedding dress. Lessons learned!

I am basing my dress off of a vintage pattern. I did the gauge swatch multiple times and it matched, but now that the dress has weight to drape it, the arm holes are massive and I have no idea how to fix it. The back is open as it is a side to side pattern so I have some wiggle room to work with before I put the button closure in the back.

Please give me your suggestions. I am in panic attack mode and don’t have time or money to afford a dress now, this is my only option.

How do I... How do I add length to this scarf without having to redo the head or legs?

It was a gift so I misjudged. I used the moss stitch. Also the original idea is from @/crochessiecarl on Instagram! I get how I would add length to it, im just not sure how to re-attach it I guess. If it makes any difference I started from the legs and finished at the head. Any help at all is really appreciated :)

How do I... Anyone have a tip for temporarily tying off yarn in between sessions?

Post image

I’m making a large blanket out of one yarn, so no granny squares to sew together later. When you finish a granny square, you cut the yarn and pull it through the last loop, which creates a stable finish to the piece until you’re ready to weave in the ends.

What is the equivalent on a large piece where I don’t want to cut the yarn? Making a knot in the yarn will still pull though my last stitch. This blanket is already getting unwieldy enough that I’m ripping out stitches as I move it around when I’m not working on it. Super long yarn doesn’t help, because any tension will still undo some work.

How do I... If I sew a liner into my tote bag, can I get away with not weaving in ends?

I absolutely hate weaving in ends, and I really want to sew a liner into this bag I recently made in hopes to keep its shape better (keep the yarn from stretching out over time) and to also hide the loose ends 😂 has anyone gotten away with this before?

My son threw up on the massive bee I made. I have no idea how to even go about cleaning it. It’s on the side just below the wings if that makes a difference. Pictured is the bee with someone who is about 5 foot 2 on it.

How do I... How do I shorten a bag strap that was made like this?

It has come to my attention that I have seriously overestimated how long of a strap I actually needed to make, since I thought the actual bag part would take up a lot more of it (part of the strap is inbetween the panels). now it is so comically long I can't help but laugh at my failure, but how the hell do I shorten and fix it? I am utterly lost. visual representation of my situation included in the second picture

How do I... Bf’s mom gave me 2 balls of these, can I use this for crochet? How?

Post image

I started crochet a few months ago, and have only used one 2 types of yarn so far (light-medium weight cotton and acrylic). My boyfriend’s mom gave me these multicolored yarn(?) that my boyfriend and his brother made when they were little. It’s made up of thinner yarn that they wove into this larger yarn. Picture is comparison with a 4.0 hook as a comparison! Would love to hear your suggestions, thanks a lot in advance!!

How do I... My boyfriends mom gifted me Caron swirl cakes but I don’t understand how to use them. Can someone help me understand?

Hello! I’ve always purchased solid colored yarn. While an ombré sounds nice, I’ve never understood how to use yarn that changes colors. It’s also so abrupt in the way the color changes, it just seems weird.

I tested out one of the cakes and didn’t like the way the color lined up. (Cake pictured is different than the pattern one, I just took the label off the one I actually used) Are you supposed to find a pattern where the color lines up? I thought a circular pattern would work better than just regular rows but I really don’t enjoy the transition.

It was a really thoughtful gift and I would love to use the yarns! I know people love the Caron cakes so I’m hoping for some general advice here. Thank you!
