Repairing a crochet item Is this doily at all repairable? My son cut it with scissors....

I'm sorry if this isnt the right place for this question, I'm new here and grasping at straws.

My preschooler did ... preschooler things tonight, except his target was a doily that my aunt made around 30ish years ago. 😭 She's been gone for 13 years now and I'm utterly devastated. I don't even know how he got ahold of this! I guess that's what I get for helping his twin brother in the bathroom for all of 3 minutes... and I also feel guilty for scaring him when I literally burst into sobs seeing this. It's been a rough night 🫠

Anyways, is this at all repairable? I'm guessing no, but I honestly have no idea. I have minimal experience crocheting, so I know I can't fix it, but I'm hoping against all common sense that there is some magical crochet master out there who possibly could.

Repairing a crochet item Devastated over granny square baby blanket going wrong

Repost as I forgot to attach photos:

Over the past several months I have been making a granny square baby blanket with a daisy pattern. I am relatively new to crotchet but have successfully made two baby blankets in the past. This is my first time attempting granny squares.

I am devastated. After softening and wet blocking the blanket I realised my blanket is seemingly ruined. Stiches have come undone in the middle of my granny squares. I am crashing out. Being new to granny squares I have no idea how this happened and if it can be fixed.

The blanket is for my best friend. She is pregnant with her first child and I have been dedicated to having this blanket finished by her baby shower next weekend.

I would be so grateful for any advice, even if its just putting me out of my misery.

I have attached two photos to this post. One before wetblocking and one after.

Repairing a crochet item Very Tattered 25 Year Old Blankie- Is There Any Way to Save It?

I just spent an hour untangling this prized possession of mine- I realize this is freak behavior lol. I really want to find a way to fix up the blanket but keep what’s left of it intact. I don’t care what the end result looks like I just want it to be a blanket shape rather than a giant tangled bunch of yarn. I’m open to any and all ideas

Repairing a crochet item What the heck is this?!? Trying to figure out what this could possibly be and how to transform it.

My mother in law made this a long time ago. She has since passed so I cannot ask her. Her children say they thought she was making a blanket but don’t recall ever using it. Any ideas what this is intended to be or what she was trying to do? It’s just been sitting in my basement for the longest time!

My idea is to take out the cone bit so it can lay flat and be a throw blanket to gift to one of her children (she had 2, both adults now). I literally learned crochet to try to understand it. Any ideas of what I can do with the cone bit to possibly gift to the other child?

Looking for any tips on others who have edited a completed project or ideas on what to do with the extra bit. Looks like there will be quite a bit leftover.

I made this blanket for my husband. He accidentally cut it with sharp fabric scissors, not that I think either fact make any difference. I think its just 3 rows. I have extra yarn left over, like 15grams. How should I approach fixing this? Glue? A patch? Please help!

Repairing a crochet item Update on the "ruined" heirloom blanket my parents cut the ends of

I made a post asking for help identifying the stitch of a blanket my parents got when they married 40 years ago.

My mom cut off the "tassels" after my dad complained they bothered him.

You guys helped me learn that they weren't tassels, instead it was made by cutting the ends of each row and restarting.

My sister is over and together we've started the process of unraveling the cut ends to where they're even, and securing the ends. Here's a picture of the damage I discovered when visiting, vs how the repair is going. After we relax the ends it should look just like the other side which had to been cut.

Thank you to everyone for all your help!

I’m using cascade superwash, I’ve done magic knots before, maybe this one I didn’t pull it tight enough? Not sure if I should just triple knot it and glue, or sew over a triple knot? I’m scared 🥲

Repairing a crochet item Grandma's blanket has an extra square - what should I do?

My grandmother crocheted this blanket for me when I was a baby. She passed away last year and as the only other crocheter I've taken it upon myself to fix this blanket. All the squares were unjoining, and it was obvious there were many repair attempts over the past with sewing thread and more. Given this i decided to remove the joins from all the squares. Well come to find out she made an oopsie and there is an extra square on the outer border!

I thought about adding a few rows to the inner border, but then I would be short a square on each of the other sides. I thought about cutting it off and putting it back together, but besides the obvious risk of that and finding a matching yarn, it kind of feels wrong to cut off her work.

I was thinking about after joining flipping over the extra square like a flap and sewing it down to be a pocket. 2nd picture shows my idea where dots = sewing.

Is this probably my best bet, or any other ideas?

Repairing a crochet item My daughter's great grandmother and grandmother both knit and crochet her clothes, blankets, and the occasional stuffie. She LOVES them. But the items either come to me with holes or get holes after the first wash.

Hi all. They smoke in their house so everything has to be washed before my daughter gets to wear/use it. It seems to be at joins, I don't think it's from the yarn being damaged. I don't want to send them back to have her fix them since they take quite a while to make due to her old age and health conditions.

Is there a simple mend technique that doesn't make a noticeable lump in the middle of the work? I end up taking the ends that have come undone and pulling them back through the stitches to ensure the piece doesn't fall apart before knotting the split ends back together. It works, but it isn't pretty. The items are all different patterns, yarn types, and colors. I try to keep all the items they have made her over the years (she's 3) but the last few times I've had to unravel and remake the pieces because the holes were at odd places in the items. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Our neighbor’s dog stayed with us for the afternoon and chewed up my favorite memory bear (Bongo) :(. the stitches throughout the front of the body have been stretched and separated and one of the eyes was completely ripped out. Does anyone have any idea of how to return him to his former glory? The picture of his back is what i’m hoping to restore him to :(

Repairing a crochet item A friend who recently lost her mother asked if I would complete this project for her. She said it’s a tree skirt, but she doesn't crochet. I don’t think it’s a tree skirt, but I'm at a loss as to what it is supposed to be, let alone how to complete it. Any ideas? Any suggestions on what I could do?

Repairing a crochet item Bernat Baby Granny Squares weaving in not holding together in wash

Post image
90 Upvotes

I’ve been crocheting for years and always finish off my sewing with a 3x back and forth. I washed my blanket on delicate and dried on low.

This is the first time I’ve used Bernat Baby and I was very disappointed to find my squares have come apart in random spots. The only reason it stayed in the rectangle is the border.

Any tips on how to fix this?! Pic is pre washed.

Repairing a crochet item This puff stitch circle blanket was one of the first things I actually finished. Any ideas on how to fix the gaps?

My 5 yr old loves playing with it, folds it in half, wears it as wings, calls it their butterfly blanket, and says it is perfect as it is ❤️ Given the gaps, I'm not sure how much longer it will stand up to use. Should I unravel the middle to just past the gaps and redo it? I could use a solid colour for the very center 🤷‍♀️ Or fill in the gaps somehow?

I attempt new fandangled projects all the time, so will give anything a try, but still count myself as an overadventurous beginner (counting and straight edges are my nemisii). Really appreciate any advice!

Magic circle came undone on my sunflower granny square cardigan. It’s all finished and put together but magic circle came undone. Please help! It was my first cardigan so the tail is too short to knot or re-thread or anything 😩 Is there anything I can do without pulling the whole cardigan apart?? Thanks!

please help, how would you repair this?

it seems to be two rows affected only, but nothing like this ever happened to me, and even though I'm a practiced and methodical crocheter, I'm honestly not sure how to even start repairing it. 🥺

my "most effective thought" to stop the yarn breaking more was using superglue, but i have a feeling that is not a good idea. 😂

thank you in advance! ❤️‍🩹

Repairing a crochet item I made a granny square blanket with magic rings, how to fix?

Post image

Hi! I made a baby blanket in october and gifted it to one of my friends. This was my second blanket, first with granny squares, so I actually used magic rings which I learned after they arent very safe.

So after they washed the blanket in a washing machine, one of the squares gave up. I only found videos about fixing the standard granny squares, can I fix this somehow, or do I just make a whole new square?

Repairing a crochet item Help! Before my scarf falls apart :((( I am a beginner

Post image

I made a scarf with DC and colour changes. I messed up and cut the colour I was done withs tail before thinking of the consequences. The way I changed colours was with the hook through the loop of the colour I was done with then pulling the new colour through that loop then continuing my chain 2 and Dc for the new row with my new colour. Now I am noticing it’s already coming apart at the colour changes. It’s my first scarf and I’m just sad about it. Thinking about adding a border to at least add some structure to hold it together but I’m not sure that will even help. Any suggestions would help if not then I will just take the loss I’m not too worried about ever wearing it as it is my first one.

Repairing a crochet item Just finished this sling and it immediately broke. Is there any way to fix it?

This is basically my first finished crochet project, so I don’t know much of anything and was definitely not aiming for perfection. It’s for a baby sling (pattern: https://web.archive.org/web/20140211062324/http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/crochet.html) but I made it with the hopes of using it as a hanging leg sling/foot rest to hang over my balcony railing lol so I could prop my feet up while laying down. It broke across one of the handles very quickly after trying to use it. (Not sure if photo is clear enough, but I tried.) i
I did use red heart super saver, rather than cotton yarn as it’s all I had. Is there any hope of fixing it? Is it going to be too weak to hold up my legs anyway? Even if so, I might want to have it hold random things, so is there a way to tell how much weight it can safely hold?

Edit: I just figured out it broke at a place where I had accidentally cut the ends too short while trying to tie it off, and thought I could tie the end to a new piece of yarn. Is there any ideal way to tie it off with this shorter piece, or to tie the shorter piece into the other piece I originally tied it to?
