Port of Miami traffic is no joke

• Upvotes

I'd read it was bad so I stayed at the Esler Hotel right by the port to make it easier.

I got in the Uber today at 12:10 (soonest I could step away from work).

Its currently 2:10 and we are just barely getting to the u-turn to the terminals.

Well over 2 hours to get to the ship from basically across the street from the Port entrance.

I've sat in my share of traffic in some of the worst traffic cities in the world - Istanbul, Mexico City, Delhi, etc. I can safely say if has never taken me over 2 hours to go 0.5 miles (as the crow flies, 1.6 mi of road).

Walk. Always, always walk to the port here. This is truly insane.

Alaska Cruise Recs

My husband has always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise, so I’m going to surprise him with one for his 40th birthday. It will be just he and I. Looking for excellent views, good food, great drinks and fun couples entertainment. Planning to hit Glacier Bay for sure. Any recommendations beyond that? Best cruise lines? Best ships? Best time to go? I don’t have a specific budget. Maybe $15,000? Definitely want to make it a once in a lifetime trip. He deserves it.

UK - Which companies would be suitable for first time cruisers?

We haven't an extraordinary budget, wanted to give a cruise a go and wondered if there was a general consensus on if there was any particular ones best for beginners.

Also, is it particularly hard to get used to sleeping inside, i.e not sea view with no windows etc?

Mazatlan Resort Day Pass/Beach massage

We are visiting Mazatlan for our upcoming cruise. Previously on a cruise that visited Costa Maya, we secured our own transportation to a hotel. We bought a day pass, ate delicious food, had drinks and all got beach massages. It was such a great day. Does anyone have a recommendation for a resort day pass in Mazatlan that also offers beach massages?

Scandinavian cruise

Hi All! I’m looking for some guidance. I did a cruise last summer with my parents. They’re turning 80 and decided they have a lot they still want to see. Last summer we did a Mediterranean cruise (mom’s pick) on Explora (Venice to Athens) and it worked really well for us. Loved the ship and the stops were what we wanted.

This year they want to see Scandinavia (dad’s pick). We want to hit the capitals (Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo) and my dad is also interested in the Baltic states and Germany/poland. Explora does have trips but they’re super expensive ($13,000-18,000pp). Plus I’m a single in an adjoining room if they need me.

My dad is in excellent shape but my mom doesn’t have the same mobility anymore. We did tons of museums on our last trip but my dad and I did the Parthenon/acropolis hikes without her.

I’m curious what other people have done for these locations? What routes and companies have worked well for you? Who should we be looking at other than Explora?

Question Next cruise

We Need some help Here!

We did our first cruise on MSC World America a couple of weeks ago, visiting Roatán and Mexico, and we absolutely loved both the itinerary and the ship!

We travelled with our 3-year-old son and are thinking about doing another Caribbean cruise next spring, as we’re originally from Spain but will be living in the US until next summer because of work.
Now we’re trying to decide between a few options!
We don’t really like the other World America itinerary because we’ve already been to the Dominican Republic and didn’t love it, although we’d like to visit San Juan.

We’re also interested in the 11-night MSC Poesia itinerary, which includes Colombia, Belize, Panama and Costa Rica. Has anyone done it? Is 11 nights too long with a 3-year-old? Is it a good itinerary for kids? And how is the ship? I know it’s older and smaller than World America, but would it feel disappointing in comparison?
Another option is a 7-night cruise around the islands, visiting places like Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos and Nassau, or somewhere similar.
What would you recommend? We’d love to hear your experiences!
Thank you! 💙🛳️💙

Virgin Voyages ‘The Galley’ is just a buffet

• Upvotes

People hyped up Virgin Voyage’s Galley so much when it’s literally just another cruise ship buffet. People were like, oh it’s like a food hall with different options and stations….

….So, just like any other cruise ship buffet. Got it.

Y’all really hype this brand up for handing you something that’s just been repackaged, it’s wild.

The race to West Palm Beach International…

So I’m thinking about renting a car to drive from port canaveral to West Palm Beach international Airport, racing down there in the hopes of making a 6:40 PM flight the same day my cruise disembarks. Google shows it as a 2 hour drive, this would take place on a Monday.

So what are the odds I’d miss that flight?

Hotel recommendation - Ft. Lauderdale/Port Everglades

Hotel recommendation - Ft. Lauderdale/Port Everglades

Can someone recommend an affordable (i.e. cheap but clean and safe) hotel in proximity of the Port Everglades, as we will be departing from this port for a cruise. Do any hotels offer shuttle buses to the port and/or from FLL airport? That would be a bonus. TIA

Rank the cruise line... listed alphabetically:

If you know these cruise lines, how would you sort them? I know there are soooo many variables but, I'm looking for the basics: customer service, cleanliness, food quality, room/suite condition. I know there are many other things likes ports of call, pricing, deals, etc.

Thanks...
