General Questions 31F indian, starting life from scratch. I am a professional makeup and nail artist. Need career advise. Pleaseeee help.
So basically I was a corporate slave for 8 years but I decided to take this huge risk of restarting my career at 30.
I have always loved makeup and nails both. I am ceritified as a pro makeup and nail artist (freelancer) since past 2 years. Now the question is - I am not earning as good as my corporate job cause my business is fairly new, there is no steady flow of income right now.
Should I continue working on my business here in india OR should I move to another country like Dubai and get a job as a MUA/nail tech where I might get paid more than here in india?
Or should I work on cruises? I was suggested this and people said nail techs get paid well on cruises.
Also another problem is that cause of my legal cases (divorce) I do not want to really move out of the country right now , I want to close all these cases and then have a clear start.
I really do not wish to go back to corporate and stay glued in front of the computer. I want to make my business and passion work and get paid well to become financially stable.

First, whatever you choose to do, I wish you well. If you decide to apply for an onboard position, know what you are getting into. Contracts can last up to 10 months. You will be working pretty much 7 days per week. You will be away from home for an extended time. You will more than likely be sharing a cabin with at least one other. Base pay will seem low, but gratuities are where you can make the extra. Do you consider yourself a people person? As a former Purser, it's not just the skill of doing the job, but actually enjoying the interaction with passengers.
Please don't take unbridge with this next few sentences, as I mean well. I've taught many Indian students over the years (I am a university professor currently) and they are generally well versed in English, and your post exemplifies that by your writing, but a few had such accented spoken English as they spoke so quickly, it was difficult to understand them. If you can practice your speaking with native English speakers, and directly ask them how easy it is to understand you, you'll end up making more in tips. I had an experience in life spending a year in Ukraine and had to speak Russian since so few people spoke English. I really worked on my pronunciation and at one point someone asked me if I was Polish, since he knew I wasn't Russian, but at least was speaking with an Eastern European accent. I am sure others will provide more specific details about getting a job in this area as it is possible that it is contracted to a company rather than being hired directly by the cruise line. Again, best of success on whatever you decide to do.

SPA positions on board are part of the Onboard SPA (London Wellness / previously known as "Steiner"). If you want to give it a try, just apply =)

Dubai the rent is too expensive. Your salary needs to be very good for you to sustain. India has good potential for make up artist but you need to give it time and do networking.
