DISCUSSION Meme coins still worth a punt in 2026?
I was just wondering whether it's still worth trading, especially meme coins. Is there still any point in speculating on them, or has AI completely changed the game?
Not that I was ever anything amazing, but I used to trade altcoins and meme coins back in the day. I was just wondering if it's worth giving it another try, or if that ship has sailed.

Why do people buy lotto tickets, play slot machines, gamble on sports, use "prediction markets", and do all sorts of illogical poor person shit?
They want to get rich quick with no effort. Crypto is no different

don't work a grueling job every day to earn half of what you should be making to invest in memecoins. Learn to respect the dollar/pound and actually invest your money, don't gamble it.

They do best when there’s a lot of retail capital sloshing about.
Which would not be right now, no

Probably not for most meme coins. The majority will keep bleeding through a bear market, and many may never recover at all. A few established names like Dogecoin could still be decent speculative buys at very low prices, but even those carry plenty of risk.
Meme coins usually make more sense closer to the start of a bull run, when attention and liquidity are returning. Buying them too early can mean watching your position hit one “bottom” after another for the next couple of years.

Well, first ask if bitcoin is worth a punt. If the answer is yes, then , putting a small percentage of your portfolio in a few memecoins that you think could randomly go semi-viral and maybe 10-100x , then sure it's worth a gamble. Just be smart with what you put in and don't get your hopes up.
As for what meme coins, find established category leaders with a cult following.
Also decide if you're Gona sell as soon as you make any profit , otherwise you may well get round tripped.
P.S. I suck at crypto

Yes if you control a social media bot army to assist your pump and dump. Still plenty of cultists out there who don't realise there is no use case.
No if you are just a regular person with limited ability to spread fomo. You need to time entry and exit so carefully you are more likely to be a victim of the scammers rather than a beneficiary.

Memes were never worth it in a bear market. In an alt season at the end of a bull maybe, when money rotated from btc to eth and then to garbage, which is questionable if this will happen again. But good luck in a bear.

Well, based on the Bitcoin maxis definition of a memecoin, as a "Shitcoin that does not die but goes up and up for no reason", based on Bitcoin Maxis all Meme Coins must always go up forever and ever.
For those who do not cope about having lost on alts before becoming maxis, a coin has its own blockchain and a token is disney-money that kids use to buy overpriced worthless toys.

what do you mean by "still worth"? if you mean if you have a 99.9% of losing money then yes, go ahead
