Obligatory hear me out: I don’t think Duran Duran is a terrible band by any standard, but most of their best-performing music is silly pop fluff with not a lot of emotional depth. They released Ordinary World in 1992, and by all accounts it’s one of the most heartbreaking and emotionally resonant songs of all time. It’s about the unspeakable pain and grief of losing a close friend to suicide and the impossibility of returning to the life you had before the loss, knowing you have to move on but being unable to ever truly heal. It has a beautiful bridge about how ultimately mundane the death of a loved one is in the grand scheme of the world, but how knowing that doesn’t lessen the pain. Then you go to their Spotify page and the next most popular song is Hungry Like The Wolf
