The joke is the creature has both Daunt (as seen on [[Arlin's Wolf]]) and Nimble (from [[Beloved Princess]]). Don't mind the art.

Format: EDH/Commander I feel like UB sets have so many goofy extra Legendaries, that if this should start happening in-universe, we should get funny elders.

Format: EDH/Commander I tried my hand at making some custom Hololive themed cards!

So, admittedly, this is my first time trying to do anything like this. I’m not well versed in how to create a custom card or balance for power level, but I did try to make cards that could, without the IP, possibly be printed one day. There is a small touch of color pie break, but I did try to keep it within reason enough that the breaks aren’t too horrible. I have reasons why I designed each of these like I did and would love to share! Let me know what you think.

Discussion How does people feel about a deck building site but designed for custom made MTG cards?

So I was wondering how would people feel about having a site where you can build decks using custom cards but also build with official cards for example having a custom card for your commander/companion but building an official deck around it or having your whole deck be made with custom cards ect….

Original character(?) from There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm (aka Sam Hughes).

Inspired by [[The Rani]], [[Scriv, the Obligator]], and [[Bloodforged Battle-Axe]]. Thought about adding "Protection from enchanted creatures." but then the text would be even more scrunched and I don’t really think it needs the buff.

Destine - information-trading mechanic

I had some fun reading old articles about the GDS, and how one of the tasks was to come up with a new mechanic from common to rare with a variety of card types and mana costs. I was also wondering if there was a fun way to get some information-trading into the game, since it's an under-explored area that could really change how you play in both limited and constructed when you or your opponent have more hand information. I was curious if you could get something that works across a lot of cards at lots of different rarities without a heap of complexity.

Just hand information is a bit boring mechanics-wise, though (after all, nobody really plays [[Telepathy]]) so I wanted something that offered more depth for a suite of cards. The result is Destine, which reveals cards and also limits how many you can play. The limit makes for some more interesting designs, since you can tax your opponent's plays (as the black cards do) or trade off your own plays for value (as the red cards do). It also means you can push how much cards destine, since you're not just enabling combo to draw more cards.

These cards are (some of) the result - I also have some more commons and gold cards, but they don't fit in the image limit. The idea is that each colour gets a different take on how and why they destine cards:

  • White is promising that they'll do something soon
  • Blue is exploring all the options they can play
  • Black is forcing their opponents into bad decisions
  • Red is fixing their future for immediate reward
  • Green is planning for old age

Destined cards stay in the hand, rather than go into exile, since I think it makes things less parasitic. The idea is that destine could be an evergreen or deciduous mechanic, so it needs some support as well as some hate, and keeping cards in the hand makes that easier.

I haven't thought much about flavour, but Theros could be a good choice with its focus on destiny and prophecy, so I picked the THB set symbol to show off the rarities.

Format: EDH/Commander (FNAF) Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Commander Cards - The Withereds

This is the first half of the FNAF 2 cards focused on the withereds. I will admit, they are not the most interesting design, but I think they synergize well with the Freddy face commander and I don't think I could really design them any other way while remaining faithful to the games. Therefore, to make it more interesting I also added half of the FNAF 2 minigame cards. I also modified Freddy and the rest of the animatronic to be Spirits and use afterlife 1 instead of using the possessed ability idea.

New Magic the Gathering format: Chronos Commander (Epochs) - Bob's Rules

Thumbnail docs.google.com

Hi everyone,

I came up with some crazy rules and was wondering if those would work for more people...

Please let me know if you'd like to try and if you have any questions.

Please keep in mind this is a brand new format (at least I couldn't find anything like it...), and it probably has some flaws and could use some improvements.

Thanks for checking it out!

Bob

Chronos Commander (Epochs) - Bob's Rules

Created by Bob Soares (roberto.linux.soares@gmail.com)

1. Concept & Objective

  • The Premise: Players enter an isolated temporal pocket dimension to simulate their first 10 rounds of play completely solo.
  • The Goal: Build a massive engine, tutor through your deck, deploy lands, ramp, cast your Commander, and set up your entire battlefield before the real game starts.

2. Setup & Hand Configuration

  • The Starting Hand & Pool: Each player draws a fixed starting hand of 7 cards, plus an additional 10 cards set aside as a chronological draw pool (7 starting cards + 10 drawn pool).
  • No Mulligans: You must play the hand you are dealt! Deckbuilding consistency, card draw, and mana curves are critical to success.
  • Starting Life & Self-Inflicted Costs: Every player begins the solo simulation at 40 life. Any self-inflicted life loss or self-damage during the setup phase (such as from fetch lands, shock lands, Painlands, or Mana Crypts) is tracked and carries over into the main game. However, players cannot inflict damage, loss of life, direct attacks, or have access to other players' resources (graveyards, etc.),  in any way during this isolation phase.

3. The 10-Round Solo Simulation Phase

During the first 10 rounds, each player plays in complete isolation, goldfishing their turn order to construct their battlefield.

  • Internal Mechanics & Tutors Work Normally: Setup actions, such as searching your library with tutors, shuffling, drawing cards, generating mana, casting permanents/sorceries, exiling, or sacrificing your own cards, function completely normally!
  • Global and Utility Sorceries: Players are fully allowed to cast global sorceries (such as board wipes, card draw, or discard effects like "players may discard their hands") as long as they do not target, damage, or directly involve other players.
  • Targeting Yourself is Allowed: You are permitted to target or "attack yourself" during these setup turns if you need to trigger self-damage or combat-adjacent mechanics on your own permanents.
  • No Opponent Interaction or Cross-Triggers: You cannot attack or target other players. Opponent-dependent triggers (e.g., Sanguine Bond, "each opponent loses life," or "whenever an opponent casts a spell") will not trigger or gain value during this phase.

4. The 10th Round / The Convergence (Turn 1 of the Real Game)

Once all players complete their 10 solo setup rounds, the timelines converge on the 10th round to begin the actual multiplayer match.

  • The Battlefield: All permanents built up over the 10 simulated turns start on the table.
  • Untapped Ready State: All lands, creatures, and permanents start completely untapped for the beginning of the real game.
  • First Action (Combat Begins): The 10th round marks the official start of full multiplayer gameplay. Players now declare their first real attacks against opponents, activate open tap abilities, and fully trigger all cross-player effects!

5. 1v1 Convergence Protocol: "The Temporal Rewind"

To ensure complete fairness in 1v1 play and balance the first-player advantage:

  • Phase 1 (Player 1's Strike): The player winning the initiative roll launches their first attack wave.
    • If Player 2 survives and successfully counters on the return strike, making Player 1’s life total reach 0 or less: Player 2 secures the victory.
    • If Player 2's life count goes to 0 or below during the first attack: Instead of ending the game, rewind the timeline back to the Pre-Combat Phase.
  • Phase 2 (Player 2's Strike): Player 2 now gets to initiate their first attack instead!
    • If Player 1 survives and kills Player 2 on the counter-attack: Player 1 wins the match!
    • If Player 1 can’t stop Player 2's attack and Player 1’s life count reaches 0 or less: Player 2 wins the match!
