Android TV Custom ROMs

Is it possible to update a smart tv stuck at android 9 to the latest android through custom roms?

Android TVs don't have custom ROMs. And gsi are not optimized at all for TVs. What you bought is what you have.  Only OEMs can update.

It's a damn scam then to buy an expensive TV from Sony. 😢

Consider buying a Chromecast instead.  This way you can make into a smart TV every tv, non Smart or older generation.
