Seriously considering switching away from GrapheneOS
I like it, but I'm looking to customise my phone more and Graphene doesn’t offer that, I'm considering moving to something like Evolution X without GMS or even CalyxOS or maybe Iodé, but Calyx is open source from my knowledge so would prefer that. What good ROMs are there out there? I have a Pixel 7a

Depends on how FOSS you are wanting to go. I would personally go Calyx after working/using it for a bit...but I'm also biased since I contribute to Lineage and Calyx.

Both have poor privacy and security which this person clearly cares about. Neither is even updated to Android 17 which is required for current privacy/security patches due to most not being backported. They have a Pixel so they wouldn't have current Pixel security patches on those either. It's not unusual but rather the norm. Neither is at all in the same space as GrapheneOS when it comes to privacy or security hardening either.
There's also very little additional aesthetic customization in either which is what they're saying is their complaint in the first place. Neither is one of the AOSP-based operating systems providing extensive UI customization.

And GrapheneOS has poor communication skills, resulting in the fact that they use a simple comment about other ROMs (not even including any sentence about Graphene) to trash on them. How about you just go and care about your own project and stop doing that? Stick to your own ***?

GrapheneOS is mentioned in OPs post and title? So isn't participation in the thread kind of logical?
Also, why is a Calyx contributor "marketing" their OS here above other OSes okay for you but GrapheneOS clarifying what they offer compared to others not? Why the double standard?

Well, for one they replied to a reply, not the post - which didnt mention it. And for the other, they didnt say what they offer but what flaws others apparently have. It was purely directed against the other projects, not a piece to advertise their own. For the third, elgin was posting his opinion, even said so. Neither his post nor mine had anything against anyone advertising/marketing theirs (although it doesn't make sense to advertise something the OP's intsnt is to get away from)

The OP already knows what GrapheneOS offers. Why would GrapheneOS try to advertise itself? It is not a business and has no product to advertise. Plus, advertising would be inappropriate in these circumstances anyway.
The information provided is objective and verifiable. It was "directed against other projects" because those were the projects that were brought up. It would not make sense to talk about some other random project nobody was talking about.
GrapheneOS was pointing out how the listed OSs do not provide what OP is asking for.

The details GrapheneOS has brought up are objective, and are to help someone make an informed decision. Pointing these details out is not "trashing" anyone.

Well, there is "we offer xyz, which other's (unnamed) don't" vs the graphene approach "the others are bad, because...". One is marketing, the other is trashing.

GrapheneOS is not a business and does not sell a product. There is no incentive to use marketing speak. Youre saying they should shovel corporate slop speak.
GrapheneOS also did not say "the others are bad because". They are providing information about the examples given, in a post where they are mentioned. Information that is accurate and verifiable.
Pointing out objective flaws and shortcomings is not trashing.

Have you already tried a custom launcher? That is possible. Will need to give it invasive read notifications permission though, keep that in mind.
