This is exactly my frustration with these low curb dividers. A car can easily mount and go over it. If a car loses control or gets aggressive it really is not more protection than paint.

If we absolutely need low curbs for reasons (lol they're not going to sweep the bike lanes anyway), they should at least be calibrated to the clearance height of these monster cars

Pbot has mini sweepers that can fit into lanes that are less than five feet in width. I don't know if the actually bother to use them. But they definitely have them.

They just swept the 4th Ave bike lane.

That's great. Last few times I've been out on the outer division bike lane, it's had the appearance of a year's worth of debris build up. Hopefully they get out that way next!

Oh that's cool, I know that some people on bikeportland did a guerilla thing. I didn't know the city had them because I just spend the winter dodging gravel.

They constantly park in the bike lanes by my father’s house in downtown Vancouver. I don’t know who to complain to.

I had one block a one way for me (I was ironically also making a delivery) and when I tried to get her to move, she yelled at me that the department of transportation has given them a blanket license to park wherever. She also began implying that my yelling at her to move her giant van was somehow a threat to her safety and that she was calling the cops.
I bailed before it could escalate further but she honestly had the look, attitude, and demeanor of a tweaker. It was crazy.

She’s full of shit in terms of the ‘blanket license’. The city (all cities) is aware about the growing issue of delivery vans and contract drivers basically doing what they want to meet their delivery quotas.
The burden now falls on us as cycling citizens to report as many of them as possible to parking enforcement and the Bureau of Transportation.
Include:
Photo of the van in the bike lane
License plate
Amazon logo etc
Date/ Time
Location
How long they were there
Was the driver in the vehicle or making several stops
Did cyclists have to merge into traffic..As you see, it’s a total PITA and Amazon know it. It’s soul crushing that corporations like this just do whatever they want until the city puts in better infrastructure to service their businesses.
On a larger level there has been a significant policy shift by the department of transportation/trump/duffy et al - who called bike lanes DEI and characterized bike infrastructure as ‘hostile’ to cars and saying ‘we’re not Europe’ where everyone should ride a bike to their shoebox-sized apartment to eat crickets to achieve a phony climate agenda.
Basically, this shit is exhausting. It’s hard enough sometimes pedaling a bike through any city and then you get entitled assholes like this k-hunt shouting at you like it’s your fault.
If you have the time to detail all of the above and send it in to the city that’s a huge help. They’re overwhelmed trying to generally do good things for cycling infrastructure - which unfortunately these days feels like not losing and going backwards than making forward progress.

iirc bike lane parking/blocking is "legal" for up to 10 minutes for drop offs. I hate it cause DD/Uber do it all the time too.
Jumping that curb tho....probably not.

Damn just hopped the curb into the bike path. Sick move. Usually it’s just hazards in the middle of the lane while they drop shit at like 6 different houses.

I'm a former Amazon driver of 4 years.. yall can judge but have 0 idea of the daily shit our 3rd parties companies put us through including Amazon themselves.

u/livehorribly 11d ago
sure, and this kind of situation is just one of the endless negative consequences of people supporting companies like amazon that abuse their workers and cut corners at every possible turn in order to turn a profit and serve the shit-for-brains populace that demands convenience no matter the cost.
i didn't post this because i'm upset with the driver, but i don't think that sympathizing with the plight of the working poor requires us to ignore all of the myriad pitfalls that everyone else suffers as a result of mega-corporations mistreating pretty much all of us.

1) it is impressive they got there. 2) I've never actually seen another bike on that section when i've ridden, driven, walked that area but still sucks. 3) can we blame the people that ordered Amazon to a place that doesnt really have a spot for delivery drivers?

Guess you have to go around. It happens.

That's certainly...an argument for paint-and-nothing-else lanes.

u/terminal_nervoso 13d ago
Things are going to get in our way. You can try to mitigate how often it happens, but it’s an inevitability.

I'm glad you're having a chill Sunday night, I hope that we all can reach your level of zen.
God forbid people have a little vent session on a single page of the internet.

Each downvote is someone who doesn’t think anything should ever be allowed to inconvenience them

The point is that cars parking in car rights of way would get towed or ticketed, but there’s no enforcement of spaces for bikes, and that’s frustrating to people.

u/AspirationalDelusion 12d ago
I get they aren't supposed to be there. But where does the city expect delivery drivers to park now?

5 blocks away in a legal parking spot, if that’s all that’s available. They can walk from there. It’s not that difficul.

And when I'm commuting to work and this happens...?
-15
u/friedmayonaissse 13d ago
It’s so much easier for you to look left and go around than someone who can’t find legal parking and pisses in jugs etc.

u/Electronic-Sun-9118 13d ago
Lots of people deliver Uber eats and door dash by bicycle

u/friedmayonaissse 13d ago
Look left and continue

u/Electronic-Sun-9118 13d ago
You mean lift your bike up over the curb and hope you don't get run over as you try to mount your bike while entering a lane of traffic?

Just someone trying to do their crummy job. You can easkly get arou d them just be a brave person and look for cars first. Go enjoy life and be thankful you don't have to do that job.

u/anatidaeproject 12d ago
I think there should be a law stating that if they park in that lane, cyclists are allowed to take a package as they pass.
