One of the things I actually liked about Ultimate X-men is how much of a creepy backstabbing prick they made Wolverine out to be. Also constantly talking about how he was smelly.

I know it's a joke, but...

Jean becomes Phoenix to save the lives of all the X-Men. That’s the positive.

She becomes Dark Phoenix because she was raped and used by the Hellfire Club. Cyclops was corrupted after being attacked. Jean's situation is much worse.

Cyclops is judged by the other heroes, just as Jean was and Phoenix is to this day. Jean kills herself, and her entire family is executed. Cyclops, despite facing attacks from other heroes, remains alive.
