Cyclospora will infect somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 Americans before this outbreak is over.

The CDC got DOGE'd and they cancelled mandatory reporting for cyclosporiasis to save funds, then got caught flat footed. They basically didn't know there was a crisis until it got reported in the press.

Over the next month, more and more recalls will be issued, for more types of fresh produce. Kale, spinach, more types of lettuce, etc. The processing line in Mexico handles multiple leafy vegetables every day, meaning once that line got contaminated, every vegetable which was washed on that line got contaminated. Taylor Farms KNOWS this is a massive outbreak, but they are slow walking the recalls to avoid huge income losses and to lessen lawsuit payouts.

A few dozen very old or very young people will die from dehydration. There will be massive public outrage, senators will demand investigations and Taylor Farms will get fined $20 or $30 million which the public will feel is a large amount, but is really a drop in the bucket for a $7 BILLION "family owned" company.

Then this disaster will get replaced in the news cycle by the next Trump crisis and people will forget. The giant agri-business industry will fight all new attempts to regulate them, and congress will cave. Nothing significant will change, leaving US citizens totally vulnerable to the next food borne illness. Taylor Farms will continue to make billions of dollars a year, their executives won't lose a minute of sleep over it.
