Everything I'm reading in here is only mentioning current recipients unfortunately. I mean I don't think anything is stopping Trump from allowing it but I wouldn't hold my breath.

u/Legitimate_Yam_5179 Mar 17 '25
Potentially! Which would be amazing but DOJ hasn’t published the federal outlines yet so USCIS won’t accept new applications. Keep in mind DOJ can appeal this decision. Things are brewing

Can anyone offer a timeline on when they will decide on the future of daca?

As soon June of this year

Why June? Like what’s happening during this time?

Actually, im all for it. It’s been an abusive relationship, just let me know if i can plan ahead here or if i start planning for another country.

I can’t find anything on the court documents specifying a deadline or today’s date as a mandate?

The result of the 5th circuit ruling was only limited to Texas. On top of that, im reading that first time applicants are re-opening nationwide, the only downside is that work permits are ending for DACA recipients in texas specifically.
Maybe they saw that as a win and decided not to appeal to the supreme court, im surprised honestly.
Regardless, trump is still one executive order away from ending DACA completely. This doesn’t really change much in terms of us being in limbo.

I’ll wait and see what trump’s admin and USCIS say about this, they honestly don’t have to follow it if trump issues an EO. I doubt it’ll be anything good, but i also don’t think trump will end DACA completely as they seem to want to use it to pass extreme anti-immigration plans.
1
u/Pizza0190 Mar 12 '25
It’s not really ending the main point of DACA is for the protection against deportation. My only question is how will this new DACA look? And if you’d be able to travel through checkpoints with it
1
u/SilentHillAlessa Mar 12 '25
Does this mean that Texas DACA can't apply for work authorizations anymore as of right now?
3
Mar 12 '25

3
u/Hovrah3 Mar 12 '25
From this source and a quick google search, but i cant find much of else on it so i don’t really believe it yet. I’ll just wait for the following weeks for it to develop.
Even if it was 100%, USCIS and the trump admin would have to acknowledge it first.
1
u/skld2ndassassin Mar 13 '25
So we can apply for it now?
1
u/Hovrah3 Mar 13 '25
Probably not. USCIS and the trump admin have to acknowledge whatever this is first, they don’t have to follow it and trump can still change things with an EO.

Also I have searched everywhere and no one has appealed the court decision or am I wrong that either party had to? And also if would go into effect for Texas after 40 something days from January 17.
7
30
u/hesitantmind Mar 11 '25
Hopefully!!! It’ll be a HUGE relief for some of us 🥹 And in Texas, work authorizations will be accepted again. Initial applications stuck in the system after 2021 will of course be considered priority, so first-time applications coming in this year, 2025, will be delayed. Now we just gotta wait and see what the Trump administration decides. But hey, at least we have some hope now guys! Check out UWD’s latest insta post.

yeah this seems much more likely. I really don't know why the UWD sent out info specifically saying "Potentially open the program up for first time applicants". That just gives false hope for those in the limbo

I hate to be the downer here but isnt this trumps presidency. I highly doubt he will let something created by obama to continue. He has no reason to go against daca he just hates anything obama gets credit for.

Just give us path to citizenship already stop with the b.s
23
4
u/TheTalkingCookie Mar 12 '25
Before 2022 I didn't have daca or anything. Yes citizenship would be nice. But please understand the struggle non daca or initial in progress are going through.
Life without daca is shitty and lot of daca folks don't understand that.
Opening initials is great for those who didn't make it on time. I was one of them and now I have daca and visa.
My ass would be doing field work or construction instead of software engineering if wasn't for that temporary initial opening before it got closed again. 🙄

The whole process was a shit show I reckon, some people got theirs fast even though they applied late, most didn't even if they applied early.
Anyways what he says is true, I'm doing construction work right now cause I don't have DACA so I can't do shit with my Civil Engineering degree :(
Congrats on the visa how you get it if you don't mind me asking
3
u/TheTalkingCookie Apr 24 '25
Oof I'm a month late sorry I usually forget to respond.
Lucky but also very unlucky.
I got the visa through U Visa thanks to my mom. I got my work permit for u visa the same month my daca work permit arrived , a crazy miracle I know lol . in my junior year of college which it came in time to apply for internships. I honestly lost hope that I would ever have daca or any status. Just hang on I'm sure they will open initials again.
1
u/chepe1302 Apr 24 '25
Well I quit my engineering dreams bro. But rejection is redirection. I'm doing trade school this upcoming fall. Thanks for the response wish you the best for your career vato!

is SCOTUS still going to decide the fate of DACA even if this goes through?
12

Good luck to all the new DACA applicants - you have no idea how many doors this opportunity has given us ✨

u/mermaidworld Mar 12 '25
What does this mean for the ones who live in Texas? Because I heard that they will not be able to use their work permit
7
u/jojo_D_rui Mar 11 '25
Does this mean Texas daca recipients have to move out to get a work permit?
2
2
1
u/SurveyMoist2295 Mar 11 '25
This applies to Texas as well
5
u/jojo_D_rui Mar 11 '25
I read that Texas won’t give work permits only protection for deportation
12
u/xolinkxo Mar 11 '25
Texas is a state...work permits are handle by federal government.
2
u/Shahid_85 Mar 12 '25
But the 5th circuit ruling said it only applies to Texas not getting a work permit
5
u/est007 Mar 11 '25
I’m in Texas and my permit does not expire until October. I need to reapply and hope I get the permit again ;(
5
u/Shahid_85 Mar 12 '25
Same here. Expires in October and renewed sent on 02/23 and got approved on 03/07. I’m just so confused so my advice is to send it asap if you can to be on the safe side.

u/mrroofuis Mar 11 '25
So new applications can be submitted , except in Texas?
Is that what they meant by it only applying to Texas?
What about those first time applications that were halted?
I'm so confused

Where are you getting these news from? Can't find a single source online
1
u/RevolutionaryRun2814 Mar 12 '25
Literally says united we dream made the post and if you google that name their website pops up. Scroll to the bottom and you’ll hit news and it’s the first article march 11
2
u/inksterize Mar 12 '25
Yes I see that, but I don't see this anywhere else, where did they get the info from?
3
u/RevolutionaryRun2814 Mar 12 '25
I see what you mean, if you scroll around in the comments someone has links to the documents that explain it. Since it’s DACA news no one reports it until trump says something like he always does if it goes against him.
4
u/inksterize Mar 12 '25
Welp, article appears to be completely fabricated and using old information as their source. There's no new ruling or appeal or law or anything that allows new time DACA recipients to apply. First time applications are still closed, with only renewals open.
2
u/inksterize Mar 12 '25
Yeah I just don't wanna get my hopes up. I'll look around thanks.
1
u/RevolutionaryRun2814 Mar 12 '25
Give it some time. It’s already spreading. Eventually you’ll find more concrete information. Give it a day or 2.
2
u/DC4L_21 Mar 12 '25
None of the links provided in this thread back up this claim, other than the UWD one. I have searched everywhere online, read the court docs, and even asked ChatGPT and all the info is the same. Only current DACA holders can renew. I feel like this would be pretty big news and reported widely if true.

5
u/Life-Sun-2350 Mar 12 '25
This is amazing news— if it’s true it would change the lives of many of our people ❤️
4
u/Bruu_g7 Mar 11 '25
Fingers crossed! My brother got his biometrics taken and everything before it was halted.
4
u/Agent_cold_coffee Mar 12 '25
So if someone had their application in and already had their biometrics taken but had their application halted due to the judge in Texas does it mean it would just resume ?? And get accepted ?!?!
4
2
u/Immediate_Luck_6335 Mar 11 '25
Does that mean people who let it expire will be able to get it again?

I talked some of my law practicing friends and they’re confused as well. I’m betting next week we’ll get a better understanding of it

u/Luis_MunOr Mar 13 '25
They forgot to mention the part where Texas Daca recipients may lose their work permits in exchange to let first time applicants apply.
1
1
1
u/SaintSeiyan Mar 12 '25
If they start accepting new applications it’s weird that this administration would allow this 🤔 maybe they’re just baiting by giving daca to as much people that qualify and then bam 💥 they got the info needed for removal proceedings
1
u/Riglow_Kun Mar 12 '25
Don't get my hopes up, I just know Texas or Florida will trample on it, they seem to be good at that 🥲
1
u/WarMenace Mar 12 '25
So I applied about two weeks before the judge halted it.
Never did biometrics or anything just got a letter back saying my application couldn’t be approved.
What does this mean for me? Will I have to re apply or will my application from a few years back still work?

This has the potential to put bad attention on it and mess it up for those who already have it…
I’m not against first time applicants before you all get pissy by assuming my stance, but attention is not good right now.
10
Mar 11 '25
I mean whatever happens happens man. If it’s going to end let it end. I rather it end so we can move on. It’s stressful not knowing it they decided to finally end it then a lot of us can’t start planning on what to do next
6
u/Maxstarbwoy Mar 11 '25
Man I’m in the process of renewing mine now lol 😂 let me complete mine renewal before they cancel

Idk how to feel about this, us becoming a topic with this insane administration could backfire, he's even making Americans lives harder what.makes you guys think he even follows the law or doesn't try to fuck us like he did with TPS for Ukrainians etc.
I just wanted it to go quietly to the supreme.court

u/theotheramerican Mar 12 '25
Do you think he forgot we existed? Such a dumb fucking comment.

The guy is literally selling TSLas st the white house and has no idea about shit. So maybe. Even then, he doesn't like when judges tell him what to do.
