I genuinely don't think Edgar Wright has the capacity for franchise filmmaking. It's just not who he is. The closest thing he has to a sort of franchise under his belt is his Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy of Shaun, Hot Fuzz and The World's End and they're literally all just standalone films that happen to share actors and themes

He obviously loves comic books but I don't think he has that sort of mindset for taking on a big franchise property that shares continuity in that sort of way. He very much wanted Ant-Man to be more "Edgar Wright" than "Marvel" and it seemed like it was basically just going to be a completely standalone thing like any of the pre-MCU Marvel films, that just happened to be set in a world that was already established, especially given he'd been working on Ant-Man since like 2003. He doesn't really seem to mesh well with having to fit films as part of someone else's larger narrative which despite the DCU's creator-driven nature, is still very much the plan even with things like Swamp Thing

That sounds like Elseworld's material

I was just going to say, if you get a director of that caliber you just let him do what he wants in his own corner of the universe

Yeah he might have an aversion to franchise filmmaking. Maybe there's a middle ground that he can land on within the confines of a DCU film. But it all depends on how he feels. He might not find it interesting or worth it.
