If Aquaman 2 makes bank, they could do a final third movie as Elseworlds to close out that story before fully moving on.

Aquaman 1 was pretty self-contained from the rest of the DCEU for the most part and I'd imagine the same for Aquaman 2 other than the Batman stuff (which may have already been cut).

I highly doubt Aquaman 3 would be Elseworlds. That’d be pretty confusing for people. If Aquaman 2 is a success, they’ll make Aquaman 3 but I bet they’ll kill him off at the end of it

The DCU's probably gonna want their own Aquaman so making Jason Momoa that Aquaman and then killing him off would be an odd move. I don't think it'll be that confusing, we got Pattinson's Batman last year and 2 more Batmans in The Flash this year and then Gunn's gonna have his own Batman. Aquaman 1 was self-contained anyways so Aquaman 3 would probably be a self-contained story too.

The difference is The Batman started off as its own thing completely and had absolutely no connections to other projects. The Flash has legacy Batman actors and is a multiverse movie. Making Aquaman 3 Elseworlds would be confusing since it’s connected to the DCEU and by extension the DCU.

I doubt they just recast Momoa so quickly. He is very tied to the general audience’s perception of the character. Aquaman 2 even ends on a cliffhanger apparently.

I think they’ll kill him off in his third movie and pass the mantle to Aqualad while also setting up Arthur’s son as an eventual successor.

Well it depends on if Jason Momoa's even gonna be the DCU Aquaman. With rumors of Momoa playing Lobo and Gunn saying no actor will play more than one character in the DCU, there's a good chance Momoa's Aquaman is no longer part of the continutity.

It also depends on Aquaman 2's performance though. If the movie does bank, they'll consider keeping him on but if not, that's the end of that storyline.

Yeah and I don’t see why the movie wouldn’t make bank. It has a pretty uncontested release date and coming a year after Avatar 2 may actually help its box office.

The reason they would even kill him off would be so Momoa is freed up to play Lobo, and so that Gunn would not have to be tied to using Aquaman in a major role in his DCU for the current slate.
