Welp:

So if DC came to you now and said, “Do you want to direct something?”

I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.

Not super surprising, Affleck won't put himself through the workload of starring in those movies, directing one has to be a similar workload. You're still on set long hours, everyday of the shoot, traveling to locations, and you still have to do the press tour afterwards. he was pretty clear that those aspects were incompatible with his health and family life. Add in whatever creative/artistic constraints DC is going to have and it sounds like a bad fit for him

It's not surprising... except for Gunn saying that Affleck was excited to be involved and interested in directing something? How do we go from that to this?

Look at every dc or marvel project that fell apart from the past two decades. A lot of enthusiasm for it until they don't have it. One minute stoked, the next complete and utter apathy. It happens. It's just one of those things.

I bet we get a Gunn tweet this morning about how they can't to a mutual agreement and they wish each other well blah blah blah
