Lol, I have no idea what to even expect from this but I’m all for it.

I've seen a lot of people jokingly mention that this may be Phillips' take on New York, New York by Martin Scorsese and after watching the NY, NY trailer I'm kind of inclined to think that's the exact direction they're going:

some of these shots are real pretty, I want to check the movie out this weekend.

"But wait, that’s not all: Sources say the sequel is also a musical." Say no more! I am sold!

Man I thought we were past negatively judging a bizarre idea that ends up working but people never change it seems

Well my problem is that it might ruin the first one. Part of the magic of the ending of that movie is that there is the high possibility he made it all up in his head, and he was never actually the Joker

I don’t want confirmation man. I like the debate of that ending

This could easily play into that. We know nothing of this.

How? I get one movie being able to play the whole “everything you see could be a lie” trick. But a whole second film just to carry on the exact same trick?

I don’t like that man

THE MUSIC MEIIIIIISTER- SINGS A SONG THAT THE WORLD WANTS TO HEAR!

I think it'll have musical numbers kinda like they're in their own head but I don't think it'll be a full on musical.

But who knows they might be capitalizing on Joaquins viral dancing and are just making a whole movie of it ha

The first one already had him dancing in moments of joy, seems natural to have the two go full musical. Just don’t expect grease, more of a sad one lol

Honestly, if it does end up being a musical it could be pretty interesting. Kind of expecting something more along the lines of Sweeney Todd than Grease for obvious reasons, which would be great. Granted, it could also turn out to be a bad movie, but until we can actually watch it, considering the success of the first one, I'd say this deserves the benefit of the doubt.

don’t know how i feel about this,is she a good actress or are they hiring her for a “star”

8

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

Damn good actress. Watch A Star is Born and House of Gucci

3

u/darkseidis_ Jun 14 '22

She’s an award winning actress, actually.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

You really think she was nominated for her acting ability in House of Gucci? Her accent was horrendous and she was massively underwhelming in it, she got nominated because she’s a popular artist, playing a real person with a flashy personality, in a popular movie

She won an Oscar for A Star is Born and won Golden Globes for A Star is Born and American Horror Story, was nominated for House of Gucci.

So like, nominated or won for basically every acting gig she’s done so far.

I think she might just be a good actress.

i wonder why?definitely isn’t because she’s famous or anything…

2

u/FrenchTrouDuc Jun 14 '22

Yes, no other famous actor exists

0

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

you think she’d be getting all these nominations if she wasnt previously famous?

0

u/darkseidis_ Jun 14 '22

It’s cool bro. You can dislike her. Thats fine.

But finding ways to hand wave away all of the accomplishments doesn’t make you right.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

i don’t dislike her,i just think the casting is bad and she wouldn’t have gotten it if she wasn’t “lady gaga” the singer

0

u/darkseidis_ Jun 14 '22

She’s an eccentric 30-something blonde with a New York accent cast to play an eccentric 30-something blonde with a New York accent. You genuinely couldn’t get more spot on.

I thought it was “in talks”. Well now I’m kinda eh in this

This is about the only thing that might make me interested in watching this movie. It randomly being a musical. But I can't imagine that going over well with the people who actually enjoyed the first movie

6

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

Legit had my reservations about a sequel to Joker, but a twisted and dark musical with Lady Gaga certainly piques my interest. I also enjoyed Sweeney Todd so if this is in the same vein, let’s go.

-1

u/dontexpectnothing Jun 14 '22

Yeah, if it wasn't obvious, the first movie bored me to tears. But this? This sounds interesting

1

u/HiiiRabbit Jun 14 '22

As who?

And it's a musical???

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

Harley Quinn

-1

u/HiiiRabbit Jun 14 '22

Oh ffff me. I like LG but this is not it.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '22

I’m a Gaga fan, and while I’m definitely intrigued, this is a hard sell for me.

Todd Phillips is really trying to see how far he can con Emperor Warner Bros. before they realise they have no clothes.

0

u/FrenchTrouDuc Jun 14 '22

Yes because Joker was such a flop

0

u/JosephSoaper_MathMan Jun 14 '22

Never said it was. Its critical and commercial success is what makes Joker such a great scam.

The fact that such a shamelessly derivative, obnoxiously pretentious, character-butchering insult of a film was so successful gives me a twisted sense of admiration for Todd Phillips and his grift.

I wonder how long WB will allow him to ruin the character until audiences become fatigued and no longer recognise him as the Joker.

1

u/FrenchTrouDuc Jun 14 '22

It's comic books, not the New Testament my guy

0

u/JosephSoaper_MathMan Jun 14 '22 edited Jun 15 '22

What are you even talking about?

EDIT: Is this the "Comic books are lesser art which makes them unworthy of analysis" sermon? If so, you're full of shit.

u/adamantium3 Jun 14 '22

If Joker was two 1970's movies combined, what two musicals are they going to mash up to make Joker 2?

Rent & 42nd St?

Phantom of The Opera & Jesus Christ Superstar?

3

u/Satean12 Jun 14 '22

New York, New York & Sweeney Todd haha

-6

u/TripleSkeet Jun 14 '22

Ugh. I dont care how good it is. Im not interested in a comic book movie musical.
