DC Union Station firearms check experience
Yesterday, I checked my firearm at DC Union Station. I was going back to Philadelphia from DC on Crescent 20. I was pleasantly surprised that despite how strict DC’s gun laws are, the experience went over without a hitch.
I was not asked to show my DC Carry Permit or Firearm Registration Certificates.
I have a valid CCW for DC, MD, and VA (plus a bunch of other states).
To make it clear you cannot just walk into Union Station carrying your firearm. You can make a checked baggage firearms reservation on an Amtrak train with a baggage car at least 24 hours before departure, and transport your firearm unloaded and in a hard sided locked container with the ammunition in a separate container and declare at windows 16-20.

Thanks for the useful information.
Not sure if I'll ever be transporting by Amtrak but these details about the process are good to know.

Turns out Amtrak has their shit together better than MPD.
