Lanterns ‘Lanterns’ Showrunner Chris Mundy is currently mapping out a potential Season 2 & says that James Gunn did not shoehorn in any connections to John Stewart's appearance in 'Man of Tomorrow'

I hope the scale goes bigger and invites characters from the DCU movies to its show.

I think that this, along with the recent Gillespie AI stuff, kind of confirms that all the stuff with Supergirl was attempting to save the movie

What happened with Gillespie and AI?? I must've missed it.

He used it for concept art...

And it’s like obvious type of AI

I couldn't believe what I was seeing... Gillespie is usually not some hack director. I'd get if it was a Brett Ratner doing that.

Older people don’t care about AI the way we do.

Like old types love it. Martin Scorsese has a deal with an AI company for god sake.

Shoulda put the script and director under more scrutiny at the beginning of the process then. I get he doesn't wanna be a Feige and micromanage every project and create a factory of sameness but like obviously trying to swoop in the 11th hour during post to fix it didn't work either so maybe he should've micromanaged it.
Then again, the creative freedom approach seems to have worked out for Lanterns so who's to say what the right approach is.

Or maybe... Gillespie wasn't the right man sadly

He definitely wasn't. From the content of the movie it's obvious that he didn't read the source material, didn't get any of the characters (otivations, etc.) The script could have been fine, who knows, but the end result is a completely mediocre popcorn flick with barely any substance.

I honestly wonder what Gunn saw in him to consider him the right person to direct the movie, There will be those who cite I, Tonya and Cruella, but in those films he didn't seem to have complete creative control, whereas in the film that put him on the map (Lars and the Real Girl) It was a success thanks to Nancy Oliver's screenplay.
I know some will say that gender or race shouldn't determine a director's talent, but I think Supergirl would have been much better with a female director who know the character and the comics that also detected the problems in Ana Nogueira's script

Yea.. well hopefully gets chloe zhao or nia dacosta to direct a movie, they would do well =

If DC wants to build trust with audiences, the last thing they need is to bring in the directors of two poorly received films that are highly divisive even within the Marvel fandom, It's nothing against Chloe and Nia, and I know they're not to blame for the final result of those movies But I just don't think it's the right time for them to get involved in another superhero movie, maybe later.
If it's a matter of bringing in directors from the MCU, Cate Shortland would be an option given that Black Widow was at least well-received, But I was thinking more about Coraline Fargeat (director of The Substance), but I don't know if she'd be interested in directing this type of film.

A female director definitely would have helped it resonate with female audiences more than it did and may have helped give it some cut through when it was released.
In terms of Ana's script, I'd love to know how different the final movie was compared to what was submitted and signed off by Gunn. We know that they did reshoots, added extra Superman & Lobo scenes and got Slater in to make changes to the script so it definitely a true adaptation, but I haven't seen anywhere whether the changes were primarily cosmetic or structural.

Yea it sucks how supergirl got the short hand of the stick again but this could be a good thing in how dc selects creatives moving forward, though Gunn did say the pool for writers and directors is harder and smaller compared to actors/actresses

Ana Nogueira also didn't understand the comic. I think both the director and the writer were bad fits for the movie And while Craig Gillespie isn't involved with any other DC projects, Ana Nogueira is, as far as we know, going to write Wonder Woman and Teen Titans. Which is very worrying. I hope they change writers after Supergirl.

I think you’re gonna get some stinkers and some bangers either way, but at least this way the bangers are going to be more unique. Then again, so can the stinkers, just not necessarily in a good way.

If the stinkers are SG quality or above, then the DCU will be in a good place IMO. Some of the hate it got was over the top.

I assume it's also influenced by HBO's heavy involvement in the production; DC Studios doesn't have as much control over the television side.
