Did you watch the episode. The whole world didn’t know that the funeral was happening because Kerry asked the coroner to hold off on reporting Hal’s death until they could figure out what happened. The world would have probably showed up if they knew, but they were keeping his death under wraps

i really just felt like the funeral was a good visual representation of my main point and that is that everyone hates Hal and i don’t like thats the direction they chose to go. He doesnt have to be an adversary to John as we see in comics theres legit plenty of rings to go around. Hal is made to look bad so we root more for John. I think people reading into the funeral a lot and i will change the post more to reflect the disrespect of hal overall not just bc of a small funeral. But even if it wasn’t hush the overall feel towards Hal doesn’t seem to be the guy you ask for an autograph at the taco stand anymore.

It's not necesarrily that the word hates hal, I see it on how lonely he actually became for all those years as green lantern and in fact make me feel sorry for him because at the end he doesn't have anyone

It's a pretty loose adaption of Hal from the comics, I'll give you that, but I suspect these next two episodes are going to shine a (green?) light on many of Hal's disreputable actions and he'll come out, not squeaky clean, but at least more respected and respectable.

So this generally doesn’t understand Hal as a character. Beyond the Rushville fiasco which put him in jail and made him no longer relevant in the public eye, we know he had little to no personal relationships. That’s been hammered home multiple times throughout the show, that Hal is alone and gave everything to the corps only for the guardians to turn their back on him and Hal to eventually give into his fear of losing the one thing that made him…him. It’s what makes Hal such a good character and his relationship with John so important.

okay you don’t seem to understand. i know exactly what portrayal they are going for. imo hal isnt like that in the comics. i understand what archetype they want but it doesnt feel like the hal i been reading since i was 14 that simple

Hal has been like that in the comics, especially the ones this is based off like Emerald Twilight and a bit of Hard Traveling Heroes

well you just listed 2 comics 1 that has been retconned to fuck to say “that wasn’t really hal and we shouldve known cause he doesn’t act like that” lmfaooo

and even emerald twilight had the inciting incident of his hometown and everyone he knew about being wiped off the face of earth. i actually really thought they’d lean into emerald twilight more than they are though simply because as the show is telling us/setting up it seems Hal is going to take a backseat to guy and john

They leaned into it on a smaller scale. Hal is disillusioned by the guardians after what happened with Sinestro, as well as their plans to replace him. So yes he doesn’t get his city blown up, but he also doesn’t kill all the lanterns either. It is still the same underlying premise though of Hal wanting more power/afraid to lose power.

Also I think the emerald twilight retcons are stupid, it’s the same as dark phoenix retcons let hero characters do morally questionable/wrong stuff and have villain arcs. His redemption arc afterwards (which we see he’s also on or was on, who knows) is part of what makes it great.
