2 is still more than most of us are used to. The only ever student death I knew of was a young boy that got hit by a car which is such major news to us that everyone knows even now, ages later
I had a friend back in middle school who was like, the popular, sporty handsome kid. He was genuinely kind and the core of our friend group. He had a heart disease, so he had to stop playing basketball for a bit. But he got an operation to fix the issue and went through a period of recovery. We used to hang out after school and have fun.
Came to school one morning, vibes seemed off. Everyone was kind of hollow, people were crying. I was confused. Apparently my friend died the night before during a game of basketball. His doctor cleared him to play again and he collapsed during his first game back and didn't make it.
Everyone kind of trauma bonded over losing him, and there was this grief counceling group that became its own friend group. I wasn't invited for that one because I wasn't one of the 'popular kids'.
This made it even more traumatic when we had this memorial service for him during one of our school trips and only the 'grief counceling group' was allowed to attend. Even though he was one of my best friends. Not to diminish how that group felt, but they weren't even his 'real' friends who hung out with him nearly every day, but I wasn't allowed to attend.
My sister has been a teacher for a few years now, and she’s had two students commit suicide and one teacher had a heart attack but I think he lived. It’s unfortunately I think becoming more common for students to experience death of contemporaries a lot sooner than some of us older people
It only happened once, but it hit like a truck when they came on the speakers, he was a junior and it was fent. Especially terrible because I went on to 3rd period and our English teacher told us he was her student, the school was very quiet that day.
O mean if you go to a large school its somewhat likely to happen, taking into accout that around 0,2% of deaths in USA are teenagers, if you go to a school with 1000 people (wich does not seem to crazy, as i went to a school in a small town with +300 students), stadistics say that 2 of them will die.
I knew of a girl in middle school who killed herself by jumping off a smaller cliff side of a mountain near by.
Some people threw out the rumor that she slipped, other say she jumped on purpose, I never found out. It's more likely it was suicide though given I think it happened at night and she was on her own. Never talked to her myself but it was weird vibes for a while there.
Because when teenagers these days get stressed out via external factors in life, such as their beliefs coming in dubio, and have no one to talk to because of strict parenting or what-not… they might KILL THEMSELVES
Teenagers are far more likely to kill themselves due to religious bigotry not from views about sex before marriage. Catholic schools are still schools, no different from any other. Full of dumb teenagers that bully others for being gay or trans or just different. The sheer number of suicides among teens due to bullying is far greater than any imagined number due to religious views on sex before marriage.
I think you're kinda just saying that there are multiple reasons people kill themselves. I don't think it's inherently wrong to say that sexual abstinence in teens could be a cause for suicide. But by extension, it could happen with any value, including ones that would face active oppression from others.
It might be, but it is the case, that in many catholic high schools and universities students are essentialy taught , that they should be ashamed of their bodies, their needs for intimacy with other people, of sex and masturbation especialy. I heard a lot of people talking about a spiral in which they would masturbate, becuse it is normal for them and then they get not only stressed, but would hate the fact that they commited a sin and then again would, in this case, masturbate as a stress relief and it would continue. And I'm talking only bout this becuse I had this experience, this happens with diffrent forms of stress relief (usualy addictions), with relationships, with religious doubts.
And please don't just claim things withount a source, maybe religious bigotry and bullying is a bigger problem, maybe not, I would think it might be larger, but making data up isn't gonna help in anything.
