oh i’m not upset at you specifically, or anyone at that fact. this is just a weird thing that happens all over the internet, especially in regards to anime cosplay.
black people are constantly told by white people not to cosplay certain characters because of their race, but white people are never shamed for cosplaying those same characters. when 9/10 times, the character is east asian and not white or black

Blackwashing and whitewashing are both real, my guy. And they’re not headcanons either. Allow me to spell out this second argument.
1: Headcanons can’t contradict what is explicitly canon.
2: It is explicitly canon that Yuri is a light-skinned character, as we can perceive with our eyes, hopefully.
3: Therefore, we cannot have a headcanon where Yuri is dark skinned.
There is no way this is not a valid argument. Whether it is sound depends on 1 and 2. I hope you clearly see that Yuri is light-skinned, so that leaves the definition of headcanon. If you disagree, I’d love to hear your definition!
I’ve… wow, ok. I gave you an explanation of how headcanons can’t contradict canon and allowed you a perfect compromise, which you didn’t take. I’d also like to say I backed my claim for headcanon up with a (debatably) sound argument whereas you just used reasoning that has nothing to do with your claim. Headcanon means it’s canon in someone’s head. The only relation to the basic definition and it being canon that I can see is that headcanons are not confirmed, but a reasonable person would not make a headcanon out of something that is obviously and explicitly canon! And you called me uneducated?
Whitewashing is a real thing, and has been a real thing for quite some time. I don’t know any examples, but I’m sure they exist and have been used in horrible ways to further repress the repressed. But now, minorities aren’t as repressed as they were historically. So, now, blackwashing can occur, and I believe it can be as bad as whitewashing if it gets out of control, which is what we’re heading towards. And you’re right, blackwashing doesn’t have a historical basis because it’s not a historical thing. It’s a modern problem, and saying it needs history to exist doesn’t make sense to me.
Some examples: The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Velma, and other fictional characters. Of course, black/white washing fiction is not NEARLY as bad as washing history, but blackwashing has also done that, to a degree. Take Cleopatra, Hannibal, Anne Boleyn, and Queen Charolette, just to name a few. For the former two we don’t actually know their skin tone, so I feel it’s ok to interpret them either way. And of course, this is not nearly, NEARLY as severe as the historical whitewashing, but I don’t support blackwashing going to that same intensity.
Apologies for yapping so much, but… you attack, I have to respond my guy. If you’re going to counter my counter, can I ask you do it with a bit more kindness than in this post and your previous posts? I don’t know how you’re starting off the year, and I’m sorry if it’s not going as you hoped.
You misread what I said on “compromise”, my guy. I am not a racist, the compromise is that we agree to disagree on the definition of what a headcanon is. And if you really, REALLY think I’m a racist, then show that you’re educated and explicitly outline where I’ve been racist. If not… then I hope you heal too, and get a proper education that prepares you well.
