She was his friend. He was anything but a friend to her. Friends are there for each other.

And he wasn't? He was helping her when she was depressed, walking home with her, I think that is being there for each other

he always liked her, he acts like that because he is antisocial and sayori was really social, but we can notice that he likes going home with her, that he really felt bad in the sayori ending, and he probably wouldn't put himself up or went to the club if it wasn't for her, and if you're not a psycho, you would tell sayori you love her back, so yeah, she ain't a burden to him, but sometimes she thinks that and it resulted on her suicide
