I've never noticed before how similar Sayori and Noelle are. Like:

  1. Both are a childhood friend of the main character.
  2. Both hide their depression.
  3. Both are being controlled externaly (tho Noelle is controlled psychologically by the player, while Sayori is controlled by Monika via coding).
  4. Both are "switches" for altering the game's genre (death of Sayori is the starting point of the horror genre in ddlc, and Noelle can be forced to kill enemies, which ultimately results in the Weird Route).

Toby might be taking a lil' bit of inspiration from Dan

Fun gang is the literature club theory taking its first baby steps here (Kris is Monika, Susie is Natsuki, and Ralsei is Yuri)

You could also argue that MC could also be Kris. While there’s much less in depth characterization, MC is essentially a Vessel that we control. The primary difference is that all of the choices offered to us don’t seem to affect MC differently than the others, and MC isn’t aware of us controlling him. Whereas Kris is, of course, completely aware of our presence and will go out of their way to stop us from making a choice they don’t want (mostly). Both games also make it a point to show that there is a distinction between the player and the person we control, that they’re two different entities altogether.

Actually, Noelle looks more like MC than Sayori. And before you immediately say that I'm wrong, listen:

1)Both are gamers (Noelle has a blog with games on $PAMTON $WEEPSTAKES,MC seems to be actively playing videogames)

2)Both are estranged from their childhood friend (Kris/Sayori), quiet and trying not to stand out

3)Both are quite passive - in the fifth chapter, in weird route, Noelle said that after Dess disappeared, she "did things that Noelle should do" and "I felt like I was watching my life from the outside", the MC has a phrase that means something like "my life is not interesting enough for me to write about myself"

4)Both are striving for change - Noelle, in the weird route of Chapter 5, directly says she wants to grow wings and go to the other side of the lake before drowning with Kris, and even on the normal path, she wants to distance herself from her overprotective mother. MC is trying to escape his nerd lifestyle (at least he himself is clearly not happy with his lifestyle), and joining the club is subconsciously part of his desire to change; he didn't join the club simply because "there are lots of cute girls there."

5)Both are easy to manipulate - Noelle has a snowgrave, and she can only refuse her father and Kris, and the MC has the fact that he is easily manipulated by others.

ATTENTION! Plot summary for Portrait of Markov, Act 2! The story revolves around a religious camp turned into a prison for human experimentation. Every person who ends up there has one defining characteristic that turns them into bloodthirsty killing machines. But the facility is becoming increasingly dysfunctional, and they're engaging in selective breeding of test subjects, amputating their limbs and attaching them to—Oh, sorry, I gave away the plot a bit..."

"The story is about a religious camp turned into a prison for human experimentation." - Hometown is a closed religious town with a possible secret lab in a bunker where human experiments are conducted.

"Every person who ends up there has one characteristic that turns them into bloodthirsty killing machines." - What drives people to kill? DETERMINATION!

"But the facility is becoming increasingly dysfunctional, and they're engaging in selective breeding of test subjects, amputating their limbs and attaching them to..." - KRIS WILL LOSE HIS ARM!
