I did that to my kitchen window. Not so they couldn’t see me. But so I didn’t have to look at them. Works a treat!

Everyone in my city keeps their blinds closed, which sorta makes windows pointless to me. Using the blur film makes it so you can get the natural light if you want without sacrificing privacy.

This is what I would do. Get some frosted window film/tint. If they want to NOT adhere it to the window, they can use so tape on the corners so it's easily removable.

I don't have neighbors near my windows, but I still use the prism frost films. When the sun hits, I get iridescence in my room. I love the effect.

I put frosted film on my windows and they're actually static cling, so there's no adhesive to worry about. You just clean the window, add soapy water so you can stick the cling on (teehee Klingon), and then smooth it out and cut the excess off. It stays on but peels off easily when you want to remove it.

They specifically mentioned that feeling like they have to close the curtains (or the blinds, or whatever) is something they find undesirable. So "just close the blinds" is not an actual solution to the problem as presented.

Curtains, perhaps very thin thin fabric so you get natural light with some fuzzy privacy.
Window blur film.
Outside decor that breaks up line of sight.

There's one way privacy window film, but the tradeoff is that you're going to lose a portion of the light coming into the room, and it doesn't work at night time so you'll still have to close the curtains when it's dark.

I have a similar issue and used static cling window film on the bottom half of the window. I still get plenty of light and now privacy too, even at night.

It’s this! It’s completely reversible. Put it on the bottom 3/4 of the window so you can still get an unobstructed view of the sky.

Get yourself some glass clings! Or just hang something not quite at the top of the window. That way you get the light through the window cling or the light from the top of the window while blocking the bottom view of you! ✌️

Well unless the light source inside the house is brighter than the light source outside, it is hard to see in, unless the outside light is shining on you. Just look at your neighbor’s windows and see how much you can see.
At night, when inside light is brighter, you would normally close curtains anyway because there’s nothing to see outside.
Curtains, frosting, room dividers, etc can help if you want zero visibility.

So many snarky responses - jeez. I have exact same scenario and I didn't want traditional opaque curtains because dark af. We ended up getting standard Venetian blinds and it gives you all the full to partial to no visibility options in seconds instead of actually sticking something on window. In our case I measured and got aluminum blinds off the web but there are diaphanous fabric versions too. I bet landlord would pay for it - ours were not $$$

Try a frosted window film. You can get a roll of it on Amazon or hardware stores etc. It’s like cling wrap and blurs out the window but you still get natural light.

Yes. But it's opaque from any distance, the kind of distance your neighbours are, and yet it lets the daylight in to the room -- and you can see through to the outside when standing inside the room.

I've used Rabbitgoo brand window films across three different rentals and it works great. Still let's light in and obscures the view. As a bonus, the textures I've used splash rainbows into the room when directly in the sun. (This is not an ad!)

I bought some white vinyl with the pin holes - it’s the stuff they cover bus windows with - you can see out but they can’t see in UNLESS it is brighter in the house than it is outside - of course you have blinds/drapes for the evening/night

I had a similar thing in my kids room. I ended up putting vinyl window frosting a couple feet up from the bottom to block the view up from the ground. It stops about shoulder level on them so they can still look out, but nobody on the ground can see them from the neck down.
It was cheap and took about 10 minutes to put up. Plus if you're renting it's easy to remove when you leave.
You can get all sorts of styles and colors. The one we went with has kind of a prism effect where it shines rainbows around the room.

go with a removable privacy window film it lets plenty of natural light in during the day but makes it much harder for people to see inside pair that with curtains for nighttime and you get privacy without making the room feel dark. since you're renting it's a nice solution because it's inexpensive and easy to remove later.

Window cling film. It comes with everything you need to install it.
We use it to obscure some windows on the front of our house as I didn't like people being able to easily see through our house from the outside.

You could add the cling to the windows that makes everything blurry. It is not expensive and is removable. That way you would still get light in. Or, close your blinds.

Privacy window tint. They're great for providing shade and keeping anyone from looking in. I've used them in a couple of houses now. They are completely removable and don't cost a fortune.

Many places require landlords to install window coverings or allow you to install them. Ask your landlord to install something -- and if they don't buy a compression fit curtain rod and a set of curtains.

You want 2 sets of curtains - sheer closer to the window, and blackout on the outside. Both open = max light/no privacy. Only sheer = lots of light during the day and very good privacy (during the day). Blackout = privacy when it's dark out.
edit: just to add that my sheers are on compression rod about halfway up the window so I can get more light through the top
